  1. I reckon maybe change the question around a little bit and could be decent. Like you said the technology mention is pointless, but if the question was more "if you were to go back and re-record Showbiz now, what would you change (if anything) about the songs, production etc..."

Basically just see what they dislike about their old stuff

    That sounds more sensible.

  2. Sounds like an awful idea to me. Showbiz was SUPPOSED to be very stripped down, sound-wise as well as production-wise. If anythings outdated or unmodern, it's the songwriting, not the production.

Like...what is more technology even gonna add to that album?

I agree. Showbiz is perfect the way it is.

  3. So glad someone managed to get this in before the window shut.

Important question imo, needed to be asked.

They'd have to be half sausage from the waist down.:stongue:

I'm sure they never mistook each other for girls, though; the bulges would have been in the wrong places.;)

  4. If this one doesn't get answered, Matt did talk about it a bit in an interview. I think the only one I've really seen him talk about the song.

He was fascinated with what he saw as a disturbing juxtaposition between the religious music and lyrics about death by modern technology. (Interestingly, one of the blacked out text articles posted on their IG prior to the album release saw Matt in '01 talking about how Japan made him realize that separation of spirituality and technology/progress was destroying our connections to ourselves and each other.)

In the same interview, Matt begins talking about the "amen" at the end, but then either trails off, or mumbles so badly the mic doesn't pick it up.

(Behind Drones, Up Close with Muse Interview.)

If you go way back to that German Ticketmaster print interview, Matt referred to The Globalist as being 13 minutes long, and ending with the voices of the ghosts of people killed in drone strikes that would never see justice, indicating Drones is in fact actually part of The Globalist that was separated later for whatever reason.

The same interview in which Matt says The Globalist was written before the rest of the songs, and was a "sequel" to CE in that he was trying to "recapture" how he wrote songs back in those days.

Which does lead me to wonder why that process involved him covering, or recreating, three other existing pieces of music...

Today I was doing something boring but necessary on a blog and decided to listen to some calming, classical music. First up in alphabetical order was 'Miserere' by Allegri. I thought, 'I'd love to listen to some Palestrina. I'll go to the itunes shop and buy the Missa Papae Marcelli because it's really famous and I should know it and Matt used part of it on Drones. Before I wasted my money I saw that I already had it; it was on the same CD as the Allegri. I'd never listened to it because I had such bad memories of being a music student and having to write in the style of Palestrina. I could never bloody do it, no matter how hard I tried! Anyway, I now know that the music Matt used is the Benedictus and is probably on youtube for anyone who wants to listen. Matt's pastiche is so well done but what else should I expect from a genius?:matt::awesome:

I know everyone interprets songs differently but this really shocked me. Back when I was struggling with depression, I clung to Muse to get me through it. :( I wish it were the same for you.

I guess it depends on how the lyrics affect how you think; they're pretty thought-provoking. In some people who are struggling with mental illness, they might provoke dark thoughts. I've invited him to talk to people on the mental health thread as I doubt this question will be passed on to the band.

I've had a reply from the poster. It seems English isn't his first language and he may have meant to say something else and just used the wrong words by mistake.

  5. Would you consider a tour where just the three of you plus Morgan appeared on the stage of a stadium or arena with huge screens showing each one of you through out the entire performance i.e. fixed cameras? That way you wouldn't have the problems of transporting and setting up a huge stage and the audience could see what each member is doing at all times instead of being at the mercy of whoever is operating the cameras.

  6. I know my 'question' on disability wasn't really a question but I'm glad it was moved here instead of just being deleted. I thought the question which blamed Muse for the problems faced by disabled fans was unfair to target them and wanted to let them know that some of their disabled fans know it isn't their fault. I'd still like them to be aware and to tell whoever is responsible for booking venues that they MUST insist on fair treatment for disabled fans.

This means I get a second question, right? :D

  7. Matt, I have a gift for you, where can I mail so you'll get it? It's nothing obscene or offensive, just a small mixed media collage artwork ( pic included, hopefully ). I was going to try and meet you (again) after the Barclay's Center show and give it to you personally, but I had a minor medical emergency and had to go with the EMT's to the medical room instead. Thank you Matt.<3

This ties in with the second question I wanted to ask. Fans often ask where they can post gifts for band members and I think, at present, the only place we can post things to is the record company. Would the band consider employing one or more people specifically to deal with gifts and cards? It would be nice to have an address that wasn't linked to the record company which may not be permanent.

