  1. theres just two sustainer switches and the other mini switch is a pickup switch. nothing special
  2. i need to get rid of some guitars so if anyone wants to make SENSIBLE offers (if anyone mentions a fiver or a chocolate bar i will kick you in your nuts/equivalent girly parts) then you never know your luck. this one, this one, and once its been resprayed (its got a new carved and bound back and will be all gold) this one. also, theres a holly esquire (that could have a neck pup if someone wanted it) with a spalted beach top with white binding that will have a transparent black burst
  3. i've managed to get the binding back on. just have to file it down a bit to get it flush then get the body all polished up and stuff. the special inlay one? which one do you mean?
  4. its 1.5mm. after doing a bit more yesterday theres less of a gap, but still a gap. i'll give it a go today and see where i can get to
  5. i thought i was doing well. today i got most of the top binding on doing a tiny bit at a time and hammering it to shape as i went. i started at the cutaway and went round, and having just clamped the bass side waist to see if it would clamp right, i bend the shoulder round because it looked like it was going to be a bit short. and sure enough, it seems as though there'll be about a 1mm gap at the end. which is impossible because the sides are on better and MUST be a shorter distance around. it must be. and yet.
  6. it took two weeks for the new white plastic to show up. when it came, it was the wrong size. it then took another week for the replacement piece to arrive. all the whites on now, and because its the second time doing it instead of the first, the sides are on better than they were, so the binding is a slightly different shape to the body and refuses to bend into shape. and im ready to kill someone
  7. the grain showed through massively but he wants it white. so its all off and im waiting for a sheet of white to arrive to start again
  8. musecasters made a guitar for someone from korn and someone wanted him to do a copy of it but he wouldnt so james sent him to me. only its not a proper copy because its not having leds or a midi strip. and now no opal plastic, just white
  9. i know it wasnt solid. otherwise the leds wouldnt have shown through. i just dont think he really understood what was happening. anyway, its off now and ready for the new stuff. whenever that shows up. also, crikey, that takes me back. not necessarily in a good way either!
  10. well it took two or three weeks to bend all that plastic and stainless steel and get it stuck on right, and less than an hour to take it all off again. yesterday, halfway through the sanding process (my binding bit has a bearing .2mm smaller than the binding, so i had to sand it all down slowly, if i'd done it fast the binding would have heated up and melted the glue) i took the tape off the front and back for the first time. now i dont know if i got a less dense opal plastic, or if its just his choice of wood - ash - but you could clearly see the grain through it. bastard. he told me that the original is clearly solid white. i told him it clearly wasnt, and we used opal because he wanted it to be like the original. so either i didnt explain it clearly enough to him, or he didnt understand it properly, but either way, its all off, and solid white plastic is on the way. in other news, if anyone wants any opal plastic, i've got a shit load of it for sale
  11. holy burst thumb blisters batman but at least the bastards filed down
  12. i've managed to get the front one on. back binding over the next couple of days now
  13. im fighting with the stainless steel binding. jesus on a stick its a pain!
  14. the shitting motor on my router has burnt out so im going to have to get a new one. there goes any chance of a new camera lens!
  15. haha yes he said. havent started that because im waiting for the neck and all the bits. but theres a body blank, a HUGE bit of plastic and a massive long bit of stainless steel waiting - which im NOT looking forward to using! no leds though, so thats a plus.
  16. it depends. theres a wood yard about an hour away that i go to sometimes. theres mahogany there and lots of zebrano, purpleheart, wenge, sycamore etc. john boddy's its called. then theres exotic hardwoods uk, david dyke, ebay for figured maple usually. and recently found out there is a place really close to me that sometimes has birdseye maple, so when i need some of that i can ring them to see if they have any and go there if they have. which would have been useful to know before but o well
  17. i've made the back plates for the burl, i think im going to do them cherry because it looked pretty cool. at the mo im carving the new back for the gold top. i'll need to buy some more binding for that. then once thats on, everything stops until it gets warm. because i cant spray when its this cold, and i cant buy anymore wood to get on with the burl, because i have no money
  18. well i've stuck some burl to some normal maple (for a bit of strength) to make some back plates. i'll see how they look when its done, if not i can always just do some ebony ones. i've decided that the goldtop is going to get a proper makeover and im going to give it a carved bound back too. its still going to be all gold, it'll just look a bit cooler.
  19. in fact, having just mocked it up, forget the burst. it looks crap. its either burl with cherry, ebony, or mahogany
  20. urgh i dont know what to do for the back plates. i can either just use the normal black plastic, off cuts from the top with the same colour as the top, off cuts but with cherry to match the back, mahogany to make a seamless back, or get a massive fretboard and have it be ebony
  21. burst on the headstock. as i wont be able to get them for twatting ages i havent thought about pickups
  22. headstock, truss rod cover and scratchplate with a bit of epoxy to stabilise it a bit
