  1. It got a Grammy nod but it didn't have holding power as an album. Regardless Madness still charted far better than Uprising or any other single they've had in the US and elsewhere

    OH... Good for Muse

  2. ??? Muse are pop rock to the general public, they make singles that chart. Most of the random singles that come out after the album never get airtime anyway

I found the last album died really quickly though, compared to resistance at least, every one knows Uprising, Resistance and Undisclosed, but people only know Madness and are like "Oh, that was muse?"

  3. Hate me now, but I like T2L ! and I like some songs on resistance as well. on the other hand, Showbiz and BH&R aren't among my faves :D

You have some of the best posts, I always pause to analyse them.

  4. Actually, in general i don't feel like muse singles do well, only one off T2L i ever heard on radio was Madness, somehow quite a few people knew Panic Station (best track off the album) but I don't know how and I forgot Supremacy was even a single.

  5. I've heard Dead Inside on Radio One a few times now and hearing it amongst the rest of their playlist, it kinda stands out how very theatrical the vocals are.

is this thing doing well as a single? I mean by muse standrads it's poppy, but it doesn't scream chart topper.

  6. I do too.

That choice of words, it definitely strikes me as something he could have heard or read about himself. As in, how he'd be viewed in general, rather than by someone in specific.

It's the whole point of the lyrics, really. That what someone shows or looks to the others isn't exactly what they are like inside. She's "ablaze and alive" but dead inside; in the end he's "the greatest guy" but also dead inside. Basically, empty shells.

It's a lot more honest than many of his other more grandiose lyrics which get lost in their themes and come out as archetypes, but this, though not the most eloquent he's been at least has a point and some depth.

At least it's better than "birth squeeze".

  7. You're completely right, especially since this is the album opener. The song starts out with the electronic voice so that probably put a lot of people off, but there's no denying the last 2 minutes of this song are rockin' as all hell.

As an amendment, I'd like to add that I still think this is a kind of transition track between TR/T2L era and Drones, like they made it sound like a stripped down version of something that could appear on T2L and used it as the opener and lead single to tease/hint like the beginning of New Born

  8. I think the reason this song has been such a grower for everyone is that it was not what was expected. Matt said that they'd strip back their music and go back to basics, so three piece, which dead inside pretty much is. People just assumed that that also meant rock and psycho made us think this was confirmed and then we hear dead inside and it's like "whoa dude, this is not rock", but it is stripped back... so... yeah... it's good, but ppl didn't get that at first cos they were dissapointed it wasn't Stockholm Syndrome version 2.0

  9. Hey guys I just had a thought about how people were complaining Dead Inside isn't a good album opener, maybe there's an alternate edit of it for the album what has some sort of better beginning that jsut the backstreet boys style "Dead Inside" , like intro to apocalypse please but on the same track, but they got rid of it for the single. Maybe far fetched, but an Idea. Also this could be featured on a physical single (I'm not getting my hopes up for real B-sides)

  10. I think when you factor it into the narrative of the album, to me at least, it becomes much better and thought provoking.

And also, this has become my favourite song in the past couple of days and that scares me.

I totally agree with your first part, I rationalise all my issues with this song by think of it as part of the story, It helps me not dislike it lyrically and stylistically. I just think it could do with a more poignant beginning.

  11. Dead inside is really starting to grow on me, I'd say I like it better than Psycho now, but not as much as Reapers. It's got a nice groove to it, but kinda goes nowhere with it which is a pity...

  12. But was it actually the actual video, or was your actualisation actually your actual opinion?

I actually think there is an actual music video to be released at a date yet to be actualised. Actually, actual trends indicate it will likely actuate within months.

    Actually?

  13. This songs sounds as though it'll be a very safe song. It sounds like its in the style of showbiz with a touch of queen and overall seems rather simple and we can be pretty sure it'll be good whereas things like the globalist and Dead Inside are more experiments that may go any direction. Kinda like TSP on absolution or Bliss on Origin. Which is a track slot that has kinda been missing on the last two albums (at least T2L, everything is an experiment there...)

  14. He doesn't, he said "Perhaps"

    Ah... embarrassing for me...

Regardless, I kind of hope it isn't because the cover in IBTY is the biggest turn off in that song for me. I'd like Muse to either compose songs or play full covers (like Feeling Good or Prague) instead of half-assed ones like in IBTY.
