  1. Nice! One very important thing about this album for me, particularly as a follow-up for T2L, is that - regardless of whether it's a masterpiece or not - it's quite an intriguing collection of songs, and it leaves me interested (and pretty positive) about the future. And if Muse are hyping The Handler as their favourite song on it, and talking up the reaction Psycho gets live, then that's very encouraging as well.
  2. http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/music/reviews/muse-drones-album-review-unrepentantly-ambitious-and-laced-with-emotional-intrigue-10300057.html EDIT: and http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/music/cdreviews/11649952/Muse-Drones-review-more-than-a-little-Spinal-Tap.html Two 4/5 reviews from major british press!
  3. That conversation about Mutt and the lyrics/solos yesterday was on point. If he's gonna tell Matt to be more direct with his lyrics, of course we're gonna end up with lines like "there are no countries left to fight and conquer, I think I destroyed them all"
  4. When I finish my exam tomorrow, the first thing I am gonna do is put this on at full volume.
  5. Maybe... but Stockholm Syndrome has a similarly meh solo and it's still my (and probably a few other people's) vote for best/favourite Muse song by a mile. And I'm not that bothered by the solo in the Handler, I still think the whole thing works really well.
  6. Citizen Erased smashes practically every single Muse song in a head-to-head IMHO, only TaB, SS and Exo can knock it down for me. Nothing on Drones has changed that, not even The Handler.
  7. Fuck it, I'm just gonna go ahead and say it. I don't care if this invalidates any future opinions I express on this board (which were probably invalidated long ago anyway). I can't believe it, but I like this song. I think it's great if you don't take it seriously, it's fun and it's catchy as hell.
  8. Quite ballsy to attempt this, and it comes off pretty well. I played it to a mate today who doesn't like Muse (and preferred Revolt to The Handler) whilst we were revising and he had no idea who it was
  9. I know there's a thread for reviews, but this is the main album thread IMHO so I'll post here. The second half has seriously grown for me since last night. Overall the album has given me at least three songs in my top 20 and (in Reapers and The Handler) 2 in my top 10 favourite Muse songs at the moment (and probably for a while). Dead Inside 10 Psycho 9 Mercy 8 Reapers 10 The Handler 10 Defector 9 Revolt (eventually) 8 Aftermath 7 The Globalist 8.5 Drones 8 It's definitely better The Resistance, but the songs off the final third mean it falls a little short of BH&R.
  10. A lot of the hate and disappointment about this album is all of Muse's making (and I don't mean just in terms of the songs themselves). I can't help feel that if they'd gone about the press and preview stuff differently (e.g. put Revolt as first single, leave Dead Inside and The Handler unreleased, refer to The Globalist as a prog nightmare but NOT as CE Part 2) then a lot of fans right now would be pleasantly surprised, and everything would be a lot more positive.
  11. A double album. The first half is a rock album, without cheese or Queen vocals. The second half is a massive orchestral dubstep space rock rampage featuring shitloads of cheese and harmonies and big strings and Unsustainable-esque "OOOOOOOHHHH"s from Matt. And terrible lyrics.
