failed_drummer
I've got both Zildjian and Sabian cymbals that I want to clean. Should I buy both Zildjian and Sabian cymbal cleaners, or go for Vater cymbal cleaner? Also, any tips on cleaning cymbals?

failed_drummer
I have to get a bass drum patch from the same website so to make pp more efficient I may as well do this properly.
cheddatom
I think you can use the same polish on each set of cymbals Apparently polishing cymbals gives you a brighter toan. I CBA so I say I like mine dark sounding.
Liam511
I imagine that one cleaning product would work for both, unless there is some weird thing like if they are different materials but even then its un likely?
Phil.
zildjian polish on a sabian cymbal = self destruct.
failed_drummer
zildjian polish on a sabian cymbal = self destruct. That's what I thought... I'm not particularly bothered about getting a bright sound (I like my cymbals dark), but I need to sell some and they look better clean. Also, I just bought some more and they are scabby. Nice-ish cymbals (Sabian B8s and XS20s), but nasty looking; the guy I bought them from clearly didn't look after them that well.
cheddatom
I really don't think you'll damage any kind of cymbal with any kind of cymbal cleaner, but maybe there are some speciality cymbals made with weird alloys of which i've not heard. Any standard cymbals will be fine with any cleaner.
failed_drummer
I wouldn't imagine that the metal would be damaged, but different companies might use different protective coatings.
cheddatom
I don't think so, but like I said, I don't bother cleaning mine. My old drummer had a selection of zildjian (sp?) sabian and stagg cymbals. He cleaned them all with this generic cleaning solution. I can't remember the name, it was something quirky like Uncle Tom's Sparkle Sauce - something stupid like that. Drake
Heres a trick I learned from my uncle who was in the services (for you americans, read military). Rub candle-wax onto any metal surface, then polish in brasso. The wax gets absorbed into the top layer of crystals and stops the metal oxidizing again for a while. Just reapply after a year or two if you are sweating everywhere, but on a sabian cymbals this method works with no detriment to tone/clarity/sustain. Or an already soft wax like surfboard wax called Sex Wax works great too and it's easier to coat the surface bonus=it smells tropical.

cheddatom
I wax my stick with vaginal discharge. Would that work OK on cymbals?
Assassin231
Groove Juice. This stuff is amazing, you just spray it all over your cymbal, wait 30 seconds and then rinse under cold water. then dry like MAD with a towl. Ive tried loads of cleaners, used ketchup, toothpaste, copper cleaner - this stuffs like 6 quid a bottle and its well worth it. If you want to keep your logos on your cymbals, you can spray around them, but just to warn you this stuff is STRONG! Just cleaned that one
failed_drummer
I decided that I couldn't be bothered, so sorry to disturb you. PS. I think vaginal discharge might be a bit streaky...

failed_drummer
Well, the cymbals weren't as bad as I thought, I have no money, and I'm really lazy (apart from actually practicing).

failed_drummer
I once tried wiping down my cymbals with a damp cloth and the streaked really badly, so if there's other...stuff... in there, it might streak the cymbals really badly...
