  1. I just hope they bring back old songs that fit this era. Map is the most obvious choice. I think Endlessly would be terrific too, it¡¯s got that slightly electronic vibe but it¡¯s also very paired back and emotive, the sort of vibe I feel Matt is going for with ST. Bliss is another good option. I¡¯d throw Sing For Absolution, Soldiers Poem, Undisclosed Desires (ya rly), MK Ultra and Dead Inside out there too.

Just imagine a TDS-MOTP-Bliss combo within a single gig. :awesome:

EDIT: Why not FAWY, too? Or Cave, or IBTY, Shrinking Universe, The Gallery...

Panic Station and Follow Me would probably go down well too although I'm not a fan of the latter

Pressure and PS back-to-back = ACE.

They feature horns in both of them and are even in the same key.

  2. But by not being a fan doesn't mean we hate them, or we're jealous of them.

That's what InfiniteBlackSkies doesn't seem to get.

EDIT: I was replying to Jobby, but forgot to quote.

EDIT 2: Oh, and he's already specified what I said, so...

  3. Now can we please focus on the kind of speculation that's important!

What notes will Matt hit? Which song will have the highest/lowest notes and how high/low will they be?

I bet Algorithm will lack in high chest but have some falsetto around D5/Eb5.

Propaganda won't have anything interesting range wise except for low backing vocals which people will argue back and forth about who they belong to.

The Void will have belted G#4s.

    No, the true questions are...

Is there really a fucking didjeridoo in Propaganda?

If the answer is yes, who's playing it? Did they manage to play multiple takes in a row without fainting or did they take some pauses in between?

Lol on the Instagram picture they just posted saying the album out on Friday November 9th the algorithm squad commented ¡°Thursday.¡± And it¡¯s already been deleted

The entire post or just the comment alone?

  4. I got that but I was the one who brought it up, and I did in fact include Drones songs so.

Also we haven't even had a 4 minute song from ST yet.

    That's true, my bad.

Speaking of which, it shocks me to see how Blockades is only 3:50. I expected it to be one of longest within the four-to-five minute range, lol.

It's more that I'm worried that it's just gonna be a let down, with all these lovely things being said about it. Interesting that Algorithm isn't that long either, thought the radio guy said that Algorithm almost reaches 5.

Maybe it felt longer to him because of the presence of twists and turns within its running time. Which excites me, but I know it certainly won't be like that.

Nah you’re thinking of Shine Acoustic which is over 5

I'm an incredible sucker for the "acquatic" baroque-like synths and the increasing intensity and speed in the three-minute version.

  5. Well I would say it goes for Thought Contagion, Pressure, Psycho, The Globalist, Aftermath and even The Handler to an extent. I know there are plenty more that are over 4 minutes, please don't take me literally.

Most of those tracks are from Drones, in fact. I was rather talking about ST ones.

  6. And we should all be thankful because they can't even seem to write 4 minute tracks atm without getting repetitive.

I can agree about this if we're talking about songs like TC, and to a way smaller extent Pressure, but frankly not the rest.

EDIT: Also, let's not fuss too much about track lengths. A song like Shine clocks at barely past three minutes, yet it's one of their best songs ever.

  7. I like the riff in Psycho but the repeat use of it interchanging with a beat like that of Uprising doesn't make it a strong essential IMO. Good fun live though.

As the opener in a live setting, I agree it's a banger. When I saw them in Milan I just couldn't help but jumping and throwing pumping fists to the sky in the heat of the moment. Maybe it's also because it was the first time I went to a gig of theirs, but the moment when Matt started the riff after Drones I literally felt an adrenaline rush through my veins! :chuckle:

  8. “More original and creative” there’s nothing wrong with Psycho as is

I wasn't saying there's something wrong with Psycho.

But personally speaking, after more than three years and a half I can say that I find it a bit repetitive and not very special. I still really enjoy it as a full out rocking tune, but it doesn't feel fresh for their standards, unlike a good part of the ST songs we have so far.

  9. I wouldn't mind.

Me neither, but I'd also be a little afraid after what they've done with the 0305030 riff in Psycho.

