FingerFud
Hey guys. I noticed that the strap button at the bottom of my guitar had came loose. When I tried tightening it, it just wouldn't so I took the button and the screw out and as I did that, alot of sawdust came out. I tried using a longer screw, but nothing! It came to the point where I didn't even need the screwdriver and I could just push the screw in. How do I fix this? Its my favourite and best guitar I've ever had! Crowella
I had a bass that happened to. What I did sounds nasty but no one will ever tell. Get a toothpick. Snap it in half or a bit smaller so you have two bits with two points. Use a little bit of wood glue if you want to (you can get away without glue sometimes) and carefully place the toothpick bits in the hole. Ttry screwing the screw in again. Solved. Lexical_Whale
Similar to the above I went for a matchstick and superglue approach years ago and it's been fine since. Trying a larger or longer screw is probably just going to cause more problems than it solves.
FingerFud
Thanks alot guys. The toothpick trick works. I snapped it in half and just put both ends in. It doesn't tighten fully but it'll do for now. Thanks alot for the help guys!!

Mobius
I wonder what would happen if you went all industrial and used a raw plug one it?
matthijs
If you want a more lasting solution, mix wood glue with sawdust, fill the hole with that, and then twist the screw in. It will be a very solid solution but it takes a decent amount of time to dry.
Phill
fill it with super glue even. that said, once i've done the match stick trick i've never had further problems anyway.
