Well if you think "outdated nationalism and a vague fear of big government" are the only reasons why some people voted or would vote Brexit then I humbly believe that's missing the point. And because some jackasses use wrong arguments shoudln't disqualify the cause. Ahh, getting all political on the future gigs thread. There isn't much to talk about, is there?

Eh, if Reapers isn't heavy then Muse really have few heavy songs. Muse have always been diverse, so I don't think it it realistic to expect them to stick to one genre. There's always going to be outliers, even if they put out a more focused album. In that sense I think they did make a heavier, rock-oriented album, because its backbone is heavier than the last few LPs. As for Matt voting for Brexit, that's only consistent with his past claims in favour of decentralisation, I am not surprised.

Yeah well, TOADA is guitar-driven but not particularly heavy, but Defector's guitar and bass tracks are definitely heavy to my ears, at least by Muse's standards. As for TG I can amend my statement to "one of the heaviest sections Muse have ever done", the point still stands.

Mmmmh. Psycho, Reapers, The Handler and Defector are undisputable heavy tracks. The Globalist has the heaviest section they've ever done, and even Revolt is driven by loud guitar riffs. Mercy is obviously Starlight-like but apart from that there isn't much to support that claim.

I think most of us went through that experience of disregarding the softer songs at first and rediscovering them much later.

Personnaly I think TH's solo lasts long enough to become cool again after the first effect fades away. It transforms into a different impression. It reminds me of an endless staircase kind of thing which I like.

I think the "could be wrong" bit sounds cool, so that the chorus is a bit underwhelming in comparison. It's a nice build-up.

I like it but the verse are a bit weak and his delivery is grating me here and there ("my eyes"). Absolutely love the solos, though. Just wish he'd play some guitar in the verses.

Resistance. It's weird but whenever I wasn't listening to it I'd see it as meh, then every time it came on I'd enjoy it and think "hey it's not that bad at all" and as soon as it ended, would return to the previous meh phase. Recently I've come to terms with my liking for it. Can't deny that bass (and the drums, and the atmosphere, and that catchy pre-chorus).

Yeah well I don't know, it seems obvious to me that the person who speaks in the song is completely out of his/her mind and shouting shit. And that's interesting imo because as a listener you get a glimpse of that insanity for one moment. Trying to feel it, to understand it without approving of it or forgiving it. We don't even know the story behind it. I guess I've simply never felt like the song was trying to inspire me some sympathy towards the narrator or the idea that the other person was at fault. I comprehend that being a guy makes it easier for me to interpret in an inoffensive way, though.

I know what you guys mean about that Dead Star line but in the very specific context of the song it does not bother me. Dead Star is violent and about exploring extreme feelings and reactions, which can be outrageous, politically incorrect and, to call things by their name, sexist in this case. Diving into the mindset of someone who's having such reactions (be it because they are genuinely sexist or because they're having an exceptionnal fit) does not mean you endorse those reactions and is a totally legit experience imo. Now the cringey lines are another story.

I think Prague's alright but I'll admit that I don't care for PPPLMGWIW much. Lies is cool but that's mainly because the song itself is cool. Sign o' the Times and House of the Rising Sun (and FG) are their best covers imo.
