  1. Love that line It's human nature the greatest hunter will survive alone with no one left to love The way Matt delivers that line is just perfect.
  2. Did anyone else think of this when they first heard it? [YT]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sJfEzKd_yO0&feature=youtu.be&t=16s[/YT] Skip to 0:16
  3. Basically: In Revolt, their plans for a revolution fail, and Aftermath represents the people coming together as one to help each other fthrough such desperate measures. The western part to me represents the leader coming to the people. In westerns, that kind of music usually signifies an entry of some sort. The tense drumrolls hint at something going on behind the people's backs and in this case they've captured the main character. Basically, when Matt begins singing, they're brainwashing the protagonist. He sings in a somewhat soft voice; probably representing hypnotizing. When the heavy part kicks in, he's snapped. He is now a drone and has brought a second wave of chaos. The drums and tremolo begin the world being destroyed and everything pushed over the edge. The sudden jump cut to the piano is like something of a fade to white. Everything has been destroyed and reduced to rubble. The lyrics are then basically a "what have I done" moment. Then he's telling his "babe" that he only gave in because he didn't want to be left out and was tired of feeling rejected. Then she leaves him. Then in "Drones", as I stated earlier, the fact that it's a bunch of different tracks of Matt singing the same lines over and over, that could represent everyone who has died in the global catastophe. They've been killed by Drones. Then they ask, "are you dead inside?". Basically I think they're asking him "Are you happy you've brought this shit upon us." Not sure what the "Amen" signifies, but probably just a means of bringing an end to the story, and the souls sleeping now. That or it could also be something of a requiem for those who died too. Just my interpretation.
  4. Same thing with Rolling Stone and U2. Boy and October were given an extremely harsh review they've been kissing U2's asses ever since. Although AM are pretty close.
  5. Or they could just put the French part of I Belong To You on repeat for 10 hours. That would cause major chaos worldwide.
  6. Most of the album is shit IMO. I never liked Showbiz, as it always sounded like an album full of songs Radiohead would have thought twice about before putting on The Bends. Sunburn, MM and Unintended are great though.
  7. Exactly, it doesn't take long to blow up the world. That's why that section is so short. I've narrowed it down to this: Western part: The government showing up to capture the protagonist CE-style part: They brainwash the protagonist Heavy part: Chaos starts, bombs go off, nuclear war starts and the world is destroyed Final part: The leader has a "what have I done" moment and realizes he did it because nobody ever loved him properly. He's now a sad and empty shell of a man. Then Drones comes along, all the souls of the catastrophe are all reaching out to the leader and asking why he did it.
  8. trying to piece the story together, I think this song sort of resembles all the souls who were killed in the explosion. they look down at the leader who is full of regret and ask him "are you dead inside?".
  9. BTW I think I've figured out why the heavy part is so short. that part is meant to resemble the world being blown up. The bass drum kicks in when the countdown starts and the drums kicking in for a few seconds before the tremolo resembles it exploding and it explodes quickly. The jarring transition to the piano is almost like a "cut to white".
  10. I took people's advice and today, listened to it and The Globalist back to back as one song, and they're right, it really does work in that regard.
  11. After listening a few more times I must say I love it even more. It's like Exogenesis' evil twin. Also, the lyrics during the piano part are seriously heartbreaking. I'll admit once I began focusing on the lyrics I teared up a little.
  12. This song has stuck with me since hearing it for the first time. Absolutely haunting track with beautiful lyrics and gorgeous harmonies. This was the unexpected hit of the album for sure.
  13. Also, anyone else love that countdown before the heavy part really explodes? Such a creepy and nice touch.
  14. This. Track. Owns. My one complaint is that the third part goes on for a tad too long, but otherwise it's a fucking ripping track. Love how it starts off calm, then EXPLODES... then a sort of USoE style calm part closes it. Just a fun track all around and totally look forward to listening to it on the way to work tomorrow.
  15. Alright my review! Pre-release tracks 1. Dead Inside- 4/5. I was not so hot on this the first time I heard it, but it works so much better in the context of the album. 2. Drill Sergeant/3. Psycho- 3.5/5. Catchy but ultimately weighed down by the repetition. 4. Mercy- 4/5. Again, works much better in the album. 5. Reapers- 5/5. We already know how I feel. Headbang worthy and some of the best riffs in Muse's career. 6. The Handler- 5/5. I kid you not, this has the potential to be Absolution-level classic. It's heavy and catchy but melancholy and just sad too. Now that we're past that... 7. JFK/8. Defector- 4/5. This song just fucking rocks. It is slightly ruined by its repetition, but I love the darker Led Zep feel. The chorus is so dark in contrast to the verses. And JFK provides a nice lead-in. 9. Revolt- 1/5. What... the... fuck? Did Mutt Lange sneak in a rejected Hootie and the Blowfish sheet music into their pile and force them to sing it at gunpoint??? This is bad. Just bad. The one thing preventing this from being a 0 is the tempo change in the chorus. 10. Aftermath- 5/5. What... the... fuck??? This time in a good way. This is so not Muse. Seriously I was not expecting this. Slow, dark, haunting, melancholy. The vocal harmonies are so beautiful they send shivers down my spine. I have a feeling this song is going to be in my head all night. 11. The Globalist- 4.5/5. The one gripe I have about this song is that the piano bit near the end goes on for longer than it needs to. Otherwise I love it. It's a rollercoaster. Beginning with a western-style introduction, an OoS style poppy verse then... THAT... the heavy part just comes out of nowhere and smacks you in the face. I totally may have headbanged just a little. The final part is like a darker USoE. Love it. 12. Drones- 2/5. I can't come down on this too hard because it's definitely very ambitious. I like the idea of a song created entirely out of vocal harmonies. At times it sounds pretty. But... as a whole, it's flat. It's not a satisfying closer at all and the lyrics are atrocious. I admire the effort, but it just comes off as pretentious. Overall: 4/5. Get rid of those two tracks and you have a 5/5.
  16. Good god with all these new songs coming out it's basically Christmas for Musers! That said I love it! It's a very melancholy tune but rockin' as fuck.
