There is one note that is a bit jarring right after the songs ends when he keeps playing, but yeah I really like it too.
-
I love those T2L Tour jackets.
-
I think we can narrow down our issues to two simple problems:
- Matt's shape affected the performances, both vocals and back (less guitar)
- Their misconception that they cannot be successful and appeal to large audiences by doing what they are best at: rocking the hell out of their concerts
While it's hard to tell whether something can be done about the first one, I wish they'd realise the second point.
-
Evidence from the past suggest he doesn't. For instance, they played Megalomania in Russia during the TR tour, the US was well served in terms of rarities during the 2nd leg of T2L tour, Japan has a history and their politics are broken, South Korea got a nice treat at this festival towards the end of T2L tour, and Brazil got MM.
Meanwhile, Sweden.
-
Well, Brazil got Muscle Museum.
-
So now it's a conspiracy to piss us off? Please, it's certainly stupid but do you guys think that they wake up in the morning thinking how they can anger their fans? That being said, yeah, what if a song that was always going to be played gets picked? Is it an extra slot? They're probably experimenting with this and may change the voting system when they see how well/badly it works. Impatient to see how it will turn out.

That Butterflies & Hurricanes from Montreux was phenomenal, and crowd reaction added to it.
-
Meh, I don't know, it's not like the crowds have ever sung along to anything else than Starlight, PIB, TiRO, Uprising and KoC.
-
Mmmh, people are saying that they would be content with one or two rarities but most gigs got one or two of the following: Apocalypse Please, Take A Bow, Citizen Erased, Bliss, Defector, (Map of the Problematique), didn't they?
-
Sunburn is such a good song that I can never decide which version I like best between full guitar, 2006 BDO and full piano.
-
Muse is all about that Rachmaninovesque piano though.
-
Wait, really?
They designed the stage and they don't like it?
I clearly remember an interview in which Matt said that after every single show they were like "never again". That was during the US leg.
-
Some people here are hard to follow. They complain about the stage, that's fair enough, but then complain when said stage is retired.
I mean Muse are most likely going to play in Australia at some point this year, whether or not in the context of the Drones tour is of little relevance. The guys don't like this stage, most of the hardcore fans aren't keen on it either, what's the fuss all about? And why Australia in particular? Japan won't get the stage either, and neither will many other countries. The band doesn't have an obligation to play everywhere, let alone with a particular setting. Maybe they are really fed up with it, maybe they are losing money on it. Genuise disappointment is one thing, but offhand rants are getting a bit redundant.

Seems a bit short, running at 80 minutes, but eh.
1 - Supremacy
2 - The Handler
What a start for his voice it would be nowadays.

That's probs a bit dramatic He's still perfectly capable for most of the current set, it's just the odd bits that he's noticeably struggling with. There's a chance it could be the start of the end though, if his range deteriorates even more over the next few years. We'll just have to see how he is on the next tour. Hopefully he'll get better if they take some decent time off.
Unless they change their approach on future albums to better suit whatever happens to his range, I'm guessing that'd really start to limit what they could play of their old stuff though.
Sure, the chest voice is still there, but by "particular vocals" I meant that falsetto of his. I'll try and convince myself by saying that quite a few of us were skeptical to worried after TR tour and then R&L + T2L (tour) happened.
I'd like to hear a set without The Handler though, to see if that particular song is the core of the problem.
-
I refuse to believe that we might be witnessing the very end of Matt's particular vocals, which I think are one of the reasons most of us saw something special in Muse. Please no.
-
Matt is so intense and into it, 11 minutes of pure joy without interruption. Man, T2L tour was so amazing.
-
UD is in the top 10 Muse songs.
-
The interviewers knew the band pretty well, that's cool. I mean they knew about the Showbiz hashtag and asked whether Matt saw it, and apparently they've been keeping up with the setlists of the tour so far. I wish we had more interviews like this one.

Why haven't you still played Aftermath live?

I think Matt is really close to his limits vocally at the moment, but that doesn't completely prevent them from playing longer:
1. Bring back Liquid State. Yes, Chris doesn't like to be the lead singer but come on, he did it for an entire tour and the circumstances are calling for it. Plus as someone said above, T2L is underrepresented.
2. Make Citizen Erased a staple. It's long, not too hard to sing, has nice instrumental breaks and is a hardcore fans' favourite. Could also apply to Assassin and to a lesser extent to Unnatural Selection, bar the fan favourite part.
3. Play instrumentals: Piano Thing, Forced In, Minimum, improvs...
4. Ditch the unnecessarily hard songs. Supremacy is too hard to sing for what it brings to the set. Maybe this is pushing it but if they are really keen on rotating Reapers, they could rotate it with The Handler; as sad as it would be, it'd be a fair rotation compared to Reapers/Revolt.
5. Play more easier songs: MoTP; Hyper Music with falsetto A4s, Fury half a step down, Animals.

A great final note. Nowadays it would seem completely unreasonable to play such a difficult song so late in the set (all the more so since T2L were pretty long and very demanding vocally).

And wasn't it the return of the falsetto in Bliss, too? I seem to remember that.
