  1. If they want to smash the stage, good for them. If they don't, then they shouldn't do it. Otherwise, it's just contrived.

    This

    Agreed.

    Similarly agreed. Both fairly weak songs comparatively on the album IMO.

    Don't know about the other two, but Assassin certainly is. I don't like it much on BH&R; as someone else said, the heavy parts of it sound a bit 'fake'; not actually heavy, and it just isn't that exciting, but it comes into its own live.

    A lot of tracks on BH&R sound crap on the album despite being very good live, with reason.

  2. I just think they could have done more with it. It's the middle section of the symphony, but it builds up to the guitar section, and then it just dies out almost instantly, and that's it for the rest of the symphony. They could have had more musical ideas in there. (I'm not saying that I wanted it to remain guitar-orientated for ages, just that they could have explored it more)

    I agree with you there, and of course the work is by no means perfect, not even close. But I can't get past the chromatic buildup of the intro, it's a technique Matt hasn't really used until this album.

    I still think Redemption takes way too long to get going though. Don't get me wrong, I have no clue how he could have made it shorter given the melody (Liszt) and structure he was working with, but I don't know. It's a nice piece and the vocal part is beautiful and the ending is certainly the right length, but... I see why it's so popular (most popular part if I'm not mistaken based on polls I've seen) because it is such a good melody/structure. It's not all his, though :p

  3. Because The Resistance seems like it had a bit more thought into it than BHAR. BHAR to me is like they just did whatever the hell they want. Exo-Politics disgusts me, and the album had no flow whatsoever.

    The Resistance, however, seems like it had a point. And I don't hate any of the songs on it - while yes, I dislike one or two, for the most part it's a solid album. BHAR is just a bunch of random thoughts to me.

    Plus, the production is awful for such a well-established rock band on BHAR. I simply can't ignore it as it permeates the whole album, and it almost ruins KoC for me.

    Which is sad because live BHAR is one of their absolutely strongest albums (TR being the weakest) but the studio versions just... ugh.

  4. Even the studio version is a bit 'meh' for me. I feel like its just missing something...

    But the EBow Matt uses in Invincible is just :awesome:

    the studio version is definitely missing something. i was trying to say that invincible is one song which is dull and lifeless on CD, great live.

    soldier's poem is just completely different. probably should've been a b-side release as it so different that it will break the flow of whatever album it's put on. however, it's not a bad song. it's nicely written, nicely sung and has decent lyrics.

  5. HUUUGGGEE :noey::noey::noey::noey:

    Fury=MAJOR :noey:

    The Groove=Sort of. I used to love it but it wore off quite quick.

    Me three. I've actually really started to like Invincible. I've never warmed up to soldier's poem. But invincible is actually pretty awesome live...especially the HAARP version.

    Soldier's Poem is by no means a bad song, it's just not a live song.

    Invincible is the exact opposite. It only works live, when the EBow + Solo comes into its own.

  6. The nature of being on stage if you nearly always play everything faster as you're completely on edge, trying to not make mistakes and all that.

    Criticising a band for trying too fast is utterly stupid as it really can't be helped as the musicians often think they are playing at the correct tempo and often to the crowd, it doesn't feel that fast... only watching it later when you're sat down. :)

    Oh, I get that. But compare:

    to

    It's a really, really, really minor thing (all of 20 seconds difference in a 6 minute song), but I'm a perfectionist :p

  7. That's just rock'n'roll for you.

    Eh. I don't like songs played over-tempo. It makes them sound rushed, you don't get the sense of scale, buildup and tension, and you don't enjoy the good bits as much when they're shorter. It's not hugely important on CE... however on very old versions of Space Dementia, it was miles too quick.

    I think you're right.

    I also feel it'd sound better if it went like this in the chorus:

    Chris: For one moment

    Matt: I wish you'd hold your stage with no feelings at all

    Chris: Open minded

    Matt: I'm sure I used to be so free.

    It comes across that Matt is struggling, and it doesn't sound right, because the vocals almost overlap on record.

    That probably doesn't make much sence but make out what you can :p

    If he sang it studio-pace then it would be fine.
