What a show! I was expecting The Handler and maybe one of Dead Star/Micro Cuts etc but to get Dead Star, Citizen Erased, Agitated AND Micro Cuts is something else. I'm also surprised at how good Mercy sounds live
-
where did Dom mention Dead Star?
-
Every time Aftermath comes on I listen to it until the chorus then I skip it. Such wasted potential
-
I think musically the album is fantastic (maybe apart from the chorus/outro of Aftermath) and Dead Inside through to Defector is some of Muse's best work. However after enjoying Revolt and Aftermath originally the bluntness of Matt's lyrics edges the songs just over the edge of musical theater territory and for me that spoils it, Aftermath gets way too christian rock singalong for me. I understand its a concept album but a little more subtlety in some of the lyrics and themes would go a long way. The Globalist is a fantastic contrast to Citizen Erased because it shows you exactly how the band has changed over the years, especially in the final section, as much as i'd love The Globalist to be a 10 minute 7 string "prog nightmare" that just isn't where Muse is musically anymore in my opinion. Drones is a bizarre way to end an album yet I always end up listening through it whenever I listen to The Globalist, I wish there was a proper closing track to this album, something like an instrumental Isolated System like track would be fantastic, with Drones then being a b-side of a hidden track.
All in all i think Drones is just below the "big 3" albums OoS, Absolution and BHaR but is easily their best release since BHaR 8/10
Fav tracks: Reapers, Dead Inside, The Handler
Least fav tracks: Aftermath, Mercy, Drones

the intro/first verse start so well and then as soon as Matt sings "from this moment" it gets far too christian rock optimism for me and it ruins the whole thing, and don't get me started on the ending
-
think of all the reddit karma he's getting though
-
Yeah, and my point is that they have never performed The Handler yet.
its from a soundcheck
-
I'm fairly positive Mercy is drop D too so if you include Psycho that's 5 Muse songs in a row that are Drop D tuning.
Dead Inside is Drop C!!
Basically it's technically the heaviest Muse album so far
Mercy is in standard
-
Hype levels have risen to stratospheric levels, The Handler is something else
-
that art doesn't fit with any of the drones art we've seen so far
-
on topic: why exactly would muse want to release both reapers and the handler when we already have 2 singles and psycho. They're giving away half of their album

JJ must be wounded

He's been a regular for a while, but people have mixed thoughts about the whole thing. And he hasn't said he won't upload it
Help me Alexander, you're my only hope
-
Does anyone actually know this guy? or is it going to be a case of him saying "yeah i've got the album it's great i wont upload it though"
-
are the livestream and bbc3 feeds different? don't want to miss anything if they cut things for the tv

That last chorus contains so much emotion. I've listened to this song a dozens and dozens of times by now and every single time I get goosebumps, brilliant song.
this.
even though the chords are so samey and obvious the way Matt sings the last chorus makes it a great song. Otherwise it would probably just be another Madness, this seems to have so much more heart in it
-
the way he sings "chaaaaaaange the game" really grates on me
-
I don't know why but in the verse it sounds like there's autotune
-
reapers into starlight is one hell of a transition
-
thats more like it, reapers
-
this was always going to be a more "radio friendly" setlist. At this point i'll be surprised if they even play Reapers
-
Not to undermine you guys, but doesn't discussion of leaked albums/material when leaked explode across the board anyways? Also a bootleg from a gig doesn't necessarily strike me as "leaked" material either
I think it counts as leaked when the band specifically tried to stop people from taking phones into the venue for this exact reason
-
I think since the T2L law era they would decide what songs would be on the album before they would start recording hence no b sides.
-
Well a song from the 90s is 2nd and Psycho is 3rd so it's not all that impressive
Feeling Good is 9th
