I used to really, really hate Darkshines.
Then I heard it live.
Mind. Blown.
I loved it at first, and until I saw it live, I hated it. But now I love it, and it just brings back memories of that gig.
-
I guess it's because 'titbits' contains the word 'tit', eh? As my nan would say..
It's political correctness gone mad! -
It's tidbits? Not titbits?
MY WHOLE LIFE HAS BEEN A LIE
-
I'm sigging it all without permission, because I'm hardcore.
-
I guess, you could say,
There can be only one.
Oh you.
-
I think it's more that people are annoyed at how good they could be if they put in that little extra effort, which they generally don't, so instead of mind-blowing Muse we get good Muse. You make a good point, though.

Bumpity bump
I find Hysteria a bit boring. I like it but I really don't understand why it's some people's favourite song.
Album version and earlier live versions were great imho. Now.... not so much. I actually prefer the pre-absolution live performances of Hysteria.
-
I hadn't seen it either! One of the few TIRO performances that comes across as awesome live. Everything about the vocals in that was great
I think my main problem with it live is the guitar doesn't sound beefy enough. Like maybe he should just do power chords in the chorus, and then in the second verse which sounds massive on the album, doesn't quite do that for me live...
I'm probably talking shit here, but if they transposed it down to Drop D (if you even can change it to that) or even Drop C then I think it would sound better live, and Matt probably wouldn't find it so hard to sing, he seems to have been struggling lately. But yeah I agree, the guitar has never sounded as beefy live as it does on the album. Although, I think there were at least three guitars in the album recording, which explains a lot.

Well...nothing too special. But the screams at the end
Yeah, you're definitely right imho, I hadn't seen that performance before, but that's the best version of TIRO I've ever seen.
-
I've always loved TIRO since it was the first Muse song I knew' date=' but I've never really seen a live performance that does it justice. I'll try and find one now[/quote']
Yeah same, it was the first muse song I properly liked, and if it wasn't for it I probably wouldn't be into them as much as I am now.
What?? D: say it ain't so!Well, what happens a lot with broadcasted performances is that they're edited after it's been aired, and this may have been the case here, especially with the two different versions of Bliss from the same show that that version of Hysteria was played.
-
The bass in TIRO at HAARP was just shit
Oh I know Ruins the performance a bit, for me. That said, unless I've actually been at the gig, I haven't enjoyed a TIRO performace since, well, 2004, oddly enough. Not including Glasto 2010, which was great.
-
Haven't heard of that. Tbh I think they still use as much, just Morgan flicks them on and off.
Never noticed that Live 8 footage though! Was quite surprised. I imagine Bellamy was going a bit crazy with his performance, but for the DVD they wanted a 'proper' performance like the studio version so put a guitar recording from a previous performance over the top
I think one of the oldies mentioned it in another thread. It was basically things like, instead of Chris playing the TIRO bassline properly, he'd just play the clean part while they used the distorted stuff from the album as backing etc. And yeah, that's what I thought about the Live 8 stuff too.
-
2:19 is some kind of sustain/repeat effect they used on matt's line, and this thread hasn't turned into "Best Playbacks of Any One Song," right?
No, I think it's the vocoder-y backing. I should hope so anyway! Although it was known that during the absolution tour they were using a lot of backing tracks and such, and it was only after pressure from fans that they stopped doing it.
-
Playback? It can't be. I knew about Muse before Live 8, but this performance was the reason I got into them. My love for them is based on.. a lie. I feel my soul crumbling (no pun intended) a bit.. oh dear! :'(
I don't know, one of them just seems to be edited. Perhaps the people doing the TV broadcast overdubbed parts of the performance or something. I expect that Muse were actually playing live.
-
looked at 'em again, and it seems like some of the videos have another audio layer on top
this one, for example:
1. at the beginning, it sounds like he's scraping down from the top of the neck--definitely not what matt's playing.
2. notice where his hand's at at 2:30--definitely not the riff you hear
3. you can hear a second guitar doing a bend at 2:36--probably what matt's actually playing.
Wow, you're right actually, that does look like playback, especially at the beginning and the riff before the solo, like you said.
And I see what you mean about Bliss too, it's odd. There's definitely something funny going on there, haha.
-
aren't the performances from that gig playback? was watching hysteria at live 8, and matt's playing doesn't match up with the sound at all sometimes--the riff right before the solo, for example. would make sense out of why the guitar didn't sound farked up at all even though he twipped
I don't think so, it was probably just lag on the video uploaders' part. I'm pretty sure Bliss wasn't, it was different in a multitude of ways to the album version, it even had the falsetto But I'll have a look at Hysteria.
-
The only reason I don't like the Reading one so much is because of how fucked up the sound levels are' date=' but once the riff kicks in..phwoar[/quote']
Yeah, the mixing kind of ruined all of Reading 06's performaces for me, although I'm fussy about things like that.

So, with the OoS gigs now confirmed to be featuring OoS from top to bottom at Reading/Leeds, do we think the US fans attending Muse shows between now and then going to be treated to a few rarities? Dead Star, Space Dementia, Hyper Music, maybe a bit of Showbiz?
Maybe some from OoS, but I wouldn't expect much, if any from Showbiz. I think the few songs that ever got played at gigs that were from Showbiz are about to become very few and far between.
-
Yes. Ah, I remember jumping up a whole foot when his guitar came back in <3 Good times
Yeah, without the bridge, US would be nowhere near as good as it is live, although it is a bit tedious on the album.
-
liking this debate ^
These spambots man.
-
Matt's voice on most of the songs on Showbiz is horrible! He sounds like a whiny teenager -.-
Â
He pretty much was. And although I disagree, as I like his Showbiz-era voice, on Sober it is kinda horrible.
-
Muse robbed me at Roskilde. And then they robbed me again, first night at Wembley.
You went to the second night as well though, didn't you? If so you also got one of the best shows of the tour, if not the best.
-
Matt Bellamy is a pretentious dickhead
You just.... don't really like Muse at all, do you? Although the pretentious part is probably right, but at least Matt knows he is.
-
My controversial Muse opinion:
Muse are a great rock band who put on amazing shows, create fantastic music and do care about their fans.
I think HAARP gets a lot more flak because the CD kinda sucks, especially due to the mixing, but imho the DVD is great.
