Christ reading those T2L reactions was depressing, didn't realise how much it was praised when released. Only one or two voices saying what most of us think of it by now. Are we destined to repeat this cycle again?

One more week of relative calm and neutral opinion until the shitstorm begins

Thought the guys sounded seriously on point last night. Only disappointing thing was that we didn't get The Handler
-
Yeah, we've had that review/lyrics for a while now. Some of the phrasing and grammar might be skewed in the translation but I imagine that the actual lyric is pretty much the same.
As for the Queen comparison, I think a couple of sources have mentioned the song has big similarities to Queen so that's probably pretty accurate (especially given that small snippet of Queen-y vocals we heard in the Making Of). I'm not looking forward to that, personally.
See I didn't mind that little snippet of Queen we can hear in the vocals behind Matt talking, seemed like it fit the song in a weird way, what we could hear anyway.
But those lyrics are a bit out there

Ok so just had a read of the translated album review from Ouest-France (it's a fairly negative one judging by the conclusion) and the article includes the rudimentary 'post a line of lyric' in the paragraph of the song they are talking about and some of them are really strange.
Apparently this is a line in Defector: " Your blood is blue, your mind turned to green and your belly is yellow. " They also mention that the song is very Queen-like.
I really hope this is just bad translation, has anyone read this review yet?

its a radio 1 gig... I don't think we are going to get much. Probably the 4 Drones tracks we've heard and the usual's. Supermassive, starlight, uprising and knights with the harmonica intro.
That's what I thought, I think it will be a set of pure hits and they'll likely save the rarities for Download. I know people don't like the term "casuals" but if they exist, then Radio 1's big weekend would surely be the place you'll find them.

It's a festival though so it's about standard length really
I think it could be another Reading and Leeds deal, with the new tracks being omitted from the tv broadcast. A standard headliner set runs for around an hour and a half usually.
-
Agreed
I think people do it to kind of convince themselves that Muse's output hasn't gotten worse.
Mine would be:
I Belong to You
Madness
Explorers
Big Freeze
United States of Eurasia
I could have included a track from Showbiz but at least that album's weakest moments are the result of a band still finding their way. The poorer tracks from the last two releases come off the back of three stellar albums and I find it quite baffling.
-
Wow the Small Print and Take a Bow included on some people's lists....I could think of 5 songs of the last album alone which are far worse
-
I'd give that title to Exogenesis. Thankfully Supremacy also lived up to the hype for me personally.
I actually think Exogenesis was underhyped on the whole for how accomplished it ended up sounding. And still remains thoroughly underrated years later in my opinion.

For example, Muse produced TR and T2L themselves, but didn't mix or master any of them. And Mutt produced Back In Black, but didn't mix or master it.
I sometimes wish we got a closer look at the behind the scenes stuff. The videos they release each album really just talk about the recording process, which most people know about anyway.
-
I doubt Mutt mixed it though.
I'll admit im well out of my depth when it comes to stuff like this
-
Well he's produced more than classic rock.
I know but I still think what I said stands. I don't think a producer who's been working for 40 years+ would just "get the mixing wrong", people might not like it but I would say it's all very deliberate choices, whereas when it was Muse producing themselves there may have been a few oversights during the mixing process.
-
I've seen a few people talk about the mixing so far and how they're surprised it's the way it is with Mutt at the helm, but I think things like the subtle synth (which is no more subtle than the chorus to SS) are probably because of advice from Mutt himself. I can't see a classic rock producer liking the idea of arpeggiated synth being at the forefront of a track. It's probably why the guitar sounds so prominent as well I would imagine.

Write with your guts.
That would make for a messy rebuttal.

How can you hate on Mad Max? That shit was ace.
I get that it might not be certain people's thing, but "boring"? I'm wondering if I've seen the same film now.
-
Yeah I was pretty much with you til you said Fury Road was retarded. That movie is ridiculously good.
Edit: Wow then I read the rest....
-
I'm curious as to why people would think this isn't the finished song.
Other than that they want that to be true.
Well I don't know about anything else but the volume in general seems too high, in the downloadable file that is. Dont know if anyone else has noticed this?
-
Wow really dont understand the hate this is getting, Solid track imo

Weren't Muse in like the top 20 live performing earners on that Forbes list quite recently? They probably know most of their revenue comes from the world tours so there's no need to push the albums as much anymore.
-
It sounded like they were playing over a guide version to me. Hence why when the riff kicks in, it becomes louder. Plus that was ages ago, before the Psycho UK Tour, so it could well be a very rudimentary version that was heard. I get the impression that the live version is closer to what it sounds like right now. Truth be told, we'll just have to wait and see.
I hope so, sounded amazing at Newport, despite this guy next to me singing along like it was going to impress people he knew the words before anyone else (he didn't either).

Has anyone considered that the Instagram clip believed to be from Reapers (because of the riff) might actually be from a different song? The shouting/chanting of "Drones" just doesn't seem to fit with the dark atmosphere of the song; the distorted voice from Chris seems to fit much better. So perhaps the clip is from a later song (maybe Revolt or Drones) and it's a reprise of the theme but instead with all the defectors shouting in unison, proclaiming victory over the Drones.
Disclaimer: probably wrong, but I miss all the baseless speculation
I think it's the same song but I agree it sounds totally different and I said this a while back. The build up to the main riff in the clip sounds so much softer, like a completely different guitar. I think a lot of people are going to be disappointed with the studio version of Reapers to be honest.

I've heard it play twice here in the UK and no talk about it. No idea if it was in the Top 40. Strange that Muse receive more attention in some countries they're not from than the one they are.
I had to listen to Radio 1 on a job all day for 2 weeks recently (yes it was harsh) and DI was played at least twice, sometimes 3 times each day. The least I heard it was my second week when it was only played once on a certain day.

Reapers does have a distinctly classic rock vibe, whilst also staying appropriately Musey I feel
