  1. It's great to see more users speaking out against abuse and unpleasant behavior. Just because certain users are not always called out for bad behavior does not mean that it is acceptable. Hopefully we can move towards a more pleasant, welcoming community :)

  2. Quite pretentious to invalidate opinions you don't agree with because they're subjective. Your opinion isn't any more objective just because you care to explain what it is that you like about it.

Not sure if this message was meant for me.. if it was, I certainly wasn't saying it is alright to invalidate others unexplained opinions just because they're subjective. I certainly do not condone such practices too.. and of course, all opinions are subjective, aren't they?

My point was just that we should all respect each others opinions, for everyone has a right to it; but I feel that we should explain our opinions, otherwise it wouldn't make for constructive discussion..

  3. And if I may, the good-bad distinction is one that is subjective? Of course it is arguable that there are objective methods to evaluate a piece of music, but I think these would be technical. In my opinion, what matters most to us as the consumers is that we enjoy the music, isn't it? And that is certainly subjective... but it definitely helps to explain why you subjectively feel that a song is good or bad... maybe you dont like DI cuz you prefer a more rock-oriented sound, for example.

  4. He's allowed to say if he thinks a song's shit, just as you're allowed to say it's great.

We don't have to justify it. Do you have to justify why it's good?

Why, of course you're entitled to make unjustified comments. But I don't see how they are valuable then? And as educated, intelligent individuals, I think it's not too much to actually substantiate your points, especially if you feel strongly enough about it? Otherwise it might as well be a mindless conversation of "I think its good" - "No its not" - "it's good" - "it's not" etcetera

Damn, I wish messageboards had voteban feature. Some people are way too toxic, even by Muse Messageboard standards.

Agreed with both your point and your reason.

  5. Definitely in a lyrical sense. Matt said The Handler is 'quantum entangled' with Showbiz, meaning (I assume) that the two are on the same subject matter but possibly from opposite perspectives, Showbiz being about feeling controlled and The Handler being about being the controller.

Perhaps, but Matt also did say something about it being a "question and answer" with the lyrics... it could be a dialogue of sorts then - be it between a controller and the controlled, or between two inner voices of a single person?

  6. Right, so like I did last year, I'm listing everything that has been said about each track on this little blog post. Only a week (probably) until we get the leak, but it's nice to keep busy...

Let me know what I've missed!

Thanks, was a good read. On The Handler referencing Showbiz, could it be in the lyrical sense instead of the sonic sense? Translated lyrics from the Rockol interview:"I will not let you control my feeling again (…), I’m escaping from your grip, you will never own me again". This does make one think about Showbiz' lyrics (controlling my feelings for too long...)

  7. ??? are you joking

Deep ecology is literally the entire album. It's about the inherent worth of human beings being more important than their instrumental utility to an ends, and calls for a radical restructuring of society to support this ideology. Literally the entire narrative. Human life and servitude is not to be trifled with.

You nicked that off Wikipedia

  8. Your childish antics are verging on annoying.

Thanks for acknowledging MY point that your antics are childish. I was merely imitating you to highlight the immaturity of your posts.

  9. Everyone already knows what you think, no need to remind us.

Everyone already knows your style of unnecessary posts, no need to remind us of what you're (in)capable of. P.S. Sent you a pm. Do respond if you're capable of rational discussion.

Anyway, back on topic, forgive me if someone has already brought it up, but this is the first time we're having the first three songs of an album as singles, isn't it? (That's assuming "Mercy" is indeed the next single!)

  10. making fun of people who portray emotion in text in a way that you don't approve of is getting really dull.

Thank you, Tjet. Fabri really fails to understand this point. His childish antics are verging on annoying.

  11. Stop being off-topic.

Oh come on, get off your high horse. I'm sure posts with nothing but a single smiley, which you seem fond of doing, are so on topic. Well they aren't off topic, but only because they are meaningless and unconstructive.

I just made a joke in response to other posts on this thread. If it wasn't funny to you, fair enough. Just don't respond then! Why do you need to respond when you have nothing better to say? I daresay its you who brought the thread veering off topic.

I'll stop posting because it is admittedly off topic. You, on the other hand, stop your nonsense.

  12.

You're too nice, fabri, returning my smileys with more smileys. Not sure if you're a parrot with nothing valuable to add, but I'll assume you're just being nice and I'll reciprocate.

  13. Just like on Origin of Symmetry.

Yeah, thanks, that is good to know. I wasn't making a value judgement based on the presence of the strings and hammond organ though. I was merely pointing that out in response to jj's statement that "two minimal synths were basically the only things that were "added" to the three piece formula". Though he later clarified that he was referring to Dead Inside.
