  1. I'm calling COD the Egyptian sounding song, now.

Half of the ones you've mentioned have had a catchy beat to them that the public will remember, and Assassin, CoD and possibly Map are all light hearted. You've also conveniently left out half of the album?

Compare to The Resistance and Drones, where the former only has two songs that have a light sound to them (Guiding Light and I Belong to You) and only three songs that are accessible to the public due to being catchy (Uprising, Undisclosed Desires and Guiding Light), and the latter has three songs with a light sound to them (Dead Inside, Mercy and Revolt).

I'd say every odd album so far has been the dark, bass heavy, rock albums (Showbiz, Absolution, Resistance and Drones), with the even ones being lighter. If I wanted to listen to catchy music that cheers me up and makes me happy, I'd definitely switch on Black Holes or 2nd Law. I'd say that Take A Bow, Soldier's Poem and Hoodoo are the only songs on Black Holes album I wouldn't recommend to the average person, with literally every other song being accessible.

I've always saw Resistance and Drones as dark when I imagine them. Black Holes is all very catchy, cheerful music.

The Resistance is definitely lighter than BH&R, although Exogenesis is admittedly less upbeat.

That said, OoS is arguably their darkest album, which kind of ruins your every odd album theory.

Dig Down makes Fanatano's worst tracks of the week. Doesn't really say anything much about it though.

    No surprises here.

No I don't think you do

There's no justice in the world

    And there never was

That part always cheers me up.

When will this loneliness be over

    A very happy album indeed.

  2. Because I don't want to hear that goddamn claim that "Muse copied Radiohead1!1!" anymore. They moved their first step by getting panned on this baseless evidence with Showbiz. It would be like overshadowing them again.

I prefer them to stay on separate dimensions, and that's it. Muse as a more viable band that like to play around some pop influences, and Radiohead as a perfect example of a band that are successful whilst experimenting properly a lot.

And... "trend hopping"? They would make music like Imagine Dragons and such if they were doing that.

Fair enough, but I'd still rather they ape Radiohead than release more garbage like this.

    Er. No.

  3. No. Just... no.

If it must come down to this, then I prefer to keep shamelessly 80s-influenced Muse, thank you.

Why? At least Radiohead are still writing genuinely interesting music, not just trend hopping like Matt.

    - new album influenced by "burning man festival", many songs with EBM elements and Hiphop beats

    Ah shit.

Hell, in my honest opinion he is the best lyricist alive.

Not trying to be that guy, but no. As lurker said, the likes of Kendrick, Nick Cave and Darnielle could speak circles around him. Not that it matters, since in the case of Matt his lyrics are so bad that all other comparisons are immediately pointless.

  4. May I tell you a colossal blasphemy?

To me, if it wasn't for that damn synth line, it would've been the perfect blend between the synth pop Muse and the cosmic, "HCM-like" Muse. The final part gives me that feeling.

Where are you getting HCM from?

I remember when Muse had a drummer. Good times.

  5. I'm not convinced it's an EP, and not just one song.

Matt was spouting off about VR a lot at the end of last cycle, doing VR at gigs, and the people in the video clip seemed to be wearing visors, so it's a legitimate guess, I suppose.

Hopefully not a VR video again.

The idea of a VR video is pretty cool, but the video itself has to be worth a watch and take advantage of the technology.
