  1. I guess, the way I look at it, they're not replacing songs like SMBH, Starlight, etc and honestly, it's my own damn fault for watching 100s of bootlegs that I'm sick of those songs in the first place.

Shit, I've only SEEN the band three times. Why should I be tired of seeing KoC live?

I'd personally never tire of KOC live as it's a ripping live track and it's the song you know won't disappoint when they perform it. But that's probably just me.

And maybe it is indeed just me- my favourite band of all time is Iron Maiden and I've seen hundreds of bootlegs and seen the band 14 times to date, but I know that by their standards we're for sure going to hear Number of the Beast, Fear of the Dark and Iron Maiden. All 3 songs are fucking cracking tracks (FOTD in particular with the crowd chanting. And I don't get tired of them because I both know they're not going to drop a those songs any time soon (though NOTB is arguably more expendable) and because that's going to be a lot of people in that packed arena's first time hearing it live that night.

Same thing goes for Muse. Knights, Map, Time, Supermassive, Stockholm, Uprising- those are undisputably the most recognized Muse songs among the mainstream and not everyone travels to see Muse live- hell some will end up only seeing them once, ever. Muse obviously can't please everyone. I know that's not an argument against spontaniety, but it is a reality and if Muse take comfort in knowing they'll get the crowds worked up with those songs, then good on them. Same way Maiden know the crowd will get worked up from those opening notes to Fear of the Dark/

What I'd rather have, is the band work in some older songs in with the standards, even if they stick with them every night.

I mean, I'd love for Fury, Assassin, SfA, Showbiz, CE, or any other fan favorites to be staples for the tour.

Play the songs you "have" to play for the masses, but throw the fans a couple of bones, and be consistent. Don't just do it on 2nd nights when you think the crowd "deserves" it or some shit.

I'd like to say I agree with you completely- I definitely agree with bringing some older songs back and making them staples. How fucking awesome would hearing Muscle Museum or Thoughts of a Dying Athiest regularly?

Thing is I think last tour they did a great job at eliminating (or at least lessening) the "second night syndrome". Newer songs like Animals showed some longevity in the arena portion of the tour and even became a staple in the stadium tour showing that they're all for making new classics too. Rarities like Yes Please and Agitated becoming regulars was pretty fucking cool too. But as I mentioned earlier, they did that because they wanted to and not for the sake of "throwing the fans a bone". If Muse are going to bring some rarities back, it should be because they wanted to and not because they feel the need to please the fans or because the fans want it. Unless of course they see a fan with "PLAY EXECUTION COMMENTARY" sign and decide it'd be fun. But that's something different. Though we all know they won't play that any sooner than they'll play Falling Away With You.

As Tjet said in another thread,

No need for more rarities imo. 1-2 songs where the crowd goes completely dead is enough for me.

Unless they're gonna go all out and just sing whatever song pleases them and not the fans, in which case I'm all for more crowd killers to save Muse as a live band.

  2. The Sao Paolo gig will be in the exact same date of ENEM (24th October), a national exam made by millions of students of age around 15 and 20 mostly.

This will lower the sales by 20% at least, I would say. Only in the first day (25th May), half a million brazillians have already subscribed for the exam. This weekend, 24th October, is absolutely focused on ENEM. The whole country goes on and on talking about it.

Again, it would be wise to change the date.

Contact anyone and everyone you can about this. Maybe we can reach the responsibles.

    That's shit :(

  3. Oh, those weren't really campaigns though, were they? Just the odd gig where a fan would bring a sign requesting a song.

I heard it was part of some campaign but I could be wrong. I do know Muse do play songs from audience signs, my friend was at the Mayan gig and held the PLAY HYPER MUSIC sign up.

  4. It's not spineless to want to make your fans happy. If anything, it's spineless to pretend you're going to, and then not even attempt to follow through with it.

Yeah but it's another thing to play a song just because some fans will act like their fucking lives are over if they don't hear it.

I wanted to hear Sunburn at both gigs I went to, didn't fucking happen, was glad I even got to see them in the first place.

Playing the two B-sides in 2013 on the stadium tour was something did because they wanted to.

  5. I'll be honest, I hate it when bands give into "fan campaigns". It reeks of spinelessness and I'd rather the band just do what they want.

I was at the UK gig of the Metallica By Request tour last year in Knebs, and aside fom Whiskey in the Jar, no other rarities were played.

  6. I feel like there were about 6 months between when I bought tickets and the gigs (in the US)?

There was 4 between when I got tickets for the Edmonton gig and the actual gig if I remember correctly. The presale system worked like a charm though.

  7. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jKUZVx9DHzM

Lord knows what's going on in the beginning, and his guitar has a tone that rivals GSK in this intro.

Matteh also used the wrong fuzz in during the first part of the DI intro. And the mix was just off in a lot of songs, which is obviously not audible to them, but still.

