I'm gonna need way more listens to make a judgment, but the first half of the album is ace. These are just first impressions of course. Could easily change:
Dead Inside 8/10-Fantastic vocals and keeps growing on me surprisingly. Classic at this point.
Psycho 7/10-Is a bit longer than it needs to be but it's so punchy and in your face that it's forgivable. That riff is the new Plug in Baby.
Mercy 7/10- A very straightforward song, a lot like Starlight but way better in my opinion.
Reapers 10/10- One of my favorite songs they've ever done, immense energy and incredible guitar. The chorus is catchy, the solo is fun to listen to and the outro is probably the heaviest thing they've ever recorded.
The Handler 9.5/10- Another great rocker. Recalls to the Absolution days and the reigning falsettos are really at show here.
(the rest of the songs are based off a single listen so to be taken with a grain of salt)
Defector 8.5/10- Heavy rocker that harkens back to Dragon Attack by Queen. The solo is one of the greatest they've done, the riff is a headbanger. Lyrics are a bit cheesy but I think it suits the song.
Revolt 4/10-Super generic song. Reminds me of American Pie. It's not the worst thing i've ever heard but....I probably wont listen to it again.
Aftermath 8/10- I love it. Matt's never sung a song in this fashion before and he plays it off so well. A solemn track with some awesome guitar work. Reminds me like a mix of Dark Side of the Moon and Achtung Baby style ballads.
The Globalist 7.5/10-Super disappointing, I felt like I would have loved it if it wasn't hyped as much as it was. The beginning is great, the heavy middle section is one of my favorite things on the album. Then it all goes wrong with the final 3 minutes, it's not bad at all but it just gets built up into USOE part 2. It's like if you're having sex with Scarlett Johansson and the foreplay goes all well, then you get naked and have 2 minutes of the most incredible sex you've ever had, and just as you're about to climax she hops off and transforms into that one ex you had 5 years ago that you never really liked but stayed with because you were comfortable with her, and she passes out immediately. Great song on it's own, but way overhyped.
Drones 6/10-I actually found it pretty interesting but I doubt i'll be listening to it often.
My album rankings:
Absolution
OOS
BHAR
Resistance/Drones
Showbiz
T2L

Yeah... It might grow. But it's very odd.
Not as bad as Aftermath.
I love Aftermath.

Man, come on Globalist. That instagram clip should have been utilized way more. The first section was great and middle section was astonishing. Then they go out and and re-do USOE.
-
Reminds me of something I would have seen in the American Pie movies. It's pretty generic but it's not as bad as everyone makes it out to be.
-
That solo is one of the best they've ever done. Gorgeous.

My nipples have never been this hard before, and I was born in Russia.

4 and a half stars. Every single review has been shittily written though, I've learned nothing about the songs in any of them.

Poor Chris. Everyone overlooks his bass work on Mercy for this. The only standout player so far on the album has been Chris. He has literally made every track. This is his time to shine, more so than ever. Every bassline has been flawless.
Chris always delivers though.

Argh I can't sleep and just woke up to more puns. I was just dreaming that it leaked and Kueller linked to part 3 of The Globalist, which was Matt doing reggae for some reason.
He did it on Muscle Museum live for a few seconds, didn't sound bad.

I love the "Behold my transformation" line. The way he delivers the line with the effects makes it seem so sinister. Like some evil twin brother in a Broadway show that sold his soul to the devil.

Do you guys just download anything without thinking twice?
Times are tough.

It's fake. Funny though

Mine just finished. IT'S THE FINAL COUNTDOWN

Said exactly the same thing a few pages ago .
Root Of All Evil.
YES! Great call!

It sounds a lot like something Dream Theater would do back in the Octavarium days(which was inspired by Absolution anyway).
Great song, Reapers might just edge it out for me on the record so far though.

How about everyone go watch another movie.
I took a nap.

I sincerely hope this isn't how they're going to unveil the album. Really kind of gets in the way of the concept idea, doesn't it? They made a big deal in interviews how albums don't matter anymore and now they're making everything singles?
-
I don't know why but I like the chorus vocals in the studio version far more than live.
Totally agree, I think it's because it sounds less 80s rock and more robotic. Fits the song more.

I didn't like TR at first but when T2L came out it helped me appreciate it. I realised I was giving it a hard time. MK Ultra is amazing and USoE is so much fun!
Reapers is completely different, though. It's on a whole other level! It's like the good bits of recent Muse mixed with the raw heaviness of their old sound. Love it.
Yeah, in hindsight TR wasn't half bad. I can still listen to the album and enjoy it all the way through, unlike the T2L. I can listen to Panic Station, IS and Animals out of context but as an album I can barely finish it.

Haha omg this one is even better! https://twitter.com/realpaullewis/status/604423971426172928
Huh, that Muse guy eh?

That piano song, good lord it's so sad.

Cancel your pre-order then pre-order again. Worked for me.

Unless they wanted some Mercy style clipping, you can't really fit in anymore punch.

I get chills as soon as Matt start singing.
