  1. I've never really noticed that before but now that you mention it I do hear it. It doesn't really bother me. The thing I do like is that he stopped doing the overly dramatic and breathy delivery around BH&R so tbf I actually like the way he sings now better
  2. I think at this point we can all fairly judge the album. I've only listened to it a few times since it came out and decided not to do so for a while. I listened through it twice today and while I like it, it just feels really awkward. There's something weird about this album and I can't quite pinpoint what it is.
  3. I can definitely see what you mean there. I don't necessarily agree that their music is better from album to album but their songwriting certainly is. The song structures on TR and T2L are much more interesting and varied that the ones on OoS or Absolution. Even if you think the musical ideas themselves were better in the early days, I do think it's clear that they're better at organizing their ideas nowadays. Psycho aside, I think Drones is also a great example of this.
  4. I agree on your Aftermath > The Globalist and Overture > CP I think the transition from TaB > Starlight is just about the weirdest album transition I've ever heard. It's just very sudden idk. I just don't like it
  5. Name the album track transitions that you thought did/didn't work. The tracks don't have to go directly into each other. It can be just two tracks or a whole series of tracks that work together (don't be that guy who says the entirety of OoS) Bonus question: Do you think Muse is good at ordering track listings or not? Example: Good: FAWY -> Interlude -> Hysteria Screenager -> Darkshines City of Delusion -> Hoodoo -> Knights of Cydonia Bad: TaB -> Starlight SFA -> SS -> FAWY Post away!

  7. A lot of other people feel similarly to me. I think it's s fantastic album with some real growers (namely Revolt) For the review: Dead Inside: 9/10 Couldn't stop smiling like an idiot the first time I heard this. The vocal delivery is some of the most emotional since SfA. The great thing about it is that the delivery is very believable while not being overdone like Darkshines or DS (just imo of course). Very catchy song Psycho: 5.5/10 Technically I like more than I dislike in this track but I really can't stand the drill sergeant or the lyrics. The instrumental is great, especially Chris's bass part. Matt's vocals are great but the drum part is pretty boring. Mercy: 7.5/10 I actually really like this track. It's a little uninspired but it's quite pretty. Multiple listens have worn it out for me however. Not much staying power. Reapers: 8/10 Fantastic track! Guitar is really cool but the solo is odd though. It sounds like a clichè 80's solo juxtaposed with a Muse one. I still like it. Vocals, drums and bass are awesome as well. Killed by DRONES! I actually like the lyrics lol The Handler: 9.5/10 Another great song. I like the lyrics once again. Matt's falsetto is so awesome. The solo section is too long which stops it from being a 10 but I love the Showbiz reprise and the vocals near the end. Christopher Wolstenholme is a boss. Defector: 8.5/10 I love the Queen vocals. I always have. USoE all the way haha. The solo is truly very good and the song is just a really fun listen, which is what I've learned to expect from modern Muse. Not too serious, but fun. Revolt: 6/10 Quite the grower. I wasn't sure I liked it at first and it still strikes me as rather weak. It's got a great chorus though and it's interesting to hear Muse do happy instead of sad and bleak. Very anti-Absolution if you will. Aftermath: 9/10 Love it. Always loved it. It's so pretty. Once again, good lyrics. Not much more to say. The Globalist: 10/10 Perfect song. Awesome lyrics. Awesome vocals, guitar, bass and drums. It builds up so well and I don't think the heavy part into the piano part is jarring in the least bit. I also love USoE and Explorers so I'm a bit biased. Drones: 7.5/10 Good track. Very different but I'm a fan of a Capella style vocals so this had immediate appeal. I also think it's a good closer. Only real gripe is that it's a little long but fine other than that. Overall this album will sit comfortably at 3rd and may even move up to 2nd. Current rankings: 1. Absolution 2. BH&R 3. Drones 4. TR 5. OoS 6. T2L 7. Showbiz
  8. I agree. It'd be nice if the heavy part went a little longer. We all know that. But I think the transition into the piano part is great. This is truly a piece they went all out on. I love it.
  9. Haha I voted Guiding Light. I love that stupid solo!

  11. I definitely agree. As a better example for The Handler, a lot of Bach's works involve a constant 16th note run above a chord progression in the bass. The bass part in the prechorus is very mobile which is quite Bach as well. Of course there's elements of modern music in there too. They're still a rock band.
  12. It's everything in his writing. It's in his approach to vocal melodies and his arrangements. His chord progressions are classically influenced and predictable (not that that's a bad thing). Also in regard to the Philip Glass thing that's very true. Glass is a minimalist composer and they try and use just a few musical elements that are repeated a lot (see Hysteria, Endlessly)
  13. One thing that I think people really like about this record is that it sounds like more influence was taken from classical/romantic era composers, namely The Handler. That IYW solo section is very classically influenced. This is also why the most loved songs from TR are MK Ultra and Exogenesis and why OoS and Abso are the most loved albums. They're basically classical music played with a modern 3 piece band. Most of TR & T2L is not classically oriented which is where I think the hate comes from. Their influence comes from other places. T2L especially is very different from the other's in that sense. Anyway that's what I think it is. I'm a big TR fan but I know exactly what about it people don't like. Drones is great though and I'm starting to think it might be better than TR.
  14. I think Darkshines is one of the worst Muse songs in existence. Terrible chorus... But for songs I defend Explorers and Soldier's Peom all day. I'm a sucker for ballads.
  15. I love the track. I don't think the transition from the heavy part to the piano bit is jarring at all. It'd be kinda cool if the guitar had gone on longer but I'm glad there were no lyrics. Matt does vague pretty well but when he gets all specific about events I think they're bad so A+ on not having lyrics lol
