Any feedback if anyone feels like sparing the time? They're currently a bit sparse, as I have vocals planned, :) but I'm fairly pleased with the melodies. And I'm terrible at drums atm, I know :$

The first one is a bit more "anthemic," if that's your thing, there's trumpets and everything :D

Before you do anything else I'd sort out the timing issues with quantization, so many of the parts are completely off and it's super distracting. What are you making this all on?

  3.

    It's totally gonna happen now

    :chuckle:

But tbh, even if it somehow did happen, I'd think it was a little unfair on those that didn't get a chance to see it because of location/venue size. One show isn't really enough for something like that, too many people/hardcores would still miss out

  4. I would put in a mega riff. As it stands to gets to the edge, looks out over the edge, puts down a blanket and has a picnic at the edge, but never goes over the edge. I think some sort of climax would do the job. Plus, and this is just a personal thing, how about making the lead guitar sound a little more fucked up, a little static fuzz?

:chuckle: So too much edge. Ok! And I could indeed try that fuzz, I shall

There's a riff I could put at the end but I'm a little worried it'd suddenly become a huge Oceansize ripoff, I'm aware it sounds a lot like them and other bands already..

It's really strange saying this but there is a band I know that used that exact same chorus riff in the chorus for one of their songs. Thankfully they don't play it anymore nor are they popular enough to be worthy of a mention  (I got their drummer now, they lose out)

That said, I love it. It's got a kind of Radiohead/QOTSA mix that works. I am happy.

Oh no! Is there a youtube link of said song?

Thanks man  I certainly think it could end up pretty good but I feel like it needs something at the end, whether that be a riff or whatever

  5. This is one of my favourite things I've used Ableton for that just wouldn't have felt easy or natural to do in other DAWs:

    nd6yk2fxSeM

This is awesome! How did the Wii controllers work?

I've been an Ableton user for a few years now and while I first used it for electronic music I now use it all the time for your standard guitar, bass, drums rock/ acoustic music/ stuff in general that's not electronic and I love the workflow.

The past year or so I've been trying to get into Protools (have to use it for university etc.) and while it has some cool features that Ableton doesn't, I find that Ableton's GUI is much easier to navigate around and it seems to do a lot of the simple things much better/ easier. For example; basic routing/ bussing/ grouping or even just inserting and using plug ins.

That being said, I would probably like to make the change to Protools sometime in the near future once I properly get the hang of it...

Oh really? Fair enough! I guess like with most things it just takes a while to get used to different interfaces/ways of working

  6. I've used Ableton a fair bit too for triggering instruments and samples live mainly but also for a few more experimental bits or messing around with things that need a more immediate hands-on kind of approach.

Yeah, Ableton seems to be used more for electronic type stuff rather than tracking? I've gotten that impression anyway. A couple of my friends at college have it, on first glance I thought it looked seriously cluttered, but they seem to think it's far better than Logic in terms of workflow..

Surprised at the lack of love for PT :( Cubase seems surprisingly popular, to me at least. Thought there'd only be maybe one or two people that used it

I'm surprised by that too! Never really got on that well with it, wasn't a huge fan of the VSTs that came with it either. Plugins were ok though I guess.

I thought you used Logic Dom? Or is that just me remembering things from ages ago..

  7. Wanna chat about DAWs? I knew you guys would :awesome: Maybe not the most exciting thread, but hey..

So what/why do you guys use? I had Cubase 5, but I've just changed to Logic as my college only uses that - means I can college work on Logic at home etc.

I really dig Logic, it looks far better than Cubase 5, and I reckon I have a much faster workflow in it as well. Just makes more sense to me in terms of layout

  8. Lyricist is the one who writes the lyrics, songwriter is the one who writes the song (which might have lyrics or might be instrumental). Songwriting can include lyrics, but saying "songwriter > words" is wrong.

So where does a composer fit into that? It's hardly wrong, it's just not necessarily all of their job.. plus, he put it there to use it as a feature of songwriting that separates it from composing, not to say that that's all they do.
