hooglebug
body shaped - the ledge is just to get the binding level set before i start doing angles and carving having a bandsaw makes things sooooooooooooo much easier its unbelievable. still waiting on my flamey maple so i can get started on the other one. and this shape still doesnt have a name yet. its called 'gt' for goldtop at the minute till i can think of something better
hooglebug
both necks are up to the same point - the goldtops top has had its angles put on (still waiting for the top for the burst, should come this week) the headstocks have white/black on the top in case i decide not to bind them. still unsure about that

james90
hooglebug, do you think you could do a finish the same as this one? http://afguitars.co.uk/11011.html i love that burst
hooglebug
well technically i CAN do it as it did that one hehe. but its not going to be on one of these. the one in the pics is going to be a gold top, and the other is going to be a good old fashioned cherry burst. i got the beauty of the burst book and have been picking my favourites out of that to do. by the way, they'll both have ivoroid binding. i cant decide whether or not to bind the headstocks. hooglebug
so. what to do, what to do. headstock binding yay or nay looking at that i think no on the goldtop, but cant decide about the burst
IntelligentAl
Yay for both, nothing finishes a guitar off like binding, particularly on the headstock. EDIT: Is that beauty of the burst book any good? Been meaning to get a copy of that for ages.
Larry.
No for the goldtop, yes for the burst.
IntelligentAl
Is the goldtop going to be gold sparkle or regular gold?
hooglebug
Is the goldtop going to be gold sparkle or regular gold? its going to be like the original les paul finish - so it will be bronze powder in clear coat with a few other little bits mixed in
cheddatom
I like the binding on both. Good to see some building going on!
Phill
yeah, with the neck and body having binding, i think the headstock needs it too.
MegaEBoy
No for Gold, Yes for Burst Looks hawt. Though I would say, I wonder what it would look like with no binding on the neck of the burst O.o Just curious...

Yeah I meant for a different guitar. I didn't know how much they vary, but I love that burst...especially with the flame top. What's the body actually made of? site says 40 year old fireplace mantelpiece, but what is it specifically? As for the headstock binding, I'd put it on the burst, but not the gold top. hooglebug
i have no idea what it is. that guitar was just an experiment really to see if the baby idea worked. and it did. i did it as cheaply as possible, and as that mantlepiece was available i just used that. IntelligentAl
srs? Looks so smart to me, I actually prefer that to the standard Gold Tops.
hooglebug
yesterday i got the logos cut out only to find my dremel had broken, so i couldnt inlay them. which was a bugger. so i made a couple of truss rod covers from the same black/white/black veneer sandwich as the back of the headstocks instead. and got the neck pocket done so once im ready to do it its all set to be glued together. but theres lots to do before that yet. because i dont have a flat end to the fretboards, i cant just route straight through the top like on a les paul, so i have to have a step in the neck
Phill
i enjoy seeing proper luthiery like this. It's a big step up from bolting a neck on a plank and giving it a nice finish like the rest of us do on here...
cheddatom
yeh watching it progress is ace. I love a good luthiers "build diary". Could do with some nice wood for your pics instead of nasty carpet.
