  1. Dead Inside has really seemed to grow in people's estimations. I wonder if that will change after being toured constantly for 3 years...

The live version is already appalling tbh and needs fixing pronto, for reasons which don't reflect on the studio version's quality that much.

  2. Are you guys kidding me. This song sucks. If you like it pleeeeesse check out my music on soundcloud you will think I am a rock god . I much prefer NsC because it musically had a true muse sound to it

Why do people think that songs are somehow redeemed by having a "true" or "classic Muse" sound? If anything that just makes it worse if it's bad.

    EDIT: Also this isn't.

  3. really? ok  fair enough I suppose

The sheer "safeness" of Survival's main melody is one of my main beefs with the song, the more awkward sound on this makes it more interesting IMO.

  4. really not sure about this one. Sounds like Survival but with even less of a decent melody (which is a fucking feat in itself)

I'd actually count this in the song's favour tbh.

  5. I think the reason some think the heavy part is too short is because the drums take ages to kick in. So they don't start counting until then.

It's too short because the best part - the tremolo part - lasts barely over 15 seconds. And then they basically deliberately mush everything up so they don't have to bother with any kind of actual sensible resolution of the melody into the piano bit.

EDIT: I should say though, this is easily my favourite of the 2nd half songs. It's just so bafflingly structured, I'm genuinely unsure how they thought this would do justice to the potential the song had. It almost sounds... unfinished.

  6. Currently the track that's growing the fastest on me. It's just so totally and utterly different to anything they've ever done before that its flaws are much easier to forgive than on Major Key Pop Rock Song With Multitrack Vocals number whateverthefuckwe'reon.

  7. It might be the fact that there's only 9 proper songs (taking away Drones, JFK and Drill- which to some people will be seen as filler rather than actual tracks). This means that if you don't like Aftermath, Revolt, Defector, Globalist etc. then you might potentially only be enjoying 5 songs. Taken at this perspective, that's a pretty short album  I personally don't like 2 songs (Defector and Revolt) but even though that's only 2 songs, it seems like a lot more because it's 2 out of 9. If it had been 2 out of 12 I wouldn't have batted an eyelid. So yeah, I think it's more an illusion of a short album because of the "filler" but I might be off when I say that, just guessing tbh

Yeah that's true as well. I'm personally not bothered by the length at all, but there are a lot of reasons why the 53 minute runtime might feel misleading when people actually listen to the album.

  8. You realise it's like 53 minutes long, right? That is about the average length for a Muse album,

I don't think he's really talking about length timewise there. It certainly feels a bit short for a 53 minute album, but whether that's because we've got the album in little bits making it feel shorter - which is not entirely their fault - or because there's a lot of repeated themes, ideas, melodies etc etc making it feel like there's "less" music in there for the physical time it lasts for - which is definitely their fault - I don't know.

  9. The piano ballad wouldn't even be a problem if the song had good transitions and a longer heavy part (preferrably with vocals). Genuinely a missed opportunity.

Yeah agree with this. Weird to think that a 10 minute song is too short, but it definitely is.

I really hope they do something similar to what they do with B&H live and draw out that tremolo bit to make the transition to piano a lot smoother.

  10. Disappointed because the best part of the song was also the shortest and simplest. It's still a good song. 2nd on the album for me but my hype level was pretty high tbh. And it barely didn't meet it.

If you think the rest of it are beautiful, that's hardly grounds for disappointment though.

  11. This is starting to get irritating. Is it that hard to compose your own piece?

In fairness, (as I said in the other thread), this is far from the first time they have written a song or a massive chunk of a song directly on top of a well-known classical piece. It used to be a signature thing of theirs. (though perhaps not... quite this obvious)

  12. Yeah, first 6 minutes are gold. Outro leaves you wanting more.

And I quite like Drones, this is what an Acapella is, not sure what else people were expecting.

    Perhaps people don't like acapella.

I mean, I like it, but it's kind of an all-or-nothing sort of deal.

  13. Love it. Not what I was expecting, but love it.

Not sure where the CE2 hype came from, but it's epic in its own way.

Because Matt more or less straight up implied it was CE2, IIRC
