Neil.
bad times. that's not a fun thing to have. i'm guessing thats something to do with the strings being real thick??
cheddatom
it's mainly to do with bad technique. I think a lot of players wind up resting their arm on the top of the bass and that type of thing. You're supposed to keep your wrist straight (I think) but lots of people have it like this: or
Neil.
so then for good technique, is that why some bass players have it down beyond their crotchal regions, so it's easier to keep your wrist straight?
cheddatom
hmmm, I dunno, i'm no expert. Normally when people have it rediculously low I assume it's for image. But yeh, I used to have it high up like that hot 'fro bitch and now my wrist is fucked.
Ekinox
hmm, strange, i've had lessons, and i had to put my wrist pretty much like that girl, never really had wristproblems either.. Her elbow might be a bit too low tho, if you raise your elbow a bit, there's less tension in your fingers Second example is i think definitely wrong (you can also see here, he doesn't move his fingers from the 3rd knuckle, wich is, as i said, the way it should be ) the way i play, my thumb rests on the left pick up, and my index and middle finger are actually more to the right of my thumb, not directly below it. Ideally, the most left-part of my fingertips should touch the strings, but my technique is a bit flawed, so it's actually the very top of my fingers that do the work. cheddatom
well her arm is fairly straight in one sense, so you could be right. If you've had lessons, you're probably OK. I just twatted the fuck out of my bass for 6 years and 100 gigs then wondered why my hand permanently hurt.

cheddatom
Yeh don't be afraid to put your back into it. Use your palm as well as your fingers and put some effort it - it's like a good hard fucking (apparently).
