2013.03.02 - Joe Louis Arena, Detroit, MI, US

Time to start the countdown now that we have a confirmed date. Who's going? I'm a bit disappointed they won't be at the Palace again; it's such a nicer place than Joe Louis (and much easier to get in and out of). At least it's on a Saturday; it should make coordinating travel plans and meetups much easier!

Very glad it's on a Saturday and very glad it's not at Pine Knob/Dte. HATE that place. The Palace is probably the better of the two options but I do like how they're still managing to play new venues even after all these years of touring. In fact, I'm not sure they've ever played the same venue twice in Michigan?

I'm also happy because all I did was read the blurb in the News thread and saw all the bitching about only a handful of dates and "no midwest" shows. So I almost didn't even look at the actual dates!

Yeah, I'd gladly take Joe Louis over the DTE. I'm just envisioning getting in and out of the area. It might not be pretty.

I've only been to the Joe a couple times and it was years ago.. NIN and I think Foo Fighters maybe. All I really remember is a huge nightmarish parking structure.. Hopefully leaving won't be too stressful, but like you said it's not a weeknight so that's a plus.

I hope that Concertmaps site does presales again, I wound up with ace Palace tickets last tour...

It is still higher than last tour though!

I remember paying ≈$15 for tickets back in 2004 (unfortunately, I couldn't make it to the concert). Honestly, I was disappointed in the last tour's length/setlists. I hope the extra money is worth it this time around. Still unsure if I'll try to make it to more than one arena date or just go for one of the headlining festivals this time around.

Yeah it kind of makes me sad to look back at the prices on some of the older ticket stubs! Even my seat at the Palace last tour was only $39.50... I hope they make it to Grand Rapids/Van Andel on this tour too, finally. I'd honestly rather go to that show instead but would probably end up going to both.

This will be my first Muse show. I'm beyond hyped. I'm guessing GA will be the $70.50 tickets? I'm doing it either way. I actually prefer the Joe to the Palace, personally. I saw RHCP there in June, and there was also a Tigers game and a One Direction or something concert at the FOX that night. I was prepared for traffic to be nightmarish, but it wasn't bad at all. I've had worse experiences at the Palace, especially after the Foo Fighters last year. If my friend hadn't made some highly illegal turns at highly illegal speeds, we would've never gotten out of there. LOL. Traffic was much better managed when I saw Radiohead there this year.

Yeah I think the floor tickets are the highest price level. But sometimes it doesn't work out like that... Just prepare for those to be the $70 though.

http://tix.concertmaps.com/muse/ - this was the presale link that they've used since at least 2006. No idea if this will be used again, but might not be a bad idea to register. When it gets closer to the onsales, direct links will show up there, then it's pretty straight forward to add tickets and check out.

*edit - muse.mu is stressing the importance of registering on the official Muse website by October 8th to be eligible for presales. So maybe things will be different this time.*

Has anyone else noticed that when you type Muse into TicketMaster, there is an option for 0 events that shows no information related to the upcoming shows and one option that says Muse with 6 events and gives pricing and venue info. Is one of those possibly fake? I don't see how that's possible on TM.

Too early to ask this now, but is there any good (and not that expensive) hotel near that Joe Louis Arena? I am not familiar with that area, and I will probably go to the gig by myself, so hopefully my hotel will be within walking distance :)

Most hotels near the Joe are probably going to be a little pricey if they're decent. I'm trying to think of any you could easily walk to from arena, but nothing immediately springs to mind. I love my city (well, I live in the suburbs, but I love being there) , but the only downside to downtown Detroit is that it's not laid out like many major cities (Chicago, NYC, etc) where many hotels are going to be in multiple strips on every street. Here's something to give you an example.

Really thank you :) !! Yeah those hotels are not cheap....I might need to consider taking a taxi or future gig in Chicago instead.

Thaaaat's awesome. I definitely plan on doing GA. This is my first Muse show, but I've done GA many times. And if I can handle being front and center on the rail 3 days at Lollapalooza, I can handle anything. Haha. As it gets closer, maybe those of us doing GA can plan a meet-up for the day. All of my friends that I'm going with are planning on doing seats, so I'll probably come separately from them. And love the username. Fuck yeah, Star Wars.

I'm going! I have never been to the Joe before so I don't know what to expect. We will have to do a meet up again like we did at the Palace; hoping to see familiar faces and some new ones. :)

Was anyone here GA for the show in Detroit in 2010?

I was and it was :awesome:

I sooo wish they would play Van Andel. I'm holding out hope for a second leg of the tour that brings them to GR as it's so very much closer for me to travel.

Parking in JLA's parking garage is a nightmare after events. If you want a quicker time (plus some extra fun on the side), I suggest taking I-75 S and then merge over to I-375 S. Take the Lafayette Ave exit ramp and immediately park inside the Greektown Casino parking garage on the right. I believe if everyone in the car is 21 and up you pay $10 (and get a $10 free play voucher) but if not everyone is 21, you pay $20. That was a while ago so don't take my word as super truth.

Find your way to the Greektown station of the People Mover (monorail) either on ground (through Trapper's Alley) or through the casino and take it to the JLA stop. Enjoy the show, then take the People Mover back to Greektown. Then from there you have some fun at the casino or go home lol.

This is what I plan to do.
