  1. lol Well I hope he does this country some good, God knows we need it:rolleyes:

I have seen Ocean's Eleven! (and twelve, and thirteen:LOL:) I love those movies! Is Cockney rhyming slang like what the black guy always speaks like?

And It's a little after 8pm now here ;) so hopefully you've having a good night's sleep now! haha

Oh yes Americans make soooo much sense all the time. One word I just thought of that I think is funny how you call making-out "snogging" lol. I found that out thanks to Harry Potter!

Hmm, bonfire night? We have just random nights where we decide to have bonfires lol but nothing that's ever designated "bonfire night" is that like a big deal over there?:p

  2. Yeah I did, I just thought since he's had so much past political experience he would make a good president, but I'm supporting Obama too. I'm not a radical conservative, I think my political views are rather moderate. I am interested to see what Obama does though, it will definitely be a change and I think change is good.

Cockney rhyming slang? okay! I was just throwing it out there lol. If I can think of anymore words or sayings that have always confused me I'll definitely be sure to ask you, too.

And having a clamp on your car makes a lot more sense than a boot....I dunno where half of our phrases or names for things come from honestly:rolleyes:

And good for you for keeping your liver healthy:D I'm honestly not that big of a drinker, especially compared to some people in college who drink just about every night:facepalm: Just for occasions usually, and even then I usually don't get drunk. I'm more of a casual drinker I guess, having a couple mixers here and there but nothing too crazy. I don't even play many drinking games anymore:eek::LOL: that was when I was younger and more rebellious/stupid lol

I'm in the central standard time zone. so right now it's 2:00 PM exactly, what about you?

  3. Sorry this is a late reply too, I was watching the election with some friends then went out to celebrate afterwards...Obama won! Although I didn't vote for him, I'm still pretty curious and interested to see where he takes the US in the future. I'm optimistic:happy:

Wow I love your spelling of words! And phrases! :Dlol I always find it interesting to see what other countries say as opposed to what Americans say....if you come up of any more you should definitely let me know. I knew about the mom/mum one, and the "ou" in a lot of words where we typically have just "o" (favorite/favourite, neighbor/neighbour, etc.)I found this British slang website, but I'm not sure how accurate it is to words you still say: http://www.londonslang.com/ <-- It's fun to read through though!

And I lol'd at "boot of a car" ...over here, a car can get a boot put on it, like on the wheel, if it parks in an illegal space or something. like this: http://www.weblogsinc.com/common/images/6280865764342742.JPG?0.586330699294365

(let me know if that link works)

But yeah, who knows where trunk came from. But that's what we call it I guess:p

Ohhh yes, beer pong and tippy cup. Fun games and pretty harmless, for drinking games at least:rolleyes:

Beer pong is when you set up 10 cups in a triangle on opposite sides of a ping-pong table and fill them up with beer. Then 2 people on each side alternate tossing a ping pong ball across the table and try to get it into one of the opponent's cups. When someone gets a ping pong ball into a cup that person who's cup the ball fell into has to drink it! And the person who gets the ball tossed into all the cups and ends up drinking them all is the loser. (but technically the winner because they get more drunk:LOL:) It's really fun..

Tippy cup is when again, you have cups filled with beer, but this time you have like 5 or so people on a team and you each have your own cup filled with beer and you're on oppsite sides of a table. You have to chug your cup of beer, then put your cup upside down on the edge of the table and "flip" it over so it lands right side up, then the next person drinks and does the same, until the last person in line finishes, and that team's the winner!

Do they kind of make sense? Or did I leave some details out while trying to describe the 2 games? It's pretty late here, about 2 AM, so forgive me if I'm a little spacey with my information;) I'm heading to bed too (I don't have class until 11:15:happy:) but it was really nice talking to you and i would love to keep this message going! Hope you're having/had a good night's sleep! Goodnight/morning!

  4. lol I have no idea, I used to pay a lot more attention to the gas prices when I drove, now I just hear about it from friends...that's a bummer though, paying for gas:indiff: especially when you have to pay for your own like I did...spent half my paycheck usually filling up my gastank...it sucked lol

Oh when do you finally get your license? Is it soon? You'll love it!!! It's so nice taking YOURSELF somewhere rather than being like MOM can you take me here and pick me up later?

I think maybe we are legally able to drink at home with our parents or something like that when we're 16-18 or something? But don't quote me on that because I don't know for sure. My parents never allowed underage drinking so there would be no way they'd let me drink with them!

Oh tonnes lol I love it! Same with favorite too I'm guessing? Favourite? Are there any American words that you think are just ridiculous or weird?

Ugh, us Americans and our stupid drinking games... some can be fun, like beer pong or tippy cup, when you only drink beer. But having people down shot after shot is nothing but trouble....

