How far did you ejaculate?
Its slowly converting me to chorus on guitar, so I'm not happy with it at all.
-
Finally got to the use the RE501 with the Super Bass.
-
Gain is just the ratio of input to output, it really doesn't have any bearing on volume, unless you have infinite headroom.
Precisely.
-
Then there are the JCM 800s which have the preamp gain (probably the best name) labeled as "preamp volume", with the master volume as well.
It was far less confusing with the Orange amps as they gave you pictures to go by as well... plus you know they're serious when the boost control is labeled with a fist.
Actually that makes more sense than using Gain & Volume.
-
I saw this today and thought of haze015.
Because... what if your amp is non-master volume?
But gain is 'volume'?
Silly guitarists.

Yeah, you could get an MBC-1, DSL15C, whammy, DL4 and a fuzz factory pedal for the same money for OOS sort of sound. Would be interesting to see what they would choose in those videos if it wasn't limited to what Andertons has in stock.
Any guitar with Hot Rails/Motherbuckers would be fine if keeping costs down and as Jaicen said, swap the DL4 for an Echo Park and whatever budget is left over, go the as close to a DSL50 as you can get.
-
In a way, I'm glad they didn't go directly for the fuzz factory and say it's Muse in a box.
They only go for what the shop sells. But really should have gone for the OOS sound/setup, as its all pointless overkill from then on.
-
So what kind of finish is it then exactly? Looking up aluminum strats on the interwebz only digs up strats with the shiny reflective aluminum finishes.
And jesus they didn't exactly do a great job with trying to sound like MB. With a £1500 budget they could have just gotten an HD500X, a DSL40c and the MBC1. I guess you'd just have to be inside that room with them just like they said to fully hear what it sounds like, but otherwise, it sound's pretty poor.
They never seem to be all that knowledgeable regarding what bands actually use, considering the amounts of information out there you'd think they at least do a bit of research beforehand.

Anyone after the Exogenesis 12"? Might be up for parting with mine

Tried the metal zone today.
It definitely has that digital (?) sound as someone said, but with a strat and 1959, it's pretty close to what's in that video. Took a bit of time messing with the two volume controls though... more than it did dialing in the actual pedal
Also tried it with an OR120, and it sounded completely different, so I think the rest of the setup matters a lot.
I called it "transistory".
But yeah, you can definitely hear its a Metal Zone in that video. Real shame I never got to try it with the Super Bass.

Well... if there were people that didn't know about this, they do now.
If he has control over the photos, why did he let them get become public in the first place?
All the entitled pricks commenting are just ridiculous though.
-
They were? I could certainly imagine the offset Fenders associated with surf, but Strats... not so much. Maybe because they're now used for pretty much everything like you say.
Probably bit of an exaggeration, but yeah, very closely associated with the genre.
-
Strats are amazing to be honest but only really for what suits them. Personally I'd love one for playing stuff like the 1975 or John Mayer (and Biffy of course ) but they're so pricey in Aus.
Errrr they are used for pretty much everything. When Hendrix was using them they were regarded as a "surf guitar" and only good for that...
-
That's true. The paint on the necks were sloppy on the ones I didn't like. Ones I liked felt really good though. I'm a big fan of the satin maple neck.
Liked the maple fretboards more than rosewood too, simply because Guitar Center doesn't oil their fretboards and all the rosewood boards were so damn dry
Forgot the new USA's have a different finish on the neck to my ones. Both of mine are maple as well, just think they look better more than anything.
-
So I went to Guitar Center earlier today and played with a bunch of Strats. I love how light they are (*lighter* than LP's is what I meant)
The new American Elite Strat is really nice. Some of the American Standard ones I played with were pretty sloppily made though. Same thing with the MIM ones - some nice, some downright embarrassing. Worst guitar was the Eric Clapton strat - I loved the V neck but the Fender sticker made it look like a cheap Chinese fake >">
In any case, I want a Strat. The American Elite ones are pretty pricey though - for that money I think I should just buy a body and a Warmoth neck and put it together myself. Shouldn't be that hard, right?
Never come across badly made MIA or MIM's, just most need a setup, which a lot of shops won't do.
Look at getting a Fender though, better in the long term.
-
Alright, since I'm already asking... how does a Strat sound?
I know it's a crazy noob question, but I've never been able to tell the distinctive sound of anything other than a really twangy tele
Like a thinner sounding Tele. David Gilmour's sound is probably about as stereotypically "Strat" as it gets:
-
Which video are you using for reference?
I still don't believe for a second that the Bliss note has been raised an entire octave. Since you're already messing with the software, you're welcome to show me how you would do it and still have it sound remotely believable. You can of course use an acapella track.
It wasn't moved up an octave*, they messed with the timing and tided it up pitch wise or just replaced with another recording, but even creates problems.
If you've got access to high quality recordings of the microphone prior to any effects, then I'd be happy to give it a go, otherwise its a pointless task to expect to get the same results. Distortion, especially with the high end softened a bit can be enough to hide it. Post-distortion processing would emphasise it.
*As shown here:

It's just the last note we're talking about. I remember it being a big deal when the proshot was released back in...2011? Haven't listened to it since then though.
Nah, you can hear him bend into the note at the start, then it wavers around, then there's the vibrato. Like I said, I can sort of change it in Melodyne, but its not great with full songs. It was just that last note I tried as well, just doesn't detect the whole thing, then crashes when I try getting it to so I can edit it to a static held note.
Bliss at Live 8 is a blatant example though.
-
Yeah, check my edit.
These days they've even started doing it live at the gigs.
Nah, that's not pitch corrected as its all over the place (Well still could be, as anything could, but not a great example). Can sort of correct it using Melodyne, but it doesn't want to detect the whole note without crashing.
-
Just bought one for $30.
I'm curious about how Simon Niel is running his 1959 though. Guessing he's just adding a tiny bit of brightness with the first channel, and has the second channel turned up quite a bit more... otherwise it would sound pretty horrible with a metal zone.
Yeah, there's a more going on there than just the pedal. Never got to try it through the Super Bass, so can't give you any pointers there.
Didn't watch the whole video, but doesn't he use multiple amps?
-
LOL how do you play the crutches
"How has your opinion of Gemsy changed?" It hasn't, she's still a massive cnut
-
I see what you mean. Have you got one then? I haven't tried one in years, but I'm sure it was with humbuckers rather than single coils
and yeah, saw one for $30 shipped, so it's probably worth trying.
Had one for a bit, I think I ended up selling it for more than I paid for it!
-
Yeah true!
and nah, just the OC-2 now (which can be yours for $55 including postage!)
Mine is SSS, but they're really high output, and don't really sound like single coils. Way too much lower midrange.
Lower mids are easy to dial out on the Metal Zone. I think the EQ might be before gain, too much bass causes it to clip more anyway, might not have the headroom after though!
They go cheap as balls second hand, so worth a go, just don't put the mid freq above 12'o'clock and don't push any of the other controls far from that and its not the worst thing in the world. The issue is getting rid of the Boss transistoryness.

Because Map Of Your Head doesn't have reggae influences, right? And the first part of Take A Bow isn't techno at all, right? Not sure if...what...nevermind

They'll have something similar and will pay royalties for what they play. How it all works varies by country so not able to say for certain how it works in the USA.
"Fair use" laws will be more for educational purposes and will not apply to commercial uses, such as radio, being "non-profit" doesn't get around copyright laws either. So these radio stations will be paying.
Not that simple in reality. Also nothing to do with who likes the music but how they are using the music.
