That middle riff is so damn good. Seriously, if the song just developed from there it would be better than Citizen Erased.

Revolt and Aftermath almost feel like fallout from T2L.

Nope, they should've kept going with what was working. I really don't like the ballad at the end. In my opinion it ruins the songs chances of being the best track on the album.

Yeah, for sure. It just feels like a very safe move from them, or like they were too focused on making it the prog nightmare they claim it was, when really it's just your regular run of the mill nightmare.

Am yet to heard Drones and the incidental tracks, but my thoughts so far are that this album is significantly better than T2l and maybe TR (although The Globalist doesn't compare to Exo, so I'm not sure yet). The 1st half is excellent, and if they had just maintained that quality it would've been up there with BH&R, if not better, but unfortunately it stumbles a bit in its later tracks. Specifically Revolt feels terribly out of place. Not the worst thing they've ever done, but definitely the worst thing on this album. Aftermath was quite disappointing, too. I thought the first half was great, but it should've ended there rather than the over the top sing-along nonsense. The Globalist was overall really good, but the poor handling of the middle section was incredibly frustrating.

But I feel like by forcing the concept into what they'd already written it A) doesn't quite mesh all the time, and B) makes them less likely to ditch a song if it's naff. I thought that was Mercy.

Really didn't need the whistling at the start of The Globalist. The bit where the singing comes in is great, though, and it transitioned nicely. The heavy section is insane, so why in the fuck did they cut it so short? Love the choir, too. The piano ballad ending for Citizen Erased worked because by the time they get to it the bulk of the song feels like it's reached its natural conclusion. This is so forced.

Really dug Defector. Shame about Revolt, though. What Everything was to Nine Inch Nail's Hesitation Marks, meaning that I actually enjoy the song, but it's so out of place here. Love Matt's falsetto, though.

Instrumentally the song is awesome. Vocals are mostly okay, except for the lyrics. I don't really mind the harmonies, but I wish they weren't quite so prominent in the mix. The solo is ace.
