  1. hmm ok then. i imagine it sounds better through the super bass - i don't think i've ever run effects into a simulator.

I did link to the recording, so just download that and run it through your amp(s). ;)

The problem with internet demos is amps have a massive impact on the sound, the microphone, how it is positioned, the room... everything fucks with the sound. If I changed the amp simulation, the sound would be totally different.

If you go to the Plug Your Band thread and find the sampler of Tourists I put up, I reckon you'd be hard pushed to tell me what equipment I was actually using there.

  2. I'm selling a Sennheiser MD441-2. A now discontinued version of the microphone without the high-pass filter and tuschel connector. Comes with mic clamp and tuschel > XLR converter.

Great microphone that mostly sits around doing nothing. Looking for £300.

Also a Boss PS-2 Digital Pitch Shifter/Delay. Has a broken Dry/Wet mix knob, which is repairable, but I haven't done so in the 6/7 years I've had it, so might as well stop pretending that I will one day. £50?

  3. James,

It's a 2009 SG Special. Plays wonderfully and as soon as I swap the buckers and rewire it with real components it will be an epic Gibson. I'm going with new 500k pots and better caps wired like the early Les Paul's were and then Seymour Duncan Jazz in the neck and a 59 in the bridge. Low power and classic tone.

The little Ampeg is a 1962 Reverb-O-Rocket. It's a tube rectified two 6V6, 18 watt circuit. It's extremely clean and doesn't like to be forced to break up in the preamp, but sounds great with a pedal that is creating the overdrive internally. It sounds much like a Fender Deluxe with more midrange. I installed a Aiken amps version of a Greenback which was voiced for small combo amps and it sounds unreal. I love that little amp. I'll do some clips soon of it alone and it in stereo with my '62 Fender. It's awesome.

    How are newer SG's?

Various 60's and 70's SG's, including Juniors are some of the best guitars I've ever played, playing a 2005/6 one was beyond a disappointment, had this fat, horrible unplayable neck.

Always been after an SG, would be nice to not have to go into the vintage market if I can avoid it.

  4. I might be selling my M-Audio Profire 610 within the next few weeks.

It does have a few issues, one of the microphone preamps is playing up, is the one of the other analogue inputs and at least one of the outs I believe is playing up as well. Basically makes crackling sounds, similar to a totally fucked vinyl. May be possible to repair them, but can't find any useful info online.

At least 2 inputs work and hopefully 7 outputs work fine, so should be adequate for bedroom recording.

    I'm open to offers.

  5. That's interesting. I'm not familiar with ceramic saddles at all, but I wonder how the individual bridge pieces affect the sustain. The wangcaster MK II has a bridge design which clamps the saddles together into a "sustain block" or something ridiculous like that

No idea about your bass, but mine seems like a bit of a gimmick to be honest, and is a joke when it comes to setting intonation...I gave up after an hour of trying to get it correct... and it's still horribly off

I've got the carbon rods in one of my guitars, but it's more to stabilize the neck joint than anything else.

I don't think the idea is so much about increasing sustain, more about coupling the strings with the body better for resonances to be pronounced, adding more harmonics to the sound and other sciencey stuff. One benefit of this will be increased sustain.

  6. thanks.

but it's not a copycat, it's my vision and feeling of what is Muse.(a group i do not listen)

i have 300+ videos and each group have a different way of mixing.and zero copycat

it's obvious on "i belong to you", do yall really thing this sound is not seeked ?

anyway, yes standard tunning, for the reasons explained.

    Peace

All your videos sound thin & harsh, no idea what is with the ultra bright reverb everything is swimming in and those drums are comedy.

Its not the style that is the problem here.

  7. Never used the Nano, but generally prefer the Small Stone over the Phase90. All the different versions of the Small stone do sound a bit different, for what you'd spend on a new Phase90, you'd have plenty of options on the second hand market for Small Stones.

Talk Show Host by Radiohead is a good example of a Small Stone, as well as the entirety of Oxygene by Jean Michel Jarre. Beautiful pedal on guitars, synths, vocals...

  8. Probably due to blowing air at the mic.

That would be a plosive, not sibilance. The latter, is best explained as a resonance, kinda similar to whistling. Microphone choice, placement and processing can emphasize it.

Plosives, which are B, P, T's and all that do blow air at the microphone, but much easier to disguise. If you put your hand about 6 inches away from your mouth and talk at it, you'll get an idea of what it hitting a microphone.

Certainly not an "error" or "glitch". De-essing, which is the technique for removing sibilant sounds in recordings can make a vocalist sound like they have a lisp, very common in advertising weirdly.

  9. Haha I meant besides the obvious Whammy option, but I suppose you're right in saying it's pointless buying a synth just for a more realistic sounding MOTP sound. Is there anything else worth noting Matt uses the Clavia for? If i was to buy one, or something similar, what else would it be able to do, that would justify buying a synth?

Its a synthesiser? So it'll do synth stuff.

But there are better options out there, if I was buying a hardware synth, the Nord wouldn't be anywhere near top of my list.

  10. Aha, I'm not too familiar with his live setup besides the obvious (whammy, FF etc) How much are they? If they're uber expensive is there a decent, cheaper alternative that can be used for MOTP?

A WH4 and plenty of VSTs out there.

Would be totally stupid to buy a synth to only play MOTP.

  11. This might be a dumb question, but I don't suppose there is a VST synth modeled on the Clavia is there?

And which vocoder did you use to do this?

Any vocoder and a synth if required that I've had access to over the years.

Got a recording I did in Ableton using Vocoder and Analog, but didn't have an amp simulator at the time.
