    That's how I view the album.. The good songs are excellent - some of Muse's best since BHaR. But the bad songs... man... Aftermath could have been an awesome bluesey jam if it wasn't for the cheese and Revolt is just so ridiculous I can't believe it's Muse

    After a week or so of listening to the album.. I love dead inside I skip Psycho. It's too long and boring. (Mutt that was a terrible decision - Muse were right in keeping it short) Mercy is okay but I'll still listen to it for now Reapers is pretty fun still. The Handler is by far the standout on the album and will probably be the one song that I'll listen to/not skip in a few months time. Defector is ok, just can't stand the vocals in the verses Revolt - no Aftermath - it has grown on me but towards the end the cheese is just too real. Chris really gives the song a good atmosphere. The Globalist - not muse's best. Wasted potential imo. Drones- cool concept but lyrics are laughable. I'm just wondering what the album would have turned out to be if Mutt didn't influence it too much - what would Muse come up with on their own? Their best music was made with a producer - Costey and Leckie both producing the best albums. Would love if their next album was written with them - maybe giving Matt a bit of a slap in the face to remind him that he used to be a much stronger songwriter. That's not saying that I don't like Drones though. Miles ahead of T2L for me - I haven't even listened to that album the release in 2012. I can see myself actually listening to this in the future.

    Definitely. I miss the frantic little drummer back on Absolution. Right now his drumming feels so lazy and generic. Really doesn't complement Matt's uninspired songwriting at times.

    You can tell they worked harder on this album compared to T2L, and they made a better one. I just think this one has worse songs than T2L - but overall has way more stronger songs that I'd want to listen to.

    Last time I was there, there were a ton of people shitting on the album. Has the general consensus changed or did someone who liked the album there make that infographic?

    If we can have more songs like the Handler I'd be happy for many new albums. But we're not. We got The Handler this album, Animals last album, and MK Ultra (and debatably exogenesis) during TR. People who want old Muse sadly aren't gonna get lots of it, or any for that matter. Unless someone slaps Matt in the face and tells him to look at the decrease in quality these past few albums - nothing is going to happen. And nothing will.

    Probably agree with this, Endlessly has this weird eerie atmosphere which keeps drawing me to it.

    Hey guys, Listened to the full album a few times today. I was one of the people who withheld listening to The Handler, so I'd only heard tracks 1-5. Holy shit, The Handler. I can't believe we haven't been getting songs like this all along, because honestly this is what we're looking for. A riff that doesn't feel 'forced', song flows well, incredibly dark and also has some really excellent falsetto. Especially the "wah-uh-uh-uh" (best I could express it in writing) bit- I'd say its the best song they've released since BHaR. Defector is ok I guess. I feel like the riff is slightly uncreative and I'm not a fan of the "society" Queen-style vocals. But I still find myself kinda grooving to it - so I'm not completely against it. Now... Revolt and Aftermath. I have no words. I will never listen to these two songs again. The Globalist - great first part - incredibly atmospheric, good melodies, great vocals then... a riff out of nowhere? Doesn't even build up to anything - and although the riff is great, it's like Muse just jammed it in there because Matt wanted CE pt II. And the best part about it, it actually reaches a point where it gets really heavy and feels like it's going to go somewhere - then bam. Piano ballad. And the thing is- it just fades. No proper cohesion like original CE had. The piano bit on its own isn't too bad - it just goes on for way too long. Now I wouldn't be so negative about this all if it wasn't labeled as CE pt II. But I can't help comparing TG to it. Is it in the same league as it? Absolutely not. Is it still an alright song given what we've gotten these past few years? Absolutely. The best thing about this song is the prospect they'll play CE live more. Drones? Sounds great, but the lyrics are laughable. I personally find the whole 'concept' of the album to be a bit ham-fisted. So to find Matt singing "are you dead inside" and "killed by drones" in a Gregorian-style chant is just comical.. Would probably be better if I couldn't understand english. Matt's voice is great though. Songs I will actually listen to in the future: The Handler Reapers Dead Inside Songs that are ok but I can still fault them somehow and probably won't listen to often Defector The Globalist Psycho Mercy Songs I'll probably never listen to again Revolt(ing) Aftermath Drones But yeah. This album beats the whole T2L solely just because of The Handler. I can't have enough praise for it. /rant over

    Ahh I've lurked long enough tonight. Heading to bed in the land down under! On the way home from work there is a slightly smaller CD store - I might check them out to see if they have a copy tomorrow. Hopefully they'll have it and then we can all enjoy Drones early.

    Yeah I'm a bit nervous about The Globalist. Probably shouldn't have watched the making of vid to get those preconceived ideas in my head.. Hopefully it delivers.

    Yeah that's why I'm waiting. Listening to TR and T2L (despite how average they were) was amazing given that they were the first two Muse albums I actually heard on release - the influx of new Muse was amazing.

    Yeah thats the release date for some other countries (mine included!) Also in regards to the Handler - I have it on my spotify. Clickable but not playable. Anyone going to withhold from listening to it? I reckon I wanna hear the 2nd half of the album fresh, I reckon I might give it a miss until I have the whole album.

    I've gotten CE, Sunburn, Bliss, MoTP live.. but I feel like last tour I just got ripped off. My last gig didn't even have SS! That NB/SS rotation was a killer, I would have loved for fucking guiding light to be swapped for SS... And they ended up playing Fury, Agitated, SS, and CE in Melbourne the next few nights. I want to be surprised on tour.

    I just hate at every fricken gig there's a spot for Uprising, Starlight, etc.. I've seen those songs live enough. Maybe play MK Ultra instead of Uprising one gig? Even USoE? How about Hoodoo, MoTP, Assassin instead of Starlight? Just those 'staple' songs are getting a little old. I just would love to have a huge surprise when I go to a gig. Last time I saw them, the previous night they played CE, Sunburn, and Animals.. We ended up getting Bliss (good) but also Guiding Light, Feeling Good, and no Hysteria.. Slightly disappointing to be honest. If they just had a few slots for those particular albums we could avoid this altogether. Everyone gets an OoS song, etc.. EDIT I mean, last time Radiohead came to Aus (sadly couldn't see them) they mixed up the sets completely both nights.. Muse should use their discography instead of making us bored of their 'classics'

    I reckon the best way for them to do their Drones tour setlists would to have the standard 'Drones' slots for the songs, and then have a few 'random' slots - like one slot for a Showbiz era song, a couple for OoS, a couple for Abso, etc... (and one for CE ) Here Muse would be able to play all their new stuff, and also surprise fans with a few random oldies
