Honestly I’ve got massively mixed feelings. On the plus side, it’s obviously more energetic than Dig Down, so it instantly grabs your attention more. I’ll admit I’ve caught myself singing the “You’ve been bitten by...” melody a few times today (even if I keep nearly slipping into Smooth Criminal). Those occasional wavy sci-fi synths are something I’ve wanted to hear from them for a while as well, weirdly.
It’s so ‘Muse’ that it...feels like it isn’t, if that makes any sense? The uncreative dissonance + 4-bar bass lead in, pretty generic riff, uber vague dystopian lyrics that don’t really say anything, falsettos that just repeat the title for a chorus, faint piano trills in the pre-chorus, uninventive + short whammy solo all smack of what your average kid with some moderate ability in recording software might slap up as a fake leak. Just with some 30STM backing vox and faintly Fall Out Boy verses. All it’s missing is a synth arpeggio.
Basically this. Although at least it leaves me feeling slighlty optimistic. Really dig some of the sounds. Hoping they won't slip to the "T2L-scattergun" with sounds again though. T2L had too much stuff going on, Drones was too thin at some points... need to get the balance right.

Sometimes I feel like people on this board get stuck too much on the lyrics. Like, come on, it's U2 as fuck, but the music is at least good.
Okay, fine, now that we've gone this far, let me say this:
Great songs on T2L: Animals
Good songs on T2L: Supremacy, Panic Station, Survival, Big Freeze, Liquid State, T2L: Unsustainable
OK songs on T2L: T2L: IS, Madness, Follow Me
Fuck off: Prelude, Explorers, Save Me
-
Am I really the only one who digs T2L? Like, again, it's far from the best stuff they've done but it's not complete garbage like people seem to say.
-
1. OoS
2. BHaR
3. Abso
4. Showbiz
(Hullabaloo disc 1)
5. T2L
6. TR
7. Drones
T2L, TR and Drones are basically interchangable imo. I just put them in that order based on how many "good" songs(in my book) there are on the albums and how frequently I listen to them.
While T2L isn't for everyone, I genuinely like the experimenting. Tracks 1-7 are all good or at least well above average. I don't hate Madness, I'm just bored of it. Basically the only really weak point of the album is Explorers, with maybe the topic of reversing the order of Unsustainable and IS thrown into the mix for good measure.
TR would be great if it wasn't so boring. I don't know if it's the sounds they used, the mixing or what, but Resistance especially lacks the huge layered sound the guys can usually produce. And that's kinda bad considering it's the title track and #2-slot on the album. Tracks 6-11 are basically straight fire.
Drones is... I don't know. I really like the music, but I kindasorta hate the lyrics. People might say Psycho is fanservice taken to a too high degree and that Reapers is just silly, but I dig those songs. The lyrcis are where the letdown is for me, especially mentioning the fucking god damn shitstain Drones in every fucking song.

Endlessly. Fucking hell it's better than I remembered. The chorus just kicks ass.
-
This is an example of Micro Cuts in 2016:
.
Jesus, okay. That's bad. Here's the one I got
It's not the best audio quality, but the only one that's on youtube for that gig. Imo, he did pull it off preeeetty well.
-
So, with all that 'his voice broke' talk, any guesses what really happened? Because, to me, the high notes in Showbiz in Reading still were almost, if not absolutely, flawless. Yes, there was some vocal dist thrown in there, but still, if his voice would've been broken, I don't think he would've hit them at all. Plus when I saw them in 2015, they played Micro Cuts, which, again, yes, the chorus was distorted, but he did pull it off.

edit. okei ja back in black oli kans hauska!
Haha, joo ei ihan herännyt Ja kyllä, olin myös itse Readingissa! Myönnän ihan ilman häpeää, kyllähän siinä silmät kostui kun kuuli "Controlling my feelings for too long..." ja tiesi että no nyt. Vielä junassakin täytyi pidätellä vähän itkua, oli se jumalauta niin hienoa. Them G4's
Itseä ei sinänsä setti haitannut, koska muuten meno tuntui hyvältä ja soundit oli mielestäni paremmat kuin aikoihin. Ja olihan Back in Black ja Take a Bow myös helvetin hienoja, sekä Stockholm Syndrome, jota itse diggailen kovastikin.
-
I know I might get lambasted for this and how generic it is, but anyway.
First demo of a so far unnamed project me and couple of my mates have started. Pretty much alt-rock with a bit heavier vibe, but not enough(imo) to call it alt-metal.

