  1. wowzers its been a long time. those jnrs STILL havent been finished yet, but soon. soon. as it is, i need a new camera, so i want to sell these at knock down prices if anyone fancies making a SENSIBLE offer (no mars bars please, i know you're all thinking it), then i have a figure in mind for each, so if you're close, why not. any offer would include a case but not shipping. the burst is as new, but the goldtop has a little dent in the finish, and a couple of finishing flaws, so the goldtop will be knocked down more than the burst. as a guide, new the burst would be £2500, gt £2100
  2. no idea. if i can get the black on fine, then i'll leave it a week or so for any thinners to leave, then IF the chrome works this time, it will only be a week or so after that that it will be done. its just getting the black right and getting the bloody chrome to work. i think this time im going to try doing it a little bit at a time, since the headstock worked fine. so i'll do little sections and hope that does it
  3. nope. what with my cold, then my cough, then blisters so bad on my feet i couldnt stand in one place for more than a minute, then the weather, then with the heater running out of gas... and so on and so on. as soon as i can do i will do it. im sick of the damn thing:p
  4. The damn black still hasn't gone right yet. It's either perfectly flat, but then runs, or has orange peel, or a fly labs on it. It's cursed. Also,I haven't had a pc for two weeks, so I'm not ignoring any emails, I just can't get them on my phone for some reason
  5. the paint was from somewhere else. what they do is ridiculously expensive, and its just 2k paint, so i got some where i always get my paint. it was just a bad batch for some reason. somewhere like sims would probably get all the proper spray equipment too, rather than the atomiser bottles that i have to use, so it would be a lot easier to apply. and the problem was with how they applied the base coat and top coat. ie: with not enough care. there was awful orange peel in both, and huge bits of dust sticking up out of the top coat. they hadnt flatted or polished it or anything. and these are people who just spray guitars all day long. for them to not be able to get a flatter finish than that is terrible. i just got a new gun, and on the tests i did with it i got pretty damn flat, so if i can do it in my dusty garage, surely they can do it in their air filtration system equipped spray booth
  6. i stripped it down to start again. primered it again, black on again. bad batch of black, went like rubber. started from scratch AGAIN. so black tomorrow hopefully
  7. well the headstock worked fine, the body still looks like shit. theres no reason for it at all.
  8. everything i used came with the kit. as he said its either something in the sensitiser that was already there, or something that has got into it since i've had it, or something that has got onto the base coat without me knowing as i certainly havent touched it. but if someone was spraying some weedkiller or something and the wind got hold of it who knows
  9. as soon as the silver goes on it reacts to something. im not over spraying it which would make it go white, its as soon as it goes on, theres white bits, gold bits, bits that look like water marks which really shouldnt happen. hopefully it will get sorted with the next try
  10. who knows. theres nothing else it can be. we went through everything, he was asking me about every step, every sprayer, everything. because of the things its doing it can only be the sensitiser apparently, so it must be something with that. why it works on little bits he doesnt know.
  11. well it just hasnt been working at all. i've been so pissed off you have no idea. im glad no one else was around lets put it that way. this corner is the only bit that actually looked good. the rest looked like shit (in terms of being a chrome finish, i thought it actually looked pretty cool) after speaking with the guy who i got the paint from, he seems to think there must be a contaminant somewhere in the system. so unfortunately, im going to have to strip it back and respray the black to make sure whatever it is has gone, then he's going to send me some pre-mixed stuff so he knows there's nothing in there that shouldnt be. it could be either a bad batch of sensitiser solution, or when im heating it theres something in the microwave thats contaminating it. either way, its going to take longer than it should had it worked fine in the first place. which is a bastard. but its better to be good than crap. also, if you'll note in the pic, where it is good, its a hell of a lot flatter than sims managed!
  12. well that was an unmitigated disaster. i think i know why though so hopefully when i try again tomorrow it goes better. the headstock looked great until it started blotching. the bastard
  13. well i was going to spray the chrome today until i read the instructions again and it recommends leaving the sensitiser solution over night before you use it. bugger
  14. just waiting for the fumes to go. it should only be a day or two till i can get the chrome on. not sure how it will look yet, i guess i shall have to wait and see
  15. had i the space and the money i surely would. but i have neither.
  16. so after the first try with the black got too much dust and orange peel, i had another go today, and thought id do it outside. less chance of bits. so i thinned the mixture and upped the pressure so the orange peel would be better and sprayed. it looked good. then some cornflies decided to land on it. little shitting bastards. so im going to have to flat it down again tomorrow and have another go at spraying when theres no cornflies wafting about
  17. the black is the most important bit because it needs to be perfect. its going to need another go because there are a few bits of dust in it. so i'll flat it again tomorrow and give it another go. hopefully it should be good then. then its just waiting for all the fumes to go before i can apply the silver
  18. im currently spraying the black. note to self - must remember NOT TO TOUCH IT!!!!!!!!!!
  19. same shape as the normal ones (i've tweaked it slightly as the corners can be bashed by tuning tool thingys). the jnr will be pretty much the same as the goldtop only with the same logo as on james' last one, and the + has a rosewood facing
  20. just your normal cherry for the other one. i might do it with a really really thin straight from the gun finish though, as the + feels really nice after a couple of sealer coats on the back. i'll see when i do it anyway
  21. did the burst on the jnr + today and oof that top looks good. its all shimmery and lovely. no pics, because i need to go over the outer brown a bit more because its uneven on the shoulder and horn - the lighting isnt the best in my "workshop" (dusty old garage)
  22. its just white. theres nothing to see really. just whiteness. its really not exciting
  23. the primer is on - just about to go flat it down. then i have to leave it to make sure all the fumes have evaporated before getting the black on. today i think i might spray a burst on one of my jnrs
  24. it'll probably be more than the guitar is worth to be honest. i would say at least £150, more if its troublesome. and then theres no telling what could happen to the finish (if its got any left that is)
