  1. Space Dementia cites Rachmaninov; Megalomania seems like a blend between Mendelssohn organ work and Phantom Of The Opera; Collateral Damage (coda of United States Of Eurasia) is a reinterpretation of a famous Chopin's Nocturne; the "No / I don't think you do / There's no justice / In the world" part in Soldier's Poem is similar to the Ave Maria; the Exogenesis Symphony is influenced by Chopin, Liszt and Beethoven; Stockholm Syndrome riff retains a very "classical" feel; Unsustainable and Isolated System are influenced by Varèse, Penderecki, post-modern music in general and musique concrète; Survival seems to have a Verdi-like feel...

These are the first connections that pop in my mind. I'll give you other ones as soon as I can.

Yep. That's the Schubert 'Ave Maria' which I prefer to the Bach/Gounod version. 'I Belong to You' of course quotes 'Mon Coeur S'Oeuvre a ta Voix' from Samson and Delilah by Saint-Saens.

  2. Alright! So my final project this year in art history is to write an essay about a contemporary artist, in any medium. Naturally, I would like to write my paper on Muse. If anyone would like to help me, here are the requirements:

    • Give a formal analysis, contextual analysis, and full description of a particular work of art
    • How does the artist define art?
    • Who is the audience?
    • Can you connect it to past art? Is there a precedent in the artworld for this piece?
    • Why did you select this artist as your topic; your personal feelings about the art
    • The paper should be accompanied by a slide presentation you will give to the class.

My teacher suggests that if possible, we get in contact with the artist and ask them more questions, but knowing how popular Muse is, I think that it's very unlikely that I'll be able to do so. Anyhow, if anybody has any suggestions or tips, I would really appreciate it!

'Can you connect it with past art?' I hear a lot of Bach in Matt's guitar solos. 'Plug-in Baby' sounds like a chorale prelude as in 'Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring.' I've never checked it closely but it sounds as though the melody of the verse would form a counterpoint with the guitar introduction/obbligato.

  3. Black and white has its place in video and film, but during a concert or performance video it sucks all the warmth and feeling out of it. Kills the energy.

Maybe there's some performers that that would still work for, but Muse - a notably vibrant band - is certainly not one of them.

    What she said.

  4. They are such close friends, they can say anything to each other and know it's not meant to be taken seriously. Dom is known to be so placid that Matt goes to extreme lengths to provoke him but never can. I love the way they interact. Yes, they are like brothers.

  5. Well, let's not get ahead of ourselves, here... there's only like a dozen questions, and some of the answers were literally one word. Maybe two...

I'm interested to see if Morgan answers his.

    What did you ask Morgan?

  6. I'm with you a little bit there, although CE literally made my night! I had such a massive (possibly a bit scary to the band as I was on the barrier) smile on my face throughout whilst also singing along. I left the gig so beyond disappointed, but I have since developed a striking pair of rose tinted glasses about the rest of the night. To be fair, I still feel like The Globalist was such a highlight. I had found that one such a snoozed fest on YouTube videos, but in person I loved it. I would have preferred TaB over UD, BUT at least I do actually really enjoy UD a lot. I'd have actually preferred a traditional barrier walk for that one from Matt, as I couldn't see him very well for most of it anyway and I was stood on the barrier so it would have been nice to experience that. I just can't stop smiling at CE, I've been wanting to hear that one live for so long! I'd say the only song left on Origin that I actually care about seeing is Dark Shines. I've been lucky enough to see PIB 4 times, Bliss twice, FG (if we want to call this lucky?) once and also Hyper Music once. So I'd love to see Dark Shines one day and that would be me happy with Origin. I've never been fussed about things like Futurism.

I think I personally just found it difficult to go from seeing them in such an amazingly intimate gig last year with a phenomenal setlist (Manchester) to seeing them on a more commercial scale this year. I'd much rather them start alternating club tours in between their arena and stadium tours as a regular thing, because I'd definitely go to as many of the smaller gigs as I could and then maybe go to one arena or stadium gig.

I was really lucky to see them in Newport last year but smaller venues mean fewer people get to see them and I feel bad that there are so many parts of the world who never see them at all. I know some US fans weren't able to get to shows this time because they were all too far away.

  7. I've just heard a trailer for an outside broadcast coming up from Wembley Arena on BBC Radio 2. They used 'Uprising' but I doubt Muse will be playing. I've emailed Ken Bruce to ask why this is the only time I ever hear Muse on his show. I was only half-listening to the trailer so I have no idea who IS playing or when it will take place.

