  1. Well, I'm not an expert, so I don't know the difference between phaser and flanger (I mean, the difference in term of physics), but I'm pretty sure the flanger is more than an agressive phase effect. For me it's just completely different.

I'm still sure it's not a phaser but a flanger, but again I may be wrong :D

They do work differently, bit unfair to describe one as more aggressive than the other. Flangers use delay and phasers use filters.

I'd go with phaser with a lot of feedback blended with the original signal rather than flanging, which would sound more "aeroplane"-esque in comparison.

  2. Synth + pedals?

A Doepfer Dark Energy synthesiser and a Vermona DRM1 drum module currently.

The pedals (Still undecided and a DOD FX90 in the post, which will be going straight in): Boss DD3, Boss DM2, Boss BF2, EHX Small Stone, EHX DMM, Marshall Shredmaster, Frantone Sweet, Effector 13 Torn's Peaker, Catalinbread Semaphore.

This is hooked up using the patch bay (Basically allows me to change effect chains for the synths and guitar, which I'll just use Amplitube 3 or Softube VAR for, as I don't play enough to require an amp) and there is a M-Audio Profire 610 for the laptop.

Still got plenty of space for more effects and synths. :D

  3. Man, I want one of those like you wouldn't believe. Is it as good as I think it is?

Only flaws I can find with it is the lack of detune controls for the VCOs and the ENV could do with longer times.

Personally wouldn't have considered one before as I don't exactly need a keyboard, but I really want my own now! Also got a Doepfer Dark Energy, so you imagine all the patching capabilities there, which pretty much solve those two complaints I have with it. :D

The best budget synth on the market at the moment. Did get to have a play on a Moog Sub Phatty recently… So dull, got to feel sorry for anyone who buys one of those.

  4. To be honest if i lost my job and had to sell my guitars i would be going for the highest offer

If you've lost your job, then could you afford to hold out to be able to get the highest offer possible?

If someone was selling an item they didn't need and had no financial issues, they would be in a far better position to hold out as long as possible for someone to give them the price they wanted. If someone has financial issues, then they have to sell it at some point, so might as well hold out until they get desperate. ;)

  5. Two kinds of people in this situation. Ones that want it new, and will be patient on the waiting list, and ones that want it now, and will pay the money to get it now.

Look at all the people that are selling PS4's for double the shelf price simply because they are hard to come by right now, yet in a few months time they will be a lot easier to find.

Not quite the same scenario. With the PS4, people are buying to be amongst the first to have one and also there is a huge amount of hype surrounding it at the moment, contributing to an increase in demand.

By comparison to the MB-1, it is much more affordable and far less of a niche product, so with the lack of supply to cope with demand, drives up the resale value. And yes, it will be a short lived thing once supply matches demand, resale value is as much about timing as it is about the product itself.

  6. Also, your theory that a used guitar is worth less than it's retail price is ridiculous.

Unless we're talking vintage guitars, then it is not ridiculous. Selling a new guitar second hand, the only way it will be worth more is if the demand for it is far greater than supply. While the MB-1 is rare, it is also an extremely niche guitar, new it is highly priced and it's features require further purchases of equipment to utilise them.

The people with the kind of money to buy one will more than likely want a brand new one and more than likely already own other guitars, so the need to have one now won't exist.

If Manson chose to stop production, the value would skyrocket.

Also in regards to shop bought guitars, I've seen USA Fenders going for the same or higher than retail in the UK as the price of them has jumped up so much. Even taking into consideration inflation, no one who bought the old generation of USA Fenders isn't doing too bad with second hand value.

  7. you can't see a problem with scalping a limited edition guitar? not that this situation is scalping as he was intending on keeping it but situations screwed him over (seen this far too many times which saddens me)

    BUT

are you saying you don't see it as a problem if 25 people went and bought the guitars, got on the list blah blah and upon receiving it they put it on ebay for sale immediately. That's ok? Basically scalping can be a massive problem like it did with the iPhone 5s. Fortunately we don't have scalpers for guitars, otherwise they'd be more beefs

    Anti-capitalism in K&T.

  8. I have no clue what the value of the guitar is at this point as there is no data to go on...where would I find the price for an MB-1 on the after-market? I just assumed it is worth quite a bit because of its rarity.

Speak to James90 as I think he has sold one before, there may be others who have.

Typically this wouldn't be something you can buy and then sell after a short period of time for a profit. If Mansons went bust or they decided to never build any more, then you'd have reason to sell at a higher price.

  9. My bass player has just ordered a boss oc3 and os3 so that will be a start.

So haze you reckon he should get a ls and have clean signal through his normal amp and then send another lead to his effects and in to a guitar amp?

There might be less expensive options than the LS2, might be better to look at those and put money towards a good compressor for the clean signal.

The problem with running through the same amp and blending in a clean signal is that bass amps are usually pretty limited in their frequency range and never quite sounds as big as it could do to me, just seems to always end up with a bit of fizz to a clean bass and this method, what you end up with is a deep low end and what sounds like a huge downtuned guitar and then your guitar.

  10. Setting up another cab would only add to the chances of having phase-cancellation which would diminish your sound.

All cabs with multiple speakers will have phase issues, reflections from the room will mess with phase and it all varies based on your position.

But yeah, setting up more amps with different sounds for either the bass or guitar will fill out the sound, doesn't necessarily have to be the bass.

  11. I think I'm getting closer to Matt's live tone. But I don't know, maybe you guys can give me tips/just tell me how it sounds to you.

I tried combining vox ac30 and bogner sims (bit similar to diezel that matt used), ac30 and marshall plexi sims, and plexi and bogner sims.

    :)

Sounds like too much mids in all of them as everything sounds a bit too boxy, a little light on low end and if you're blending amps, they do need to be tonally different, otherwise there is little point in it. Hated the phaser.

No idea what the live sound for Hyper Music is like, but to get the studio sound, you need less gain than what you are using, less mids and more treble.

Nothing to do with Matt's live sound, but try like an ultra mid-rangey Plexi sound will little to no bass or treble, then add in a scooped metal sound to fill in the sound.

  12. The only Japanese Strat I've played was great, but it had different pickups to stock, so can't comment on how it sounds normally.

The 50's and 60's reissues Strats are also great guitars, never bother with the Mexican Standard Strats.

Generally never found the whole consistency thing to be true with Fenders, might get some in the shop that are poorly setup, but that hardly represents the quality of the guitars. Get any USA Standard and get it to a guy who knows how to set them up and you won't regret it.

Edit - Not played the recent USA Strats though since they last changed them.

  13. are you going to post the tune with the drills? DO IT!

Never bothered to finish it, will probably get around to it at some point. Hated trying to tune a drill to try and make it fit traditional harmony.

One of the 3SC Eps had a constant ambiant noise track throughout recorded from my bedroom window.

  14. Anyone doing electronic music today would be dabbling in music concrete.

I did try working on a tune which was all done with samples of drilling which I'd made for a noise complaint.

Oh and to be a pretentious snobby bastard. Stockhausen is technically not music concrete.
