  1. Ringtone? Mine has been Queen's Breakthru just about as long as I've had a cell phone. I also have that as one of my alarms in the morning, paired with Weezer's Across The Sea.

There are definitely tons of Muse songs that would make great ringtones though. Maybe I'll set one up for a specific person...

It feels that Compliance got drowned, maybe released too quickly after Won‘t stand down? But maybe it‘s only ecause there‘s not much talking about it atm, no wonder without interviews, tv appearances, PR in general.

But, it‘s climbing on the indiecharts in Austria … http://indiecharts.at

I wonder if they saw that early headline about it being an anti-vaxxer song and thought it best not to over promote it to see if that critique would fade away.

So a general sum up of gig info:

Won’t Stand Down - Matt did screams, some big harmonics during the chugging before the last breakdown

Hysteria - crowd sang the main riff, School (or another Nirvana riff) + Back In Black outro

Pressure - Matt got a bit loose and did some variations of the verse riff

Compliance - guitar very similar to Dark Side live, Matt played the Knight Rider bridge, lovely A4s at the end, seemed v happy with how the crowd took to it

    Supermassive - Foxey Lady outro

Assassin GOB Edit - holy fucking shit lmao

Psycho - outro for either this or Assassin (can’t remember which) was a riff that so far nobody has said they recognised, the band were smiling at each other while playing it so wondering if it might’ve been something from WOTP

PIB - got a bit emosh

Bliss - also got a bit emosh, keys were a backing track, Matt did a similar whammy sustain intro to the 2017 performances

Knights - Dom played keys during MWAH in Morgan’s absence, thought I couldn’t escape it as a closer UNTIL

    Stockholm - Execution Comms outro

Agitated - immense, Matt tried to smash his guitar against the roof at the end but just unplugged his wireless pack a couple of times lmao, gave it away at the end, whole band stayed on stage for quite a while just shaking hands/signing stuff/giving away anything they could from the stage

Probably played for about an hour or close in the end, which isn’t bad for a free promo gig. Energy didn’t stop either so I was pretty ruined by the end anyway. Best experience of my life, hopefully getting their signatures tattooed later today 👀 had a lovely chat with Chris outside for a while as he had a smoke, Matt’s reaction to the Jeff Buckley bootleg and our chat made my life

Footage will be released on Youtube, Compliance first then “hopefully” more later, production company said they’d try to put the whole thing out if they can.

A riff a whole crowd of hardcore Muser said they didn't recognize... oooo... okay I gotta know.

Looking at the set list of today’s show, I wonder if they ever deliberately try to write a song fit to replace KoC as a set closer, or if they’ve just accepted they’re stuck with it forever.

I guess will see if We’re fucking fucked qualifies.

It's definitely one of their best options when choosing a closer. Better than Starlight a la Live At Rome Olympic Stadium.

  5. Man everybody knows the GOB edit is the superior version of Assassin! That's wicked! Odds they'll keep it in when they finally kick this tour into high gear and come to the US? Definitely a lot of great cuts in that set, though I'm not sure opening with WSD makes a ton of sense outside of just promoting the new single. Jobby was there? How awesome dude, I hope you had one of the best nights of your life! How was WSD as an opener?

  6. You know, fans are gonna whine who are gonna whine, but like... it was just a couple years ago we got basically everything Muse recorded between 1998 and 2001 (which is a lot) all put together in one stellar package.  There's more than one album's worth of great Muse material that didn't make it onto Showbiz or OoS in there.  For me, who hadn't heard most of it before (aside from a couple B-sides and singles and a long long ago once or twice listen though Hullaballoo that I barely remember),  that's basically two great "new" Muse albums released at once.  Just saying, if you end up not liking WOTP and hankering for Muse to return to their older sound, it's pretty easy to go back and revisit that treasure trove instead of complaining that Muse aren't what they used to be.

Or you can just complain, I guess that's what the internet is for anyway.

  7. There’s the possibility that Matt’s in a “songwriting slump,” but when I pair that with the reality of how much I love Compliance, Something Human, Break It To Me, and most everything on Drones, I just don’t agree! He just doesn’t write much like he did when he was 19-20 something, and why should he? He’s like pushing 50 now? He’s got a child who’s well out of diapers, he’s rich and lives in Hollywood. The days of Rocket Baby Dolls are passed. Matt has a much different lifestyle now and it would seem to be the one he prefers. I’m just here for the music man. Muse rarely let me down, and even when they do they come back and surprise me with something as great as The Void.

  8. Oh holy cow there is a longer version of compliance. I swear it’s mixed better too, even just listening on my phone speaker, lol. Also that extra few bars for Matt to give us goosebumps in a nice falsetto over a classic amuse chord progression before going into the final chorus build…. I needed that. Perfect song.

