  1. It's probably something from the AxeFX or something to be fair, just an envelope filter? Solo sounds like FF and phaser, maybe you can see in the making of DVD wether he has the FF switched on on the black guitar.

Make coffee and keep going! Haha, no seriously, get some rest and do it right in the morning. Well, later in the morning Personally, i'd rather build guitars than do anything in all the world, I just don't think I could rely on it to feed my family and put a roof over our head. I'm doing the diploma so I can work in the field of acoustics, you pretty much need it to get membership of the Institute of Acoustics. You need membership to have a hope in hell's chance of getting a proper job in Acoustics. I'm going to look at finishing the second year and getting my Masters if I can afford it, but it's all up in the air at the minute.

I don't know. In real life i'm a complete arsehole. Maybe. I'm hanging around a lot because i'm working on my Diploma in Acoustics (first year of a masters) and avoiding doing any real work.
  4. From a friend who's friends with Paul. A lot of the mic's etc in our old studio came from Pauls touring gear when he upgraded.
  5. Pffft. I can top that. My Roland G202 used to belong to Andrew Ridgeley from Wham. And my VG8 was Paul Carrack's.
  6. Re: MIJ strats. The story I was told, is that Fender wanted to stamp out far east strat copies by making their own (squire). They contacted the two best guitar makers in Japan, namely Tokai and Fuji gen gakki who built the Roland guitars etc. I don't know how the details worked out but Tokai ended up with the contract to build th guitars and were given the plans and tooling from Fullerton. They later had a falling out and production was moved to Fuji gen gakki. However, Tokai retained the rights to the original production, which is why fender were unable to produce its own reissue guitars without a licence. I believe they bought the rights back sometime in the early 2000 and thus ensued a raft of strat reissues. Please bear in mind that I have no idea how much of that is true, and must research it at some point. They are great guitars either way. MIJ are marginally better than CIJ, but both are better than contemporary USA models. I'm not sure I believe that's why prouduction was. Annex, though they did affect sales where both were available. I think its more to do with the strength of the yen.
  7. This is my strat. Apart from the GK I stuck on temporarily because my spare guitar is down, it's entirely un-modded. You can just about make out the cracks in the finish, not sure what caused it.
  8. Hey, I have a MIJ Strat from 1990. EDIT SNIP: Just checked, it is a 1962 re-issue and it is amazing. I would actually run into a burning building to retrieve it. Better call it Lucille.. It is red as well. Am I in the club too?
  9. My 'local' guitar shop regularly sells start and tele necks with fake fender logos badly applied. Some are made in house but a lot come off those no-brand guitars that sell for about £99!
  10. Ground strap? WHAAAT! That's a bit of a McGuyver if you ask me, I sure as hell couldn't live with it. A much better solution would be drilling the body through from the strap button through to a pickup cavity. The difficult bit is finding one long and thin enough if you don't want a dowel in the end when you're done.
  11. That bass is NomnomNomNOMNOM! Except that I look like a dwarf if I try to rock one of them. What's going on with the bit between the pickup and bridge?

It depends on the polarity, one coil will be rwrp, you want to use that in conjunction with a standard polarity single coil, as it will give a hum cancelling effect. I use the outer as its usually the most different to the neck pickup.

Think that should work using a 5-way Tele Super switch. The GND marking on pole 3 should read Hot. Just wire the other end of the Humbucker coils to gnd. Gives you 5 positions: 1.Single Coil 2.Single Coil and outer humbucker coil in phase 3. Single Coil out of phase and outer humbucker coil (Or you can wire the full humbucker to positions two & three) 4. Outer Humbucker coil 5. Both humbucker coils I just knocked that up super quick, but it should work quite nicely I think, unless I'm very wrong in my understanding of how the switch works. I like my Humbuckers wired in parallel when using coil splits as it produces more of a tone change than an increase in volume. You do get more volume with both coils, but I feel it's less pronounced.

So you have two pickups, and you want to be able to reverse the phase of the single coil?

What pickups do you have, and what configurations do you want to switch? I may have an even more elegant solution for you.
  16. Dom, I can't afford it till next month, sorry What were you planning to use the half notes for, I may be interested in those in a couple of weeks if I can afford them.
