I figured I'd have a nice periscope to look forward to at work. Guess not -
Tool just got done playing amphitheaters with loads of lasers and production, so there's really no excuse. If they're not going to be playing TaB in America, it'll be because America.

I do remember those polls, and I don't recall the specifics but I'm assuming it was possible for people to vote as often as they wished regardless of if they were even attending the show, completely skewing any kind of results. It also seems like the band willfully ignored most of the rare/surprising songs that did manage to sneak into the top 5 for some shows. Also, it doesn't make sense that Muse routinely play some of their "deeper cuts" or whatever at festivals, where you would think there would be a much greater presence of "casual fans" than at their own headline gigs or whatever. Nothing about this band makes much sense. I'm not expecting them to all of a sudden start letting 15,000 people at arena gigs vote for songs, but surely there's something to be said for the results of some 1,500 fans zeroing in on a list like this one.- 3,483 replies

^The fact that nothing from 2007+ made the top 10 vote list kind of suggests otherwise. Anyone could have grabbed tickets to the SBE show and placed a vote, casual/hardcore/old/new/whatever.- 3,483 replies

Yeah, I kind of refuse to believe the sets they tend to play to Americans are actually indicative of what most American fans would want. They actually did used to play decent, if not great, sets here back when they played clubs. I have faith that can happen again, despite those Psycho US shows not being nearly as good as the UK ones. That being said, Showbiz didn't have much of a splash here, Origin wasn't even released for years, and Absolution saw a delayed release as well so it's hard to fault American fans when Black Holes was the starting point for a lot of people.- 3,483 replies

Yes lol. I was hoping it was going to get into the ~10 riffs territory that they did in LA some years back. Even if most of them are typical, riffs are part of what makes Muse, well MUSE, for me. If they don't take a majority of these songs into the sets going forward, they should at least take the energy. It's refreshing to see the band so lively for once.- 3,483 replies

Did Cave not really get many votes? And if not, why? I know it was played in that neutered piano version just a couple tours back, but still.- 3,483 replies

Eh, Australia has tended to get some of the better setlists on recent tours, iirc. I'm not sure if they're necessarily bigger in Oz than the States, but they have been arena status there for at least 10 years. They will absolutely play better shows there. It can't just be two, either. That wouldn't even be feasible to bring all the production for two shows.

Seriously fuck this band. They soundcheck about a half dozen songs people would kill to hear and then churn out the same plodding boring nonsense for the actual show? It's frustrating that Muse have the potential to still be at the top of their game but they're willfully choosing to be otherwise.

Cool, that's a big ole not happening on the CW performance on youtube. Even an unlisted/private video flags a copyright claim from WMG. Seems like the audio/video matching they use to compare to uploaded videos is a lot more sophisticated than I thought. I tried.