But in the Q review they put it as a highlight of ST, so... this time they might have actually done something more original and creative with a past riff.

  10. You know, I was thinking about what the German RS review said about Break It To Me having oriental sounding melodies or similar...

Since it seems it's going to be quite rockish while being R'n'B-tinged ("RATM's clang", says the Q review), what if the oriental melody is the Vuilstamen Riff?

  11. I think Drones actually got higher ratings but we're talking different reviewers here - I just think the whole "back to basics" was a tad overhyped.Still, we've only had 2 reviews and both of them have been above average scores, along with positive sentiments so I guess the overall rating so far is "pretty decent" and MUSE haven't gone and destroyed their career

Drones got stunning reviews (Kerrang even gave it full score!), yes, but just a small bunch.

To this day, it's the album of theirs with the lowest avarage score on Metacritic (63).

And I feel this album may get a better critical reception than Drones, too. The two reviews we have so far are quite down-to-earth in tone, not overenthusiastic or totally bashing, and the fact they gave ST an overall positive verdict hypes me even further.

  12. WAKE UP! A review has dropped! 3 Stars!

    NOTABLE POINTS

Algorithm - "Daft Punk's Tron" , "A fusion of dramatic strings and industrial electro"

Break It To Me "Rage Against the Machine clang with Missy Eliot style beats"

The Void "over the top" "blend of Bellamy's call to arms vocals" "classical piano and ominous sc-fi soundscape"

Get Up And Fight "aims to be pop" but ends up sounding like a rock track???

    THE VOID HYPE??

    Yeah, definitely hyped as hell.

Votes mean nothing for now to me.

  13. Just listened back to all the ST songs so far and I'm back to thinking it's going to be Muse's joint-worst album along with T2L. So far as I'm concerned, I wouldn't care if I never heard TC or DD ever again.

TDS is fine, but only fine. SH is far too saccharine for me and Pressure is just bland and repetitive. I'm pinning my hopes of redemption on Algorithm, The Void and, weirdly, Propaganda from what we've heard.

I respectfully disagree about that. While it's gonna be quite poppish, I have a feeling it will sound solid and tight when listened to front-to-back. Coupled with the fact the lyrics doesn't seem to have vapid and repetitive concepts shoe-horned in (I'm looking at ya, Drones) and so far the tracks have been quite honest and spontaneous (at least to me) in their sound direction, I think it's going to be very good in its own genre.

I also think TC might be the weakest track of the whole lot, after all. Regarding SH, imho, tracks like Aftermath and Revolt are waaay more saccharine. And cheesier, too. Heck, I can't even remember the last time I listened to Aftermath

  14. Fair point - everyone's going to define things in their own way.

Tough to know whether they mean guitar-y as in riff based songs like an Agitated or an Assassin, or just songs with guitar featuring in them.

I'm sure it's the first one. That means that ST won't be riff-based at the same level of Drones, which is something we somewhat already knew.

  15.

“Nothing like 6 or 7 minutes no. From memory, maybe Algorithm pushes 5? But all around 4. The extended edition of the album is, said Matt, odder... Glad you liked the piece”

From the journalist who wrote the article. So Algorithm is the longest.

Let's not jump to conclusions, though. From the journalist's tone, it seems he can't recall precisely if Algorithm is the only five-minute song, so there might be another one at least.

Anyway... Dangerously hyped for that damn track, now. I hope it won't disappoint me. :D

  16. ....how so? We didn’t (and still don’t) know anything about it :p

I’m not sure that was referring specifically to GUAF, more giving a general example of ST songs’ tones compared to Drones. If it’d been worded as ‘one song is military disco rock, the other a lot like Prince’ as opposed to ‘another a lot like Prince’, then it’d suggest it was about those two songs but the ‘another’ implies it’s two random songs imo. Plus, if it did mean those two, I’m not sure which of those descriptions would fit TDS :chuckle:

Uh, I'm quite sure the writer is still referring to ST songs, and not drawing a comparison between Drones and ST ones. Otherwise he/she would have mentioned a Drones track, wouldn't he/she?
