Pitchfork to score it 3.7
Yeah why do they hate the band so much?
-
What's not to like about it?
^^This! Sounds like vintage Muse imo.

Wow, rude.
Lol ignore him, obviously being a rude cunt for no reason is his thing.
-
A Muse loving Liverpool fan? touche my friend...
-
Question is why wouldn't Zane Lowe promote the fact he is premiering Muse's new single? Seems like no one gains from a secret release apart from the die hard fans.
Then again they-who-must-not-be-named did it with their last album so I guess it can work.

My prediction for the album release: Thousands of drones will unexpectedly appear in the skies of the biggest cities in the world and will drop free copies of the album all over the place.
But will David Cameron tell us why?
-
You all just care too much.
I include myself in that bracket and I really don't know why either It's like a weird habit to check these pages a few times daily for info now.

Has anyone read Mahurins blog recently? What a load of pretentious dribble. http://www.mattmahurin.com/blog/
I'm worried about this cover if the same guy who writes this crap approves of the cover!
Oh my god the course I am on at university is full of people who write stuff like this.
"that mortal moment when another human being, from another time, was immersed in the same pursuit to which I have devoted my life—to create images which not only fulfill potential, but transcend existence.'
Fuuuuuuuck

I'm not sure it takes a "devout feminist" to find an issue with "you were too ugly to rape so I just beat the shit out of you".
No but most people would see it for what it is. Serious bait. Feminists in my experience do tend to lose their shit at stuff like this.

I wonder if "Another Brick in the Wall" was released today whether or not people would think the school children repeating the chorus in unison was cheesy. I understand it's not the same thing, but I think cheesy is the wrong word people are looking for personally
-
It already is a treasure hunt.
"0615"
6 + 15/3(number of members in the band) = 7
615/3 = 205. 2 + 0 + 5 = 7
Clearly the number 7 is relevant.
Wow.

With Madness it's almost the exact opposite for me, I can't stand the song when I hear it on T2L, but when a friend plays the live lounge version in his car, I find myself kind of appreciating the U2-esque ending haha
-
With Muse I've always found that If I initially like any of the new songs from The Resistence era onward I always later come to the conclusion that they are awful really. I.e I loved Supremacy, Uprising, Follow Me on first listens, only to later realise that they were fairly average efforts by Muse's lofty standards.
On the flipside, its the songs I have disliked/found boring after a first listen that have eventually grown on me and became some of my favourites eg. Animals, MK Ultra, Isolated System.
Maybe this new effort will follow a similar trend, as I too have my doubts over the whole chanting thing, we can only wait and see.

The "drones" shout is a harbinger of my cringing at least once during the new album...
Or it was a harbinger of a tonally consistent album of which the hooligan shouting is an integral part and in no way cheesy when heard in it's magnificent entirety.
...Yeah me neither

What's funny is I think people here actually expect to get a song called Citizen Erased II. Not even Muse would be that daft to call it that. It'll be something else in the style of CE and likely a direct continuation of it (as its been said already) but I'll laugh if its literally called CE2.This board is laughable sometimes
Except he literally agreed in an interview that he tried to write a sequel to Citizen Erased. Nobody is saying it's going to be called that, but since there isn't another name for it, i'm sure it will do for the moment.
-
I thought this is where people got the idea that Citizen Erased Pt II was coming.
People got the idea from the tweet, but nobody knew if Matt was serious because he constantly makes claims online (probably with the best intentions) only to go back on them in the future. The 20th anniversary tour being an example. It was quite possible he could have been joking and indeed I must say I personally thought he was, but his comments in this interview appear to confirm it.
-
Hmmm I wonder if Matt had done this German interview before or after he tweeted that person on twitter talking about playing "Citizen Erased II". If after, then we could still see it played live in the summer even if it doesn't make the album.
If it really doesn't fit the album stylistically though, I would much rather hear it as a stand alone single at another date. Really don't want another genre mix and match like T2L.
-
Matt's vocals have definitely improved since BH&R/TR-era but when it comes to live sound they've gone in a completely different direction.
I'm really hoping vocal distortion is used on tour because when it is, it's fucking awesome. Stockholm Syndrome needs it most. Some Absolution-era screams would be nice too.
versus
I agree he's gone in a different direction but for me it's the cleanest and most professional he's ever sounded live. His delivery of the Stockholm and Plug in Baby choruses are absolutely top notch these days.
-
I can't be the only one who prefers the random and (apparently) non sensical lyrics of the OOS era than those of T2L era that supposedly do make sense but sound ridiculous... "Brainwashing our children to be mean"....
Besides, I don't think Muse's lyrics are as poor as people suggest, not even close. I quite like ambiguous lyrics that could conceivably fit different scenarios.
-
I thought that clip sounded pretty fun, I like the bounce-y rhythm. Zero qualms about the backing vocals atm, I think some people are overreacting.
Absolutely, a 4 second sample of one line of vocals completely out of context and everyone is losing their shit. Let's just wait and see shall we?
-
Not really much different to the "oi" shouts in Uprising and everyone seems to get along with that just fine.
-
It does seem a bit early for tour rehearsals though, no? Just a bit. Unless the songs are highly technical and all written in 16/7 and 7/8
Frances the Muse confirmed

Some guy was posting in the comments of a Muse video on YT saying about how Muse fans often hype up the band more than any other set of fans do. I was about to post a rebuttal and then remembered the phrase "a real music game changer for humanity"...

Im not saying they aren't but as someone correctly stated on Instagram earlier, they've never made the same album twice yet they are routinely written off by Pitchfork each time. If you read the reviews, it makes you wonder if the guys themselves have made some slight at the publication in the past, such is their consistent, systematic dislike of the band. Your point about the Coachella snub only adds to this, that's just a bit weird imo.
