    Yeah but like I said, most of what they did on T2L they had already done before. And simply bringing in some dub step elements and a choir isn't enough to be considered wildly experimental imo.

    Messaging from a toilet on New Years, lol. Anyway, Muse doing electronic driven pop is not experimental, since they had already done it. They had already written songs in 5/4, and they had already done symphonic rock. Dabbling with different genres was literally what they had done for the past 2 albums. So what they did was to try on brostep and a choir. That's literally the level of experimenting that pretty much every band does between albums.

    When bands have their "wildly experimental album" it's usually about trying to do something new though, not just trying to imitate genres of the 70s and 80s.

    I know you're mostly pointing out how strange that sounds but I totally get what he means and I think the Vuilstamen Riff is a good example of it.

    The only way I listen to BH&R, TR, T2L or Drones is either through individual songs, or in playlists where I've grouped songs of similar genres together.

    Don't think anyone said or implied that ballads are inherently bad. Espectro even specified it to "shitty ballad". But most of us here share the opinion that Matt rarely write any good ballads anymore.

    Yeah because not only is it a bit too late, but they're also trying to go backwards. They say they don't but it's obvious that they were trying to get back to something.

    I feel like Showbiz->Absolution was a perfect album sequence where every album developed certain aspects of the last one and brought something fresh to the table. Then it seemed like they went "okay what do we do now? Let's try everything" and they made an album simply trying out different things. That's when it should have ended. That's where they should have gone "Okay lets go in this direction". Instead they make two MORE albums just experimenting, but never actually moving forward. Sorry, I've said this almost as many times as Clunge has mentioned 2004.

    Okay after looking through some setlists, it was pretty common in 2001. But just as common overall that they weren't even close to eachother, or that they even were the other way around like on the album. But when it was played in that order, it was very rarely the opener. It usually followed Dead Star or New Born.

    Yeah I'm not doubting that they didn't play Citizen Erased after Micro Cuts, I'm questioning why you're pointing that out as if it's weird. Why would CE be played after Micro Cuts? It rarely ever was.

    Hysteria was the logical opener for that era imo, like Psycho and Uprising. That's why didn't mention it as an exception.

    Right.. Personally I think the solo is easily the worst part of most songs.

    We've had a few odd openers over the years. MK Ultra is another one. And Stockholm Syndrome. Personally I prefer the opener that really gets the crowd going. Psychoanalyst the like are perfect openers.
