^ I do see stations such as XFM as being specialist though, as they only play a narrow range of music genres. You're not likely to hear them playing Justin Bieber

Yeah, I see what you're saying. When I said more on the fringes, I didn't mean in a hipster underground way, I meant more that they weren't anywhere near the same mainstreamness (is that even a word?) as the likes of Beyonce and other artists that dominate the charts. Obviously they're huge and getting huger each year but people still don't know who they are and they're not played that much on mainstream radio, don't make that much of an impression on the mainstream charts. They're kind of relegated to the specialist radio stations/charts, the specialist categories at mainstream awards shows, specialist magazines aimed at guitarists etc

^Don't you think there are degrees of 'mainstream' though, rather than it being an all-or-nothing absolute? I mean, I'd says Britney or Beyonce were firmly planted right in the middle of the mainstream, whereas bands like Muse are more on the fringes of it, what with them not being household names among the general public. I still get blank looks when I mention Muse to someone who's not that knowledgeable about music. The same can't be said if I mention, say, Coldplay.

None of this is proof that Muse have made music to appease mainstream fans. I'm not really sure what your point is. The fact that they've become popular with people you disapprove of does not instantly make them sell-outs.

Yes, Faith No More are one of my favourite bands. They were the first band I saw live, waaaay back in 1987, before you were even born
I kind of lost touch with their music after Angel Dust but The Real Thing is one of my all time favourite albums

Before you write off Metallica completely, have a listen to And Justice For All. It's in a different class to Master of Puppets and their other early work. It's a masterpiece in my opinion.

Just listened to NSC for the first time in ages. What were they thinking, making that shit? Pfft, bedtime after a large dose of New Born to counteract the effects of NSC.

well, they do tend to. if your name was Chad I'd presume you were American, if it was Abdul I'd presume you were middle-eastern, if it was Lars I'd presume you weren't English. And so on. Simon's not a name I'd associate with anywhere but the UK/US but I'm probably wrong on that one. Enlighten me, oh wise one.
