I still think the most fruitful avenue would be a sustained, album-length crossover of their harder rock, electronic and poppier shades - Bliss, Recess, Shrinking Universe, Hysteria, Endlessly, FAWY, Take A Bow, Starlight, MOTP, Uprising, UD, MK Ultra, Isolated System, Dead Inside, Reapers, Algorithm, Break It To Me and so on. They clearly have an eye for this kind of crossover, where Depeche Mode meets RATM or post-OKC Radiohead meets synthpop. Etc.
This kind of post comes up in every between-era and maybe one day it'll actually happen so we can stop asking.
They always seem so close too, like all the songs mentioned, so it always gives up hope they'll flesh it out to its fullest next album but it always veers off.
-
I also feel like they covered the stuff we wanted to hear. I'm not sure which one they'll go for, or even in what style. I was definitely not expecting a retro album after Drones (or ever).
-
I've still been looking for bands that do what Showbiz was doing but I've never really found one with that kind of energy.
-
I've already spent so much money on travel recently it is physically painful to think of potentially having to spend more for an Origin of Muse tour.
-
I still have some love for the BH&R arenas (even if it had less props).
-
Really? I thought this production was amazing. Not Resistance level but way better than Drones.

Do you mean this?
I need to watch this! Thanks! I‘ve seen parts of gigs with that stage, it looked amazing!Â
This was the venue but the one I really looked at was the second night. This video is from the first night. I do not know where to find the 2nd night on YouTube but I've seen it out there (it was takeabow19's edit). They were both fantastic shows but second night had the atmosphere I mentioned.

Dead Inside was SO good live in the early stages of the Drones tour. In fact, I'd say the highest points of the Drones tour were right up there with Muse's very best post-Absolution. Not a single moment of the ST tour has got remotely close to the Drones tour.

I warned peeps to appreciate the Drones era to it’s fullest ‘cos there’d almost defo be a comedown after. We’ll get there though, it’s still relatively young and you’d think they’ll wanna loosen up from this crazy rigidity eventually.
The thing with the tours, and having personally experienced this, is that ST's low points haven't gotten nearly as low as Drones'. With my own personal experience both the best and worst Muse shows I have personally seen were from the Drones tour. I don't know if I want that kind of gamble to be a regular thing.

I streamed Wembley 2010 again for /r/muse. It's such a fantastic show I haven't seen the footage in years. Even from the now dated DVD quality multi-cam the atmosphere still comes across strong.
And it's a real shame there was never a full concert release of that date because it's a beautiful looking show. The stage may have been impractical for the audience but it did wonders for the camera.

How does one acquire such optimism?

Speaking of rarities and whatnot, I got curious so I crunched some numbers from the last 9 years and here are the odds for what's most likely to make a return in 2018:
Â
Â
Reveal hidden contents- Working under the definition of a song's 'return' as being gone for at least 3 years before coming back.
Â
- Most popular records/eras for returns: Origin (13), Showbiz (9), Absolution (7)
Â
- Most common no. of years passed before a song makes a return: 3 years (6), 8 years (5), 12 years (4)
Â
- Most popular year groups: 11-15 years (10), 6-10 years (8), 3-5 years (8)
Â
- Has the song made more than 1 comeback?
Â
- Does the song have fan backing/get requested?
Â
- Was the song on the Shepherd's Bush voting list?
Â
- The band have never brought back a song that's been gone for more than 15 years so anything else that was last played in 2002 or before ain't counted.
Â
Â
Likelihood: Strong | Decent | Slight | Weak (
)
Â
Uno, Cave | Space Dementia, Megalomania, Ruled By Secrecy, Unintended, Forced In, Can't Take My Eyes Off You, MK Ultra, Unnatural Selection, Animals, Guiding Light, Soldier's Poem, Invincible, City Of Delusion, Unsustainable | The Small Print, Thoughts Of A Dying Atheist, Exo-Politics, Hoodoo, Falling Down, Overture, Man Of Mystery, Neutron Star Collision, Popcorn, Explorers | Darkshines, Screenager, Eternally Missed, I Belong To You, Liquid State, Sign O' The Times, Lithium, Crying Shame, Do We Need This, Nature_1, Map Of Your Head, Falling Away With You, Redemption, Aftermath, Save Me
Â
Muse average around 4 song returns a year, just as an fyi. Oh, and this is all obvs super factual.
lol we got Unsustainable.

I mean it's showy right? But it works as the sudden explosion of energy.

I agree but in a good way.
-
I've seen the solo regarded as just guitar wankery but just like New Born's live solo that's why I love it. And that last chorus is so.... huge.

As much as I would like to see them throw in Stockholm here and there to close I can accept Knights as the staple ending. The buildup to the riffage at the end is always an exciting time to be in the crowd and let out all your remaining energy.
It's just sad it went through more changes, both in its intro but also its style, from 2006-2008 than from 2008-now.
-
I never had an issue with it as a song, or even as a closer. I have fond memories of how epic it felt in The Resistance Tour. It's just become predictable. Even more so when they can do other closers or at least mix up how they perform Knights.
I've seen several others with the same stance.
-
It's unfortunate cause I've not liked the look of the daylight shows for this setup.

Well I was more wondering if it was something similar sounding we could point to (I've not heard the song).
-
What year?
-
This is really shaping to be their first proper South American tour since BH&R.

I totally called they were gonna drop the Dead Cuts part too but I figured it would only be for the United States not everywhere.
-
I just can't really see changes in the set after going this long with so few of them. It's unprecedented in their history.

Would recommend going as I reckon The Void and Blockades will be around by then

5 songs you want to see live at least once

If the sets continue to be this static I might as well lock in my list for good. At least I managed to get one song crossed off since posting it.