Ouch, that was painful to listen to.

Not a bad performance but that white noise fuzz at the beginning...

  8. It's pretty standard for them to announce US gigs only a few months before they happen. It seems like in Europe it's more like 5-6 months out for whatever reason. I've always thought that they could get more people into the US shows if they went on sale for a longer period of time.

As a side note, I've seen them in a different venue every time they've played Detroit/Michigan since 2004. I expect this tour to be the first repeat venue. There's just not a lot of other options.

That's because the majority of gigs in the US (and Canada) are organized through Live Nation. Additionally, only two countries and not much else in terms of planning to do, which makes it easier to announce with less time before the gigs.

With EU, you have tons of different promoters, and it's more work- and people are more passionate about concerts in Europe, too.

  9. Bastille were genuinely the most boring, dull band I've ever seen

Clearly you weren't at the Barcelona gig. L.A. were... alright I guess, nothing to sneeze at but nobody I'd pay to see either, but You Don't Know Me were fucking terrible. Some Spanish Coldplay clone. I have never seen a crowd look more bored in my life, and this was in fucking Spain.

Though I'll agree Bastille are boring and dull as fuck. There are things Id do, awful, inhuman things, to be able to unhear that autotuned chant or "IF YOU KLLEEEWWSSEEE YER EEEEYYYESSS".

  10. I know Matt said it but I don't see that happening at all, since they've already said they would be playing US arenas around that time and that just seems a lot more likely. I think they'll play UK/EU arenas in spring 2016.

I was thinking though, there's an awful lot of dead space between their Mexico and South American gigs... maybe they could try to work the NA arena gigs into that time space.

    Mercy

So hyped for Mercy and I must say it didn't dissapoint. I like the juxtaposition between the upbeat instruments and the depressing lyrics. Its definitely exciting with every song so far having a markedly different sound. It bodes well for the album overall and I can't wait to listen to it all from start to finish.

Sounds like Starlight on acid. Not bad. Will probably grow on me.

  11. Schedules for Rockavaria and Rock Im Revier have been announced and both of them say Muse are playing from 9 to 11.

Two hours, really? We can only hope.

sounds realistic. their sets usually range from 95 to 115 minutes.

  12. theres much better ways to relieve the tension, disappear off stage for a quick dump, or run around the stage with a super soaker/fire hose and dowse the crowd with water! or just play some crazy old school songs which don't require any lyrics.

Seriously tho, yes, gigs can be stressful, so why not take away all the strict choreography that has to take place which ought make the gigs more liberating and spontaneous aka fun.

I'm referring to on the album.

  13. This is certainly an unpopular opinion by the looks of things here, but I certainly think that Follow Me is a brilliant live song - When the chorus kicks in, the bass is brilliant.

Guiding Light isn't too bad live either. The Resistance Tour version I saw was great because of the streamers at the start of the solo, but I think the fact that on the Unsustainable Tour they played it on the B-Stage made it seem more intimate.

Of course, there are better songs, and I have been very fortunate to have seen Citizen Erased, Bliss and Dead Star live, among a few others, and they are certainly superior songs in terms of song writing and in live performance in comparison to the likes of GL and FM.

But the hate that Follow Me and Guiding Light get (especially the former) I think is kind of unnecessary. They are good fun live, the both of them, and Follow Me really does get the crowd going.

The only issue there is really, in my eyes, is that there needs to be the rarer/heavier/hardcore fan pleasers in the Setlist, and since the end of the Resistance Tour, there has been more "Rare" songs in the Setlist.

Of course, this is my opinion, and if you don't particularly like the songs anyway, there isn't really anything I, or anybody, can say to change your mind - I just think they are better live than what people give them credit for :)

Admittedly when you hear GL live, the only thing you really can do is just overdramatically air drum to it and sing along. That's what me and the two Spanish guys I was next to did at the Barcelona gig, haha.

I love Follow Me live, really. It's such an energetic part of the show and hearing people clap along to the heartbeat was nothing short of chilling.

I'm not sure I would want GL as a "staple", but Follow Me would definitely be a good staple for me.

  14. Feeling Good is the one song for some reason I don't feel guilty bitching about... It always felt completely out of place on OoS anyways, like a semi-lazy filler track, and I just don't get its popularity.

I mean, seriously, bringing it back last year for the stadium tours, and putting it on the movie release?

I know I'm being hyper sensitive, but sometimes that feels like a slap in the face for the fans hanging on hope for something like CE (not that I remember that being "rotated" with anything recently...) or DS, or any of over a dozen other hits.

I suppose there could be fans going home disappointed they didn't get to hear Feeling Good, but I kinda want to believe there isn't.

I'm biased as hell against this one song for some reason. Maybe because it "isn't Muse" in my head.

I do think though that given how tense the songs it's sandwiched between (and the ones before it) are, it's a nice little break from all the tension.
