  1. there was some sort of quiz last time round, before 2nd law was released?

What will it be this time? any ideas?

Maybe all those recent snippets we got belonged to one song, first single.

There is evidence that every bit of the recent 3 or 4 belong to the same song I agree. Whether it's the single or not we don't have a clue. I would hope so as it seems to be something heavier if its on a 7 string. When was the last time Muse released a properly "rock" first single? Stockholm Syndrome?

  2. Warchild HD Director's Cut is the best mix/production going imo.

You know which one is surprisingly good for not a main show is the Austin City Limits festival. A bit heavy on the bass/drums but my god is it good on a good surround sound setup with the levels right.

  3. Yeah it was a rhetorical question.

I'm not sure you are. Matt DID do the Survival ending properly on a number of occasions before dropping it. And since Showbiz probably wouldn't play Showbiz as a regular if it was brought back, he would definitely have been able to do it back then.

The point is that we don't know because we don't know how Matt's voice is changing until we actually hear it. I think the next album will tell us if he's still able to do it.

Maybe not, the next album might not feature any falsetto for all we know. Wouldn't mean for sure that he isn't capable. Just that they chose not to use it. Like I said we have zero evidence I just know alot of people might want this to happen. Maybe they'll see this thread lol. That was the point.

  4. It does?

Anyway, Matt showed that he could hit the note back in 2012, and used a more yelling technique to hit sustained higher notes later on. But of course that will already be 3 years ago once they start touring again,

But he could just lower the note to an F#5 and play it without that much difficulty.

Actually on re-listen the two chorus ones arent too strong, but the last one well...yeah. And yeah I'm aware of all this. I know he can hit it but how comfortably. Look how the ending to Survival went over live, always dropped down a bit. So thats probably to be expected if they tried Showbiz.

  5. Based on zero evidence, I just know that this is one fan favorite that hasn't been brought back around yet where alot of others have seen some light the last two tours (more-so the last tour). While others are begging to see Showbiz again. Surely Muse knows this?

Is Matt able to hit that high falsetto comfortable enough for this song? It has strong falsetto in 2/3 of the choruses and of course the big one at the end.

  6. This. Best venue ever. Showbiz from this, or Bliss, would have been great.

I'm not familiar with the gig but since the whole gig is released pro shot why would that be good? They usually gift us things not seen yet, like Megalomania at RAH in proshot or Dead Star at V fest pro shot. I'm waiting for SFA at Wembley 07. I think they half assed the xmas gift this year because they spent too much effort and time giving is a blu ray with all the best songs cut.

  7. "Muse linked us a video they released 6 years ago, be grateful"

This so much. It's like when people defended the Muse bank unlocks as "hey at least they're doing something for us!" when actually no they're just linking us to stuff already out there. This kind of crap since bank of muse is literally a joke and I never thought it'd happen to the yearly christmas present. Every previous one was something for the die hard fans, a rare song pro shot or a previously unreleased pro shot. Or the Supremacy live audio before we'd had much live footage of that song.

  8. Holy shit someone else used my file and it didn't sound glitchy as shit. What's everyone else doing different then?

Prob used a whammy 5. Every cover I've seen that sounds a bit off (including mine) were all on whammy 4 and all sound the same.

  9. I'm not sure if this topic has ever been talked about or brought up by anyone but theres a ton of evidence that suggests that he wrote Unsustainable (aside from the orchestral and choir parts that are obviously Matt-ish)

I remember being around the forums when the teaser trailer came out with it as well as the release of the video in July or June last year and then when the making of for the album came out (where all the evidence I have comes from) I've never seen anyone bring this up.

I'll explain why I think this. To start, we know pre album release Dom was the one who got Matt and Chris to go to a Skrillex concert and see electronic and dubstep music first hand. It's been noted that Dom was the one that showed them that influence.

We also know from pre-album interviews that Uns was written electronically on a program like Abelton or something else first and then they learned how to play it with real instruments and convert it to guitars etc. (the opposite of follow me, written with instruments converted to electronics).

This is evidenced further by the making of video.

    enkCQdNRGj0

2:33 in this video you see Dom working on a computer with what sounds like the original raw electronic version of the song (like I said written on Abelton or something like that with midi instruments) 3:08 shows more of the original electronic version.

After this alot of the rest of the making of video involves them trying to match their instrumental versions of it to the electronic version literally learning how to play it as they record it (as said in interviews). 3:19 with chris doing so, 4:55 listening to the recording along side the original seeing it match up. They discuss this as well in that scene.