  9. Wow so much to say!

So. 37 minute album, based on a screenshot from how reliable of a source? I’m gonna assume it’s right, but I would like to know if that’s a confirmable source or not. Anyway, 37 minutes. Many of my favorite albums of all time fall under the 40 minute mark. Back when vinyl ruled the world, that was pretty standard, and ten tracks all around 3-4 minutes was also pretty standard. Muse have made a lot of weird, non standard albums in their time. Even ST had that whole disc of alternate versions. For them to sit down and focus on making a tight, catchy, pop rock record in their own way is actually a new twist for them. On the flip side. Having now heard 20% of the final album, I’m not gonna be listening to any new singles. In fact I may stop visiting the board until release day when the next pre-album single drops. Only reason I listened to so many singles off of ST before it came out was because they were sooooo spaced out and I didn’t really love the first two anyway. I’m on board with WSD mostly, and I am full throttle on board with Compliance. If it were a whole album of Compliance and the heavy bits of WSD I’d be absolutely in love, even at the shorter length. Sounds like there’s probably going to be a lot more variety (which is what I do expect from Muse), so I’ll just be on the edge of my seat waiting to hear what styles they bring back and what styles they still write well.  Waiting to august will be hard, but someone made a great point about the vinyl backups and shortages possibly pushing the release date back. I totally get that, and I do prefer it when digital and physical releases aren’t separated by more than a few days. I’ll absolutely be preordering one of those fancy colored vinyl packages with the signed art cards! I’ve not much use for cassettes, but I’ll think about the super deluxe. The only thing that really bugs me is a headline I saw about Compliance being a possible anti masker song, which is going to do them absolutely no favors on social media or with the major YouTube critics (who haven’t generally been positive on them in over a decade anyway). I’m fully expecting to read a bunch of people who’s opinions I respect trash this record while I adore it to bits. T2L round 2? It may be my least favorite Muse album, but I still love just about every track on it. 3rd favorite band and only one that’s still kicking, let’s go!

  10. I wonder if the leak was planned! I mean, after all, it was leaked out by the actual director of the music video in 4k. I wonder if Muse weren't sure how lyrics and themes might be misinterpreted, or maybe had a debate about issuing a kind of thematic clarification statement (like they just did), and asked the director if he could leak the video for a few hours so the hardcore fans would find it and write about it before giving it a full global debut.  I mean, let's not look past the fact that this very forum is on the official Muse website, provided for us by Muse themselves. I think we'd be foolish to believe they don't pop in and take a peek at what we think from time to time.

Album is Will Of The People, we’ll presumably get album details either tomorrow or within the next week or so as well.

Hope everyone’s ready for Psycho Tour 2 btw, here it comes

Actually??? I've somehow managed to miss every chance I had to see Muse in the past, and if there's another old fan favorites theater/club tour I'm buying tickets immediately. Would be an unforgettable first Muse concert.

  12. Okay I am absolutely done talking about lyrics and responsibility. That is what the kids call a certified bop. Catchy as all heck, I love the mix (could use just a touch more bass, but I suspect it may sound better on the record than in the video), the synth tones are so gloriously round and proud, and yet they pull me in rather than push me out. The filter on Dom's drums reminds me of The Dark Side, which is a great song. Love the bridge, maybe wish it was longer but whatever.

This is, by every measure other than riffs, better than Won't Stand Down.

  13. Well well well, this is all very cheery! 😅

Is it at all possible Matt's going to try and write from there perspective of people he doesn't agree with?  Not like portray the "villain" (hate to be using that here we are talking about real people, however misguided, but for narrative purposes...) as the protagonist, but just singing from that misguided and militant perspective to try and better reveal the cracks in its own philosophy? Like maybe Will Of The People is about people protesting mask and vaccine mandates, but narratively the song will go in the direction of showing that this "Will Of The People" is informed by crackpot news anchors and conspiracists rather than science and compassion, and ends up leading many of those same people to their own demise?

Or is that too difficult of a tightrope lyric for Matt to write, and instead he's just going to try and blend a variety of social issues into one song with some gestural slogans and easy to misinterpret references to the unrest that has become our society's daily life?

This looks like a hoax, right? The songs are the words the fans found out from the engravings, release date … so late?? 🤔

    https://genius.com/albums/Muse/Will-of-the-people

Seems fake to me. Only 8 songs, and Won't Stand Down as the closer? I know Muse have definitely made some unusual decisions in the past, but I just don't think Matt, Chris, and Dom would feel satisfied with WSD as the last track on an album with so many epic closers under their belt. (even T2L has a great closer) Definitely fan made jumping the gun if for that reason only. I have no doubt that all of those are song titles, and I do wonder if maybe there are a few other song titles people haven't quite found yet or are discounting among the other words written on that possible album cover. Also, August release date... I feel like if they were touring this summer the release would be in April or May so they could play the album. If it is released as late as August, Muse are being one of the most cautious bands about getting back on the road "post" covid. I just don't see a tour without a new album to promote happening.

I’d say Drones. Which might not be as bad if you take Mutt Lange out of the equation.

I dunno, Drones has killer production and some of Matt's best guitar work. It's a bit ploddy, but it doesn't have anything like the verses of WSD... which are pretty meh instrumentally.