I've just found out that it's going to be a live debate on the EU Referendum. [Facepalm]

  8. Thats horrid.

I had a spare as a mate who had two tickets was sick so couldn't make it. I gave it back to the box office when I went in so they could as they say "give it to someone who was a victim of Fraud". Glad to hear that they actually did that.

Also, did anyone else get told they needed to be re-seated as a camera had been placed in thier seats....only to see later on that all the seats had people in them #someonefuckedup

    That was kind of you.:)

  9. Another great show. As it was the last London show, and thus the last time I'll see Muse until God knows when, I made sure to make the most of it, even for Supermassive and Starlight. Really enjoyed it.

Thought we were about to get Defector at the end of JFK, could swear they started the intro but then abruptly went into Stockholm. Oh well.

The Globalist sounded the best of the five nights tonight I thought, particularly beefy.

    Cue post-tour depression.

Give it a few days. I'm always on a high for several days after I've seen them. I saw them on Monday. I think it's great you were able to see all the O2 shows.

  10. Really enjoyed last night but we had to leave at 1030 so missed last couple of songs tonget homega for our daughter and I had to go to work too

But for somebody whosaid been going to gigs from 1975

And have seen all sorts from slade , glitter :) stats quo etc etc in say muse were right up there with the best in have seen

Great night and will be getting drones cd when I get paid next week

BTW is it just gigs now or don't muse do any audience participation as noticed there was very little pause between songs and no covers eiher

    Very impressed

Did they do audience participation once upon a time?

  11. Yeah, I've got post gig depression, but only through seeing the setlists for the other nights...

Oh, for goodness' sake! Some people can't see them this time AT ALL, either through illness or lack of money or because Muse aren't playing anywhere within 1,000 miles from them.

Post in English; just use simple language and your meaning will be clear.:)

  13. désolée...effectivement les traducteurs inventent leurs propres expressions...je voulais juste dire "alors aucune chance". Traduction incongrue...les drones prennent le pouvoir!!! lol :)

Yeah, those online translators are terrible! I learned French up to the age of 18 and my spoken French is poor but I can read it okay. I had a fantastic teacher who told us that you can't translate idioms/sayings/expressions directly from one language into another. She was right!

I'm a fan of a singer who was popular in the 60s and 70s. There is a secret group on Facebook for some of his fans and there are only about 100 of us. He reads our posts and posts there himself because he can cope with 100 of us but he told us the official Facebook group of the band he is in has 50,000 members so he doesn't go there because there are too many people posting. You can imagine how hard it would be for Muse to read all the posts on this forum!

  14. I don't know about that, but general guitar abuse (like chucking one away twice) usually seems to indicate that something's amiss. There was a bit of unintentional feedback at times through the amplifiers, so I wonder if that was also true of the in-ear monitors that the band have - if you can't hear properly what you sound like then it throws you off.

I saw Matt chucking the guitar once at the diamond stage at my end. When was the other occasion? It looked odd as it wasn't at the end of the gig and he didn't smash it up so it wasn't a cathartic moment for anybody and seemed a bit pointless.

Anyone else got post-gig depression? I won't be able to see them again this year though I know I was lucky to see them at all, and I saw them last year, too. I can't bear to wait another two or three years.:'(

  15. To be honest, i was not particularly bothered about the loss of guitar doing Starlight. Or indeed the first half of Uprising. I think i saw Morgan with a guitar in his hidey hole during these songs.

    I didn't even notice. :$

Post-gig depression has set in, especially as I don't know when I'll see them again. I can't afford, both in terms of money and in health, to see Muse more than once a year. I was lucky to see them last year but whether they will do any gigs next year or the year after that I can get to I don't know. :(

  16. zut...Then none becomes moldy that he reads my question?

'None becomes moldy?' I know English isn't your first language so can you please post in French as well so anyone who speaks a bit of French can be more clear about what you mean? Thanks!

  17. We got barrier and an incredibly close view as a result. I thought Matt looked p*ssed off all night, and I'm only a casual fan but it was clear to see. Especially at the end, when Dom was holding out the closing beat of Knights, he looked agitated before finally smiling after.

Also, as a guitarist, I thought his tone was muddy. That said, I very much enjoyed the evening and was pleased to see CE, more so at how well his voice held up to singing it these days.

After reading comments on earlier gigs with people saying Matt's voice didn't sound as good as usual, I asked my son what he thought, as my hearing's rubbish. He said he thought Matt wasn't really trying.:(