Then you see every part that Matt plays on his guitar doing the same thing hes looking to Dom for instruction. 6:02 Dom has to pretty much tell him how the verse goes on the guitar and the fact that he has to leave a bigger gap for the whammy notes in the verse. From 7:44 on every bit Matt plays his facial expression is totally unsure and he is looking to Dom while playing and Dom is nodding saying basically thats it.

Big wall of text write up I know but I didn't wanna ask and have people be like wtf are you talking about and then have to explain it. But yeah I feel like watching the making of and knowing everything else from interviews its pretty obvious.

  10. Finally got around to editing a video for my full cover of this song. All orchestral parts done with a synth and all guitar parts covered with whammy 4 via midi thanks to Dom for the file! I threw in some sections with the robot from the music video as well lol just for fun.

  11. Nono it is Matt's voice, 100% without doubt. Dom does the "into the supermassive", chris does the glacier bit with Morgan. They may be layered as well, but "ooooooooooooooooooooooooohhhhh ahhhhhh" is matt then after the ahhh on HAARP there's another fainter "ahhhh" that is him but not him if you get what I mean

basically yes, vocals are added on a little, at least in post.

Of course electronics and some drum triggers for a bigger sound are involved, but as you said that's understandable. I still doubt that Morgan does as much as they imply

Oh I know Morgan doesn't do THAT much I've seen him mime a bit even lol. Seems like he played alot more on the last two tours but then again those songs weren't really as complex as some of the stuff now.

  12. I can't think of any parts where they'd need to layer some pre-recorded guitar parts in songs? I mean, with Bellamy's rig he can blend different amp tones and all so surely if he wanted a beefy tone he could just rely on that? Really he could just rely on one!

Vocals they do, unless they were added in afterwards, like on HAARP in SMBH they add "ahhhh"s in the chorus, and also another synth kinda thing

Morgan Dom and Chris also sing on SMBH live as well as Matt obviously. I don't think any of that is tracks. I would understand the drum trigger thing and the obvious electronics, synths and orchestras, but I've just seen too much live Muse and watched at an analytic level (especially when tabbing live improvs to songs) that theres just no way its fake.

The fucking cunt in the article wrote something about it being impossible to run across stage while playing a riff and I think he does that now in Plug in Baby? As well as the spins. And its obviously legit because its an easy riff. Maybe its time the masses just realized hey Muse actually has world class musicians as opposed to other bands out there loaded full of mediocre instrumentalists.

  13. Yeah they fuck up way too much to be miming. I mean I still think they exaggerate quite how much Morgan does but it's still obviously a live performance. Talking out his arse

I was thinking the same thing. Also after watching pretty much every live video on youtube for the past decade there's so many subtle variations and improvs matt does with songs live both in guitar and vocal that comes across matched exactly to how he's performing. Its completely bs that they use play back. Obviously they use tracks for synths and orchestras and all the electronics and stuff duh. But thats it. And theres definitely no use of multi tracked guitars like the article is saying. Like I said too many random variations improvisations that are different each performance that itd be impossible to have it tracked.

  14. 2:05 sounds like the sound I hear when I get bombed in galaga.

Yeah idk what that is. Could never avoid it sounding like that. It's not as noticeable through an amp but when recorded direct input it sounds shitty. Guess if I played that note in a diff spot itd sound fine but its really high pitched when they play it live and playing a 9 on G doesn't sound right either.

Audio for my full cover of unsustainable. I did all the guitar tracks, my brother played all the orchestral stuff with his synth. Video coming soon when I have time to edit.

Edit: Should've listened to it before I uploaded. Just noticed how loud the first synth track is lol. Have to lower that at some point and reupload. Oh well for now.

  16. Can you send me the midi file please ? :D

    thanks :)

I sent you my whole cubase project folder. If you don't use cubase just snag the midi file from it. Dom made it although I've tweaked it a bit. Credit to Dom though he did 98% of the work lol.

  17. Cheers! that would be awesome :awesome: and thanks again for all the help dudes :D

edit: Dom just watched your cover again, fucking awesome :facemelt: Loving this song at the moment after seeing it on saturday :awesome:

Yeah live it really shines. It has become one of my favorites mainly for that middle section. It's so good live.

  18. Yeh just checked they're all active :) I think its time to say...my midi file...is a heap of shite... most likely caused by me breaking it at some point in the past

Yeah idk something is up. When I'm home I'll send you my whole project. It's all set up to play. You'll just have to select your midi cable in the output and it should be fine if your whammy is back on channel 1.
