Google translated from here: http://www.onstageweb.com/recensioni-album/muse-drones-cose-da-sapere/
I feel like GLobalist has had nothing but praise. I'm hyped.
-
Assuming a vinyl LP for this record will hold only 15 minutes of music for Drones (although its capacity is 20 minutes odds are Muse won't pass 15 minutes on each side), that would mean that the length of the title track directly correlates with the length of The Globalist, and we've heard various reported track lengths:
The Globalist: 9 minutes --> Drones: 6 minutes
The Globalist: 10 minutes --> Drones: 5 minutes
The Globalist: 11 minutes --> Drones: 4 minutes
The Globalist: 12 minutes --> Drones: 3 minutes
So far, I trust Chris's 12 minute track length description more than Matt's.
I kind of hope it's a sweet little 1-2 minute track like Outside the Wall which I think would work with the Globalist as it sounds like it's this album's The Trial
-
Remember when this thread was about Globalist?
awww I was so young
Globa-what?
-
They do?
I find most songs aren't Morricone-inspired prog rock tracks, just plain old poprock like TIRO
-
It'll at least sound pretty. Everything Muse does always does, even if the lyrics are about Matt taking a dump.
*See Muscle Museum
-
Surely that's why they're representative (if they are)?
I suppose I'm just approaching this differently, I was interpreting this as the "quintessential" Muse track, like the most generic among muse, most muse songs don't sound like KoC, they sound more like TIRO or New Born

The 2nd Law: Isolated System
The 2nd Law: Unsustainable
Panic Station
Liquid State
Supremacy
Big Freeze
Follow Me
Explorers
Save Me
Madness
Survival
Animals
Prelude
You forgot Liquid State

As much as I think it's overrated, CE is the archetypal Muse song.
KoC is the the most Muse song. It has pretty much all the elements that they're known for. Falsettos, arpegios, big riffs, rebellious lyrics, big track for live stadium tracks, oh and a trumpet!I don't really find either of these tracks that representative though, I suppose they summarise their discography, but they are both very unique muse songs
-
what on earth warranted that?
NME

Explain to me why it's cynical to think that a song that has been overplayed, has been overused as a closer and has a tacked on 2-minute waste of fucking time that was only barely cool the first couple of times (the harmonica) is shit and/or boring? Explain it to me in a way that doesn't include your own opinion.
Hey, man I'm not looking for an argument, I'm saying to each their own.
-
NoNot at all!
Let the cynics have their opinions
-
Yes it does. The harmonica is shit and so is KoC.
Well then... Alrighty
-
Still 10 minutes it's too much, they'll just make it unnecessarily long. Hope im wrong but the only interesting part will be the Helsinki Jam riff.
Well it's about the length of Knights with Man with a Harmonica which doesn't feel unnecessarily long
-
I have some hopes for Aftermath, like that it may sound like Blackout or something, but really my expectations aren't too high, I'm anticipating some weird version of explorers.
(See what I did there? Hopes... Expectations... I'm so funny! Also lonely...)
-
It's a shame the outro wasn't longer, sounded like quite a good riff.
YES!

- Dead Inside: Much akin to Execution Commentary.
- Drill Sergeant: Not much, just some guy screaming at you about Amazon drones. Also something about condoms.
- Psycho: Your ass literally belongs to him now.
- Mercy: A stranger version of
- Reapers*: The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy theme song.
- The Handler: feat. radiohead
- JFK: JFK screaming at you about Amazon drones.
- Defector: Dead Star pt.II. Easily the best song on the album.
- Revolt: just fuck me up bro
- Aftermath: Guiding Light pt.III
- The Globalist: The song that everyone likes for some reason
- Drones: The sound of Amazon drones flying in and out of the warehouse. This lasts for four and a half minutes. Nothing else happens. The end.
*have yet to hear it so i dunno*
pretty close
- Dead Inside: Much akin to Execution Commentary.
-
I love the way he describes Mercy, it's even funnier in french
-
And barely says anything about whether or not it SOUNDS good.
They don't seem to think it's very good, nor did the french reviewer
-
I have hope for the last three tracks, but between this and the french one, my hopes have diminished slightly for everything else...
-
Based on all we've heard, The Globalist is starting to sound more like Knights of Cydonia 2.0 than Citizen Erased considering the Moriconne inspiration and lack of a verse chorus structure (if that's true, i think someone mentioned that a couple of pages ago)
-
I don't mean to be forward, but I have a couple of nit-picky corrections if you don't mind.
" During the song's mid-section, [Matt breaks out into] a solo [à la] Angus Young. A wink from the producer? Was this intended to be humorous? Apparently it was not intentional."
Also that line about irony at the end is a question not a statement "Unless there's supposed to be a hint of irony to it all?" I think would be more accurate.
-
Isn't it 'Rhythms of greed'?
Visions
-
Can someone post the original french article? I don't feel like sifting through all these pages...
Nvm, found it...
-
I'm interested by this song I assume it will be odd, I still don't know what to expect though

I love Muse, but they cannot make The Wall or anything of that calibre
