  1. ill wait for the surprise. That wood would look great for a vintage project though. I came across a vintage tiesco control plate, fully wired, in a local add lately. That plus some other nice vinatgey parts, and you could have a nice guitar...

  2. they're some fine ass pickups hooglebug. And that wood is so cool. It has that sort of vintagy-aged look. Maybe a nice natural finish of some sort???

  3. yup it really is.

you can get red mirror. other than that...um....paisley? hehe

i like the sound of red mirror...... a link would be great. not to worry if you dont have one..

paisley? you mean a pickguard with this on it?

  4. depends what wood i use. if its nice then i'll just have a natural finish, if its not so great looking then black or something

EDIT: went to a great wood yard today and got enough black limba for maybe two bodies and three necks and some lovely african padauk. so this one will be all black limba with probably an ebony board. might do a bit of black tint and burst on it depending how it looks.

still dont know which shape to do. discounted desiree shape cos it just doesnt look right. so its down to sakura, or a deco shape.

i like the sakura. You posted one before that looked like it had a cutaway in the side part of it, really close to where the pickups would be.

    edit:

this one, the impressionist. what about that one?

    IMP-1.jpg

  5. i like the second from the left. It looks like it's got elements from a MoC and something like a Jaguar.... can't quite put my finger on it..... looks/sounds like a nice project. any thought on finished etc?

  6. no i did the bridge from scratch. just found a pdf of the dimensions and drew it from that. stewmac usually has pdf's of its products and wd has some too. if i can do it it cant be that hard, sketchup is the first 3d cad thing iv ever used so it cant be that difficult hehe

cool, ill have a look on stew mac. thanks again

  7. have started trying to my website, to be there till something better turns up. its only a coming soon page for now, but thought i might as well get the address out. www.afguitars.co.uk

and indeed has turned up in my signature. im getting used to all this computer business hehe

finally got around to giving indigo a go. not too shabby at all! also, in your renders, how did you go about doing the bridge? imported from cad/3dwarehouse??

also, set up a blog to document my 1st build. Thought you might like to have a look seeing as how you've helped me along the way. NB Guitars

  8. with customs? you mean the guitars or the render things? the render things i've been doing about two weeks lol. the guitars, my first i was 15/16, my second was 5 years later and my third (the purple mirror MoC) was 5 years after that

lol! i meant the guitars. I took a look at indigo by the way. It definitely has some things that vray doesn't have. I'll probably stick with vray for the moment, cos it's got a lot of import/export things that i use with other programs and cos i've been using it for about a month or so at the mo, but ill leave indigo in my sketchup arsnal, cos i'm sure ill find a use for it at some stage. good find btw.

The custom im doing this summer will be my first. Im making the body with a friend of mine, and depending on how it turns out, we might try to sell it. There's a lot of great bands in our university, and there's always notices for people selling equipment in the students union. No harm in trying, it might be a nice way to make a few quid. (at least im optimistic!)

  9. go here - project guitar forum. go to the in progress thread, theres some really good guitars being made on there. and you can search for me and see my past threads i think

the ff thing there is my second guitar ever - a flying v. i just chucked lots of stuff on it to see what i could do. havent touched it in a long time lol.

and indigo is free, so i use it hehe

    cool thanks.

must go get that indigo one too. looks good. i'm guessing with customs, you've been doing them for a while?

  10. its google sketchup with indigo renderer

fail. vray for sketchup ftw!!!! ;)

im a prolific sketchup user, cos i need to be for uni. They're some sweet renders though. I think i've missed a few posts, but that thing with the ff, that's seriously original. Nice work!

just wondering, do you have a site/blog/whatever with various postings and info on some of your stuff? I'm only planing my first custom this summer, and it's a pretty basic shape (based on a tele, see my final prep topic), but i'd like to try more daring shapes and some electronicy things like a ff and usb connection if the first one is a success.

  11. finally got around to finishing the make-over on the purple one. it really did need it. the fuzz is rather noisy, shall have to have a look at that tomorrow, but otherwise much better than last time. i do rather miss the colour, but this was cheaper and i have no money so what can you do? ah well

its all oil finished too. couldnt be bothered spraying. body is danish oil and some antique mahogany wax, neck is tru oil (which feels AMAZING!!)

    th_11042008062.jpgth_11042008061.jpgth_11042008060.jpg

i like how its made the mirror look on the one on the bed! i wish it looked like that in real life. ah well

looks really good. For good photos, go down to somewhere that does textiles, like a shop that sells rolls of fabric, and buy some black. About 2-3 metres. Then pin it to a wall, prop up the guitar, and shoot. Thats what we use to photograph our models in architecture, and they always turn out excellent.

    edit:

really like the back of it, the mirror cavity covers are such a nice subtlety

  12. play nice now kiddies:)

no, its actually tradition around here that everyone tells tyechan to fuck off. He always posts random pointless shit, so in the spirit of the thread, you have 100% permission to tell tyechan to fuck off. Just ask anyone like Samcoma, JJ, or MuseMatt, who are always around. Observe:

    Fuck off tyechan

  13. keep up the good work anyway. im building my first custom this summer, if all goes well, a friend and i are going to build a few and try to sell them. Do you find your guitars sell well?

  14. well see theres nothing wrong with that! i was expecting some real nastiness! hehe

i wanted them to be a range if you like - the desiree/sakura guitars and basses, then the deco versions of those ones. obviously the archtop is an upsized deco, and the imp was a kind of crazy version of the desiree. and everyones got to have a strat type thing hehe.

so rather than having lots and lots of different things running around, i thought a nice little group who stay together would be more manageable. as it is i've only made those two, and no one wants one so the others arent getting made anyway. which is a bugger. but ah well.

maybe if i start being in a position to be able to do more and more i would, but maybe not. i seem to go through spurts of being creative, and then outside of that, i cant do anything. which is rather annoying

i think if you were going for a range, i wouldnt. I'd go for a range of each style. Like take the Impressionist one, for example (i took that one cos i really like the cut into the body. looks nice) You should make an Impressionist Standard, Impressionist SH (Semi Hollow) etc. By doing this, you've a whole new freedom to do slight changes, and really perfect the designs. I think they're all too different to have them all as one range. Each design is definitely good enough to merit its own range.

  15. why not? you're allowed not to like things!

thanks for the kind words everyone

ok. But before i do, i dont mean any offence, cos i do like a lot of them.

However, I notice there's almost a sense of repetitiveness about them. Now, being a designer myself, i know that a lot of designers will try to create a sort of style or method that will almost be like a signature for them. And if thats what you're going for, then i think you've already done it, but you're also bringing in a bit of rerpetitiveness.

Personally, i do like the sort of signature-like-style you're going for, i think its quite elegant, but not in a boring way. However, i think that you have the potential to create some really original designs.

Im not at all trying to be negative, and sorry if it comes across like that, but do you see my point or will i be more specific??

PS. I do actually like your designs, and your finished guitars are excellent.
