What makes it "new"? Compared to just retrowave
New Retrowave is a sub-genre of Synthwave that mimicks the styles made popular in the original 80s boom period. It has several sub-sub-genres, each focusing on one of those mimicked styles.
Sub-sub genres for instance:
Dreamwave, Darkwave/Horror or Slasherwave, Outrun, etc etc.

If they use the synthwave design that why not experiment with that genre? An acoustic pop song is not compatible with New Retrowave. There are synthwave artists who also incorporate prog rock guitars in songs, one example:

Acoustic songs are so freaking boring and plain. Why would anyone want Muse to write songs like that? Just use the electric guitar with amazing effects for Christ sake.

Stop saying I'm a troll. And I meant when a whole song is constructed stripped down with only acoustic, bass and drums. And I'm not moving goal posts either. I just simply don't want Muse to go in that direction where we won't even hear a guitar amplified.

I wouldn't say Nature_01 is a good song. City of Delusion is great but in case you haven't noticed, not only acoustic features in that song. It has colour in overall and not plain boring acoustic strumming sound.

Maybe you don't like this genre, ok. But only listen to the work on the guitar.
Would you prefer "More than words" by Extreme on electric guitar? It would kill the atmospere for me.
You can play great, these songwriters are good guitar players, no doubt. However, my main problem is with the acoustic sound itself. You cannot really create your own sound. If you experiment with for instance 20 effects at once and you just created a unique sound, that's more like it for me.
However, I still like a few acoustic songs but it is extremely rare.

Only Josh Homme can write great music with acoustic guitar like Mosquito Song. But only because he is the God of modern rock music and has the most talent ever.
By the way, altough pairing with lyrics, songwriting can be good, all these songs on acoustic still sound the same and I mean the sound which the guitar makes: " transmitting the vibration of the strings to the air".. This freaking simple, strung sound is so boring.... Thank God humans invented how to amplify and add effects in the same time.

Surely it's to do with the writing, arrangement and relationship with other instruments? You can write totally none generic arrangements on an acoustic guitar, especially if you play around with unusual tunings, scales and chords.
This is as stupid as saying all use of distortion on an electric guitar is boring.
Acoustic is terrible. The best way to ruin an electric guitar based song is to do an acoustic version. It's like making that certain song as generic and tedious as possible.
When bands do acoustic albums, or unplugged sets, that is the worst possible way to share music with the audience. No uniqueness in sound at all. It just becomes boring and totally uninteresting.

It's a thing because it is a record label but either you call it Retrowave or New Retrowave, no difference.
I see where they come from.
