  1. yessir, that was me. eh_D = Eddie. My stealth machine should be here by end of the week
  2. You're talking to a guy that drilled through a headstock for the pin on some new locking tuners. Talk about :'( That's hands down my worst moment working on guitars.
  3. My take on that is that you still need some angle across the nut, even with a locking nut because you're tuning the guitar with the nut unlocked. My big pet peeve is seeing people's fine tuners bottomed out, I am secretly judging them. You could get there without a staggered set of tuners or adjustable posts, you might want to run a fender style string tree if the B and E strings get way out of line on you. Unless strings are squarely in their groove, locking them down will make them go out of tune (almost always sharp). I always loved the floyd string tree bar setup simply because they gave great angle across the nut. I guess the one exception I can think of is the goofy locking nut behind a normal nut setup, and that would mean extra great tension across the actual nut because you'd mount it lower down the carve.
  4. It's kind of complicated. So, my plan was to evaluate the stock ones and swap to some duncans or maybe a BKP set. I was under the impression that the JV came with the texas specials but on the first play it was really just lifeless and just didn't impress me. I pulled the pickguard and it had two normal mexican (glued on ceramic bar magnets) and an umarked pickup in the neck. I wasn't that upset because the guitar itself was freaking awesome, built in 1998 and lightly played. The neck is really figured and it's almost like a roasted CS piece with the natural age on it and the vintage tint fender sprays them with. Frets have plenty of life and it has the big trem block. So I ordered a set of the texas specials and got them in last night and started to set it up. I figured for $100 I'd give it a shot. After exactly one hour of play time I can't be any happier. I also have a mexican standard strat with a blue, silver red lace sensor set that I'm really happy with. The Texas Specials are more focused and clear to my ears. I don't think the fat maple neck can take all the credit for the tone but your mileage may vary.
  5. Jimmie Vaughn strat followed me home. Had visions of a David Gilmour build but got off track when I found out someone had beat me to the pickup swapping. Now she's a late 50's theme blues machine. Rings like a bell! I didn't need another strat, but need isn't really a concern in this game is it?
  6. Shoot me a PM, we might be able to work something out. I've got a delivery from Manson's inbound and I need to move some stuff around or my wife is going to freak out.
  7. I agree that if you use it a lot or you're heavy handed the switches won't last. The mechanism just isn't robust enough.
  8. So Tim Stark posted this yesterday and I've been wondering if I should opt for the killbutton for the black out effect on my stealth MA. I didn't care for it at all on my MBC-1 and actually fitted the toggle to it. ...but the upper horn on the MA is smaller so it may not annoy me as much? I know that James has had the button on his last few. Anybody have any thoughts? I guess I could always just fit the toggle myself down the road if it bugged me that much.
  9. I've got some random bits that I want to see if you guys have interest in. I can take photos at your request. I think these are below eBay prices. 1. Ibanez RG Kaoss - transparent black. I know the KP mini doesn't have the true SMBH settings but it's a blast to play with. $275 shipped to the US. I always wanted to upgrade the pickup but haven't had the time. No case or bag but I'm not a clown and it will ship secure. The hold function for the pitch and delay settings are so good and usable it makes me mad at people for not using them on the Manson touch pad guitars. 2. Fernandes Dragonfly Pro with sustainer. Transparent red with flame veneer. 24 fret, all original. $375 shipped to US. No case or bag, also clown free shipping. This is a guitar with a working sustainer with standard and hi versions for your riffing pleasure. I have access to a Brother label maker and I'll make you a off on and hi low decal 3. Fernandes FSK101 board and full size HB driver. $65 shipped. Needs a battery clip and stereo jack when you install. It was working when it was removed from a guitar getting EMG 81/85 set No guarantee from me beyond that it worked when a tech pulled it out. I wanted to put it into my MBC1 but haven't had the time for the woodwork (route to make room in control cavity and maybe neck route or buy single size driver) I may not sell this to you if you don't have any posts about soldering or working on your guitar.
  10. If they are solid nickel covers that will actually polish out, nickel plated will eventually wear through. Mag wheel polish and careful masking of surrounding areas is what PRS recommends believe it or not. https://www.prsguitars.com/csc/care.html
  11. I always ream the control holes a little when I pot in a brand new pot or switch because you never know if you're going to push the finish up. I'm with Cider but I've taken a drill to a brand new US PRS too, so my opinion is meaningless if you're not comfortable with working on things.
  12. Glad I'm not the only one! Did you use any washers other than the ones that came with the switch? Sorry I never posted pics of the wiring or measured anything for you. I suspect we will see more of these as it's mega easy.
  13. Cider, I bet he's using some really quality cables and claiming the grounding issue. People like that make selling online miserable. Back on topic, the two blacked out switches on your Cort will look epic!
  14. Tall people should just play bass! Krist from Nirvana and his low slug Gibby's are iconic
  15. No reason you can't push it back in. Just be careful, it's not like the pots or the switches or plastics that fit with a fastener.
  16. You'd still need a washer. The long shaft hardware is for carved tops usually. I'd love to measure it but it's not at my house. The diagram on the cort site has the dimensions of the kill button. The two way wiring would be like the button of its a single pole, single throw.
  17. The washer is plenty big to cover the gap with the switch that I used. Your mileage may vary. Even my PRS has some play in the holes, if it was too tight you'd push the finish away from the hole while installing the hardware. Washers are your friend! I don't know about a two way switch, I bet they make them with that size a mini toggle is going to be too small.
  18. You honestly can't get it backwards. Your new switch may not have the terminals bent this way. But just be gentle and they move easy.
  19. No, I didn't pry from the front, I pushed against the back of the switch. Full disclosure, the hole is slightly oversized so make sure you get it centered before you tighten the nut. I did reuse the wires but you have to prep the switch differently than if you were using in on a les paul style setup.. I also chose to not re-use the housing ground that screws to the body. There is a very simple diagram out there of how to set up the switch. I don't have it handy. Don't tell me I am going to be the one that starts this trend Amazon Prime for less than $10
  20. Very easy. I was worried about marking up the front of the body so I went really slowly. I just used a screwdriver and once I got a gap around the top of the switch I rotated it a little by hand. I didn't get a pic of the wiring but here is what it looks like. P.S. I think you did freaking awesome work on your Gibson P90 swap.
  21. I put a normal three way on-off-on killswitch in my black one. I'm shocked that we've not seen a rash of these as easy as it was.
