You're free to like UD live, I'm not asking you to hate it
This is indeed the unique live version of Undisclosed Desires which I like (
, but it's the only actual live performance which is at least enjoyable. The one which doesn't make you yawn)[YT]
[/YT]Love that version, but that's because it takes the best part of the studio version and gives it a little extra kick. Live strings = best strings.
-
Both fairly straightforward, frankly. Some of the broken chords in SD can be awkward I guess.
-
SD is even more straightforward than RBS tbh, the melodic progression is far simpler.
-
I am trying and failing to play it in the piano. I can play the first 4 bars, feel pretty cool, and then turn the page and faint
Once you get the harmonic progression in the main part sorted (which isn't hard) it becomes a lot easier.
-
I remember the first time I really properly listened to Space Dementia, on proper headphones at decent volume.
Fairly sure the first words out of my mouth after the first 90 seconds was "holy shit".
Still can't listen to the Hullaballo performance though. At least, not the first 90 seconds.
Replicate that, please. That intensity coupled with that sort of musical skill. I miss it.

I Might Be Wrong getting a lot of plays lately.
-
Not doing Showbiz, don't listen to it enough.
OOS
Citizen Erased
Space Dementia
Megalomania (these three are extremely close though)
Screenager (didn't see that coming, did you? This and the next two are again very close)
Bliss
New Born
Hyper Music
Plug In Baby (to place a track like this this far down the list)
Micro Cuts
Feeling Good
Dark Shines
Absolution
Blackout
RBS
B&H
FAWY (this and B&H again very close)
Apocalypse Please
Endlessly
Sing For Absolution
Stockholm Syndrome (album version)
Hysteria
Time Is Running Out
TOADA
TSP
BHAR
Tough as hell, this one, not for the best reasons either.
CoD
Hoodoo
TAB
Assassin
KoC
MOTP
SMBH
Invincible
rest
The Resistance
If Exo is taken as a single track (as I often do), it goes here. Otherwise:
Cross-Pollination
MK Ultra
Overture
Redemption (top four are closeish, the top three especially so)
USOE
Undisclosed Desires
Resistance
IBTY
Uprising
Unnatural Selection
Guiding Light
-
More a Muse-in-general one, but I'd forgotten how much I loved Exo taken as one 12ish-minute track.
-
bass is borderline inaudible unless you really concentrate, for one, and has absolutely no meat-to-the-bone. drums - esp the snare - is missing a certain kick. lots of other things.
it's just a bit of a mess, really.
it's a shame because that's one song that i reckon, if mastered properly, could sound absolutely amazing on record. but as is...
-
not only is the recording shit, but also the songs. I mean, what is Matt even singing in Micro Cuts? I don't even...
tbh, the only reason I like Muse is because of The Resistance. I Belong to You is absolute genius.
/el oh el
dey see me trollin'

Yeah Stockholm immediately came to mind too. Really hard for me to listen to the studio version. I just put on live recordings if I want to listen to it.
-
OOS is their best "sounding" album production wise by a country mile imho.
edit: this does not reflect well on the production of their other albums, ftr
-
That has to be one of the best performances of SD they've done. The piano intro is note and touch perfect, which is close to a first. That synth is very very cool. And the outtro...
-
Nah, I've seen meaner. On one board I'm part of even if you like really out there, avant-garde, eclectic tastes, like insanely experimental electronica or something, if you post it, say, a few weeks later than the decreed time where it's "new" then you get absolutely burnt. It's just how forums work.
-
TBH that just looks like regular forum banter, not genuine abuse. Although perhaps there's worse.
Cheers for the link though. That cover of Teardrop is quite cool, keeping the warm piano is a massive plus.
-
Are they abusive to the festival though, or just to other members? If so that's normal forum fare.
-
"Forum atmosphere" heh. You wouldn't last 5 minutes on the Lollapalooza message boards. They are absolutely brutal over there. Got torn to shreds, especially for liking Muse.
I just wouldn't join. That's my point - I just wouldn't see the point of being part of those forums.
I'm a member of many forums, have been for years FTR. I know how they work.
-
Are you directing that at ME?
Nah. More an in general comment.
-
To be fair, I'm pretty sure all that was meant as a joke rather than literally.
Don't know about that... read through the gig thread. It got pretty hot in there.
Complain, but try to do it in a way that doesn't completely ruin the forum atmosphere, yeah?
-
"Cunts and assholes" is a bit far on their board though.

Powerslide + Short sharp intro.
Matt doing the little horsey strum doing the first verse is pretty neat too.
EDIT: Maybe not the best, but pretty damn good.
-
Oh I knew that he didn't before, but didn't realise that wasn't a real piano.
Â
As I said, it would partially explain why his playing is so brutal. Never played an electric piano/keyboard which felt right and hence could be played in the same way.
-
Bit dodge. Would explain partially why his playing is so... brutal, then, if he's not actually using a real piano.
-
I'm going to check that.
Hmmm... on
I can't get a decent shot of where the mechanism would be but from underneath it looks pretty similar to a grand.
Speculation on future gigs/tours

Re: The Aus dates - those are mighty close to the start of the football codes' season launch dates. Will those stadiums even be available at that time?