  8. Why are disabled fans treated so badly by you? Unable to use pre sales ,having to ask for carer tickets (they aren't automatic) people with some disabilities like myself can't attend gigs alone, a derisory number of wheelchair spaces available which are inevitably at the back of the venue.Explain.

I would like to add my own question on the same subject. I don't think Muse treat disabled fans badly. In my experience of being able-bodied and working with people who are disabled and then becoming disabled myself, I've found that, unless you have personal experience of disability, you tend not to think about it. I would love it if Muse would insist that the people who book venues ensure that they are fully accessible and that disabled people are not disadvantaged. It took me two weeks to get a wheelchair space for the Emirates Stadium in 2013 by which time the best seats had gone. They wouldn't accept that I was disabled without a letter from my doctor which cost me £50 as I wasn't in receipt of the upper level of Mobility Allowance. I didn't claim it because I didn't need the money.

  9. Sorry!

My first attempt at doing this digitally. I hadn't considered it before, but you're right, it is important. I will try to edit that in now or include it in a future survey.

Thanks again for taking the time to look over it!

No problem! If you're only allowed one other field, 'other' would cover it.:)

  10. Almost halfway there!

A big thanks to all those who have responded so far!!

I've filled it in but it allows annoys me on surveys when the only options for 'employment status' are 'employed, unemployed or student.' What about 'retired?' Self-employed?' 'Unable to work due to sickness or disability?' Maybe someone here is lucky enough to have 'inependent means?'

  11. zeos, you have been Musevangelized! My husband and I are 62; we were on the barrier at LA-2 and you may have noticed some activity in the corner at the end. I took a video, as we knew Matt was going to greet our friend Catherine (the ginger) at the end, on the occasion of her 140th Muse gig! She got hugs from Matt and Dom, and totally unexpectedly Morgan came down and handed me his cabasa! He usually ducks under the stage and out, but we guess he just recognized me as a die-hard fan and gave it to me! (I first met Morgan in 2006 in LA, so he does know me.)

That was a great concert! Glad to hear you enjoyed it! Once you see Muse perform live, it becomes a bit of a habit!

How lovely! So, Catherine has passed the 140 gig mark? That woman is a legend!:D

Zeos, come and join us on the Oldies thread; we need all the members we can get! We don't just talk about old people stuff as many of our oldies are actually quite young!

  12. Interesting article...must be a hell of a job to get the show run smooth every time again.

Yes, which is why I'd love them to play big venues but just have three huge video screens behind them. Each would show the image of each full-time member of the band throughout the concert so the audience could chose whom to look at at any time and could see and hear the music live with no fuss. Small venues are great but they can't accommodate everyone who wants to see them. As long as we can see that they are there, live, and hear their music, live, that would be enough for me and easier for them to travel from one venue to another. Cheaper, too. Can someone pass this suggestion to the band?

  13. Yup, I'm one of those people unable to attend the show because of the snowstorm - was supposed to be en route to Boston right now, however my flights were cancelled. :(

Sure, this was a calculated risk on my part (and yes, I did purchase travel insurance), but still... Perhaps the band's management might wish to reconsider the wisdom of scheduling a major tour in the US Northeast/Mid-Atlantic IN JANUARY. (In fact, this would be true for the entire northern tier of the US.)

And because my cancellation only occurred in the last couple of hours, and the ticketing agency won't reopen until tomorrow (the day of the show), it looks like my very prime seated ticket will go completely to waste.

Not too happy right now, needless to say.

I'm so sorry! I live in the UK and, in England and Wales at least, we rarely get heavy snow in winter and distances are so small people don't need to fly. It would make more sense if they came here in Jan/Feb and toured the USA from April.

  14. I'm not an attendee but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that everyone will be able to get to the gig. I have family and friends in Mass, New York, Maryland and Washington DC and that storm looks so bad, I hope the band can get there, and all of the fans, too.

  15. You want spooky? I've just scored a ticket to see them in Cologne! This will be our first tour as well! :D

I'm old enough to be YOUR mother and I only became a fan three years ago. My kids saw them before I did. My husband went with me to see them last year and my son will go with me this year.:)