They played only their biggest and easily likable songs. Meaning the easy ones. Knights of Cydonia, Time is Running Out, Hysteria, Dead Inside, Madness, Supermassive Blackhole, Stockholm Syndrome, etc....
What's missing: Showbiz, Megalomania, Muscle Museum, Screenager (Rachiminov version), Microcuts, Hyper Music, Fillip, and Cave.
You new here?

Wait, does MB have a third meaning?
I meant I thought it was originally Matt's setup, as I keep forgetting that Chris switched over as well. I might be wrong though. Is the DBS rack mount? I couldn't get a good enough picture of it from where I was.
Yes, MB can also mean Markbass and afaik Chris used their amps for a while
And uh, I think the DBS can be rackmount? Mine is in a solid protective case of it's own, but as Chris at least used to have at least 6 of those, I'd assume they'd be on a rack setup.
-
He's using the kempers. I got a picture of his rack setup (thinking it was MB's ) and there aren't any Marshalls in there at all. Not even empty ones.
So he doesn't have even the MB's in there anymore? Eh, I guess he's made some better profiles then, sounded soooo much better than usually.
-
'Cos HT&ILY is so good it puts the others to shame?
Oh you.
-
Soo, does Chris run his sound through amps anymore at all? Or, to put it in a different way, has he brought back some amps? In approx. 2012-2016, I thought his sound was fucking weaaaaaaak. But after seeing them in Reading, it was, imo, much better. Thought he might've changed the setup again.

Showbiz:
Showbiz, Muscle Museum, Sunburn, Fillip, Uno, Cave, Unintended, Every other song in the album
I personally think most of SB is fairly meh and can't really rank the latter end of the list in all fairness
OoS:
Space Dementia, Micro Cuts, Citizen Erased, Futurism, Hyper Music, Darkshines, Bliss, Plug in Baby, New Born, Megalomania, Screenager, Feeling Good
Rating songs on OoS is hard and unfair, I personally love all the songs on the list from SD to NB. The last three are good too, but they've never been on the same level of greatness for me.
Hullabaloo:
Ashamed, HCM, The Gallery, Recess, Yes Please, Nature_1, Forced In, Shine(A) Shrinking Universe, Map of Your Head
Absolution:
Fury, Stockholm Syndrome, Apocalypse Please, Butterflies and Hurricanes, Interlude/Hysteria, Sing for Absolution, TIRO, The Small Print, Ruled by Secrecy, Everything else on the album
Kinda same as with SB.
Black Holes and Revelations:
Assassin, Glorious, Map of the Problematique, Supermassive Black Hole, Take a Bow, Knights of Cydonia, City of Delusion, Exo-Politics, Invincible, Starlight, Hoodoo, Soldier's Poem
The Resistance:
Unnatural Selection, Uprising, MK Ultra, I Belong to You, Exo 1-3, Resistance, Undisclosed Desires, United States of Eurasia(+ Collateral Damage) Guiding Light
The 2nd Law:
Supremacy, Animals, Prelude/Survival, Liquid State, Big Freeze, Panic Station, Unsustainable, Madness, Isolated System, Explorers, Follow Me, Save Me
Drones:
Drill Sergeant/Psycho, The Handler, Reapers, Dead Inside, Mercy, JFK/Defector, The Globalist, Drones, Aftermath, Revolt
Non-album songs(probably forgetting some):
Dead Star, Easily, In Your World, We Are the Universe, Execution Commentary, Nishe, Agitated, Host

Everyone seems to be buying these, including MB himself. Am I missing out?
https://www.ehx.com/products/green-russian-big-muff
I doubt you're missing anything, or a lot at least. I tried one(on bass) and I still prefer my three black russians any day.
-
That fuzz could be pretty sweet on bass. Depends of course on how well it reacts/tracks on bass with the octave effect.
-
Anyone ever play a starcaster bass? Been meaning to try a shorter scale bass for some time now but no one around me seems to stock 'em.
If we're talking about the same thing, yeah I've tried one once, did not like it at all. Might just be because shorter scale is not for me. But I'd give it a shot if you really think shorter scale could be your thing.

If my slightly tipsy ears aren't playing tricks on me, Hysteria bass tone has been tweaked again. Just thought it sounded a bit better.