  5. lol glad we finally got the Uni/college thing cleared up:happy:

And our gas has gotten really cheap in the past few months. It went from being around $4 a gallon to now only $2 or so. Some places are even under $2...too bad I don't even drive currently since I'm in college:rolleyes: story of my life...lol

But yes driving is expensive! Having a car, paying for gas, insurance, etc. But it's definitely worth it once you realize you're not dependent on anyone taking you around anymore:)

Tonnes? Is that what you call underage drinkers? And yeah there are always underage drinkers in every country I reckon. Hell, I had my first drink when I was about 15 or 16 I'd say. Not exactly legal when we're not supposed to drink until we're 21:mad: Whatever though, I think when people drink earlier it makes them be more responsible with it later in life. Have you got the "power hour" over there? It's when you turn 21 and you're supposed to try and take 21 shots in an hour....stupidest idea I've ever heard, so many people have died trying to do it:stunned:

And I would consider drunk driving more stupid than rebellious:noey: That's another way a lot of people have died, stupid drunk drivers.

  6. Yeah I guess our colleges are called Universities technically, like the University of (fill in the blank with whatever state) But when we go to a university we never call it that, we just call it college. Unless someone asks what college you're at, then you say "Oh I'm at the University of so-and-so!":p

Yeah I've noticed things over there are a lot more pricey than over here! :eek:It's close to almost 2x the amount of $1 US dollar, right? Or am I exaggerating a bit...?

Our drinking laws are pretty strict. I know in Wisconsin you can be 18 to legally drink with a parent or something, but otherwise you have to be 21 to purchase and legally drink any type of alcohol. Smoking you have to be 18 for it to be legal, but cops don't care so much about that as they do about drinking, since there are TONS of underage drinkers over here, and a ton of drunk driving that goes on also.

But you can just apply for a provisional license? Or does that consist of taking a test and everything too? The written test for our permit was really lame. You had to know like the shapes of all the road signs and everything. the SHAPES, not what they even meant...so pointless....:indiff:

  7. I'm not sure if it's the same for every state, but for MN you have to take driver's ed when you're about 14-15 which is a 2-week long class that lasts about 3 hours and after those 2 weeks are up you take a written permit test. if you pass that you have to take driving hours with an instructor, i think up to 6? and have your permit for at least 6 months. Then when you turn 16 you can take your road test to get your license, and if you pass that, you can drive!

So Uni is basically a different type of college then? And Sixth Form sounds a lot like being a Junior and Senior in high school :p a lot more free time but you have to pass all these tests in order to move on to college. Like the ACT or SAT. They're qualifications too, so kind of like your GCSE exams it sounds like?

How old do you have to be to drive? Or legally drink or smoke even lol

And I could never imagine driving on the left side of the road, that would be so odd:LOL:

  8. :LOL:I have no idea how your system works either...I always thought ours was pretty straightforward lol. We have elementary school, which is kindergarten through 5th grade, so when you're about 5 years old to 10 or so. Then middle school, or junior high, which is 6th grade to 8th grade, and that's when you're 11-13, then high school which is 9th through 12th grade (or freshman through senior) and that goes from when you're 14-18. THEN it's college, and yes, we call it college lol. That's where you're an undergraduate student for the first 4 years, and you can either graduate in those 4 years and then try and find a job, or go to graduate school which is an additional 2-4 years typically, and that's when you can get a master's or doctorate's degree in something.

I guess after having to explain all this I can see how it isn't as straightforward as I thought:erm: I dunno, you tell me, did anything I say up there make sense?

What is a choice-Uni? I've never heard of that before, is it pretty much college?

And yeah it's fun, a lot of freedom living away from home and everything, but also a lot more responsibility. I'm not that happy at the college I'm at though, it's the 4th largest in the US and it's a little bit overwhelming, so I'm thinking about transferring after this year. We'll see though!

What are the GCSE exams? and a Sixth Form College? what does Sixth Form mean besides years 12-13?

(sorry I'm asking so many questions:$ I'm just really curious:happy:)

  9. What happens when you go to college...is it like Year 14? And do you even call it college? I've never been over to Europe and don't know many people who have so I really don't know that much about any of the places over there, you'll have to forgive me:$

And I don't exactly know why we have titles for our grades once you reach high school. It goes Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior. Then when you go to college it starts over again...basically being a Junior or Senior means you're an upperclassmen which means more privileges...and respect possibly.

Yeah, I've lived in the same house, same town, and same state my entire life.:indiff: Except for I'm a Freshman at college now, so I'm outta the house and in the dorms now..wooooo!

  10. aw thanks *is blushing* you're a sweetheart:happy:

what grade are you in in school? And have you lived in Liverpool you're whole life?

  11. I'm from Minnesota in the U.S. and yes, I prolong my O's and A's when I speak...can't help it:$

  12. oh i'm alright, how about yourself? where are you from?

  13. hey there, thanks for the add:)

  14. you said you could help me figure out how to play guitar if i'd need help? lol that would be awesome but how would that work!?

  15. Haha I love that interview when he says that, the interviewer is so confused..

    "It's just a long word...difficult to say"

Well I'm a student so I'm just taking basic classes in psychology for now...so nothing exciting :(

But I hope to be a clinic or counseling psychologist possibly in rehab and drug abuse?
