although having just looked at both side by side, I'm going to put some brown around the edge, just to make it that touch darker

that's what I thought, but when I looked at the mockup it was like this. its not THAT red in person - its not quite as bright red. plus the clear coats will darken it a touch as well.

i'll say sycamore and americans can learn something for a change instead of us saying their words to placate them I cant remember but I THINK theres a bit of chambering done on it. its very light so I'm guessing I did do that. when I say it doesn't finish very well, what I meant was theres a LOT of feathering which never really sands down - that's the main problem with it. I got it from john boddy's years ago and always got their south american after that. it sounds great and its light and everything its just a prick with the feathering and big splinters lifting off it and stuff and james, it'll probably make it a bit lighter sounding, but it wont be THAT different

I was just going to refinish it, but when I took the finish off I remembered how terrible a finish Fiji mahogany gives, and there was a rather large, not split, but one part of wood lifting off (it would make sense if you saw it) so I decided to take a fair chunk of mahogany off the back, stick a bit of sycamore on and carve it like the front. its then all going to be finished in gold. so less of a goldtop, more of a goldeverythingapartfromheadstockfrontandbackandfretboard

that's just it. by the time it gets here with greedy customs its probably about the same. I don't know. i'll have to see what it looks like and decide whats going to suit it. I just covered the top in superglue so when that's dry it'll give an idea of what it'll look like with some finish on - the plan is some amber and a slight red burst, but really really subtle, but it'll give an idea to start with anyway

them, but with the small buttons. that's what I normally get. its just really expensive getting them one set at a time from japan. I've found a nickel bridge over here, but no x-gold. the plan originally was to have nickel parts with gold higlights - saddles, screws, washers etc. then I could use the opposite ones on another. but I'm not too sure how that would look. I am liking the look of those worn gold ones, but you can only get the tuners in that finish. which is a bugger

doesn't have to be, but its just easier to line the neck up with the edge. and now I'm going to have to put it on after so... ugh so annoying. I was going to do some long thin slots to get the weight down a bit anyway. i'll do them from the back and stop a few mm before it goes all the way through

the sides are on. I mean, the side is on, but that doesn't sound right. the neck has a fretboard and a headstock cut out. now the side is on (still doesn't sound right) i'll get the neck pocket cut and then do all the routes and stuff before I glue the front and back on. and at some point get the neck done I suppose.
