  1. Really? Damn, that's a problem. The code comes in a little card. Mine was stuck with one of the vinyls, I almost didn't notice it.

I received mine in the deluxe packaging. It's a card with a code stuck in the right hand vinyl sleeve. It's probably stuck in the cardboard.

The card was shoved way down between the print and the vinyl in the deluxe, but it was in there.

Probably the only thing that was in good shape, in mine. :chuckle:

    And still haven't downloaded it...

Thanks for the info, it was stuck in the sleeve all along. What a stupid place to put it...

  2. What happend to the Flac files?

I ordered the deluxe edition and there's a code for a digital download with both FLAC and mp3. I don't know about only the digital, but I guess it's that as well.

Actually, that's a good point. I never got any download codes with my deluxe edition (at least, as far as I'm aware....)

  3. The set list was real good but it wasn't perfect for me. First half was epic, then they just played their hits. I'd much rather SMBH and Uprising were replaced with the likes of Muscle Museum, The Small Print or Hyper Music for example. Anyways I'm just glad it went down well

Slipknot were way overrated all weekend though. It did my nut in. Every radio station around camp, every stall, every bar, etc was playing their stuff. I use to like them but they are just a headache now. According to their fans it was no where near their best performance either. Glad it rained and I gave them a miss.

See, I thought that at first, but the set made perfect sense in the context of the festival. It started heavy, to prove to the non-believers that they could pull it off, then when everyone was hooked, they went on to their hits/new material. When you think about it, a lot of festival-goers who don't really know Muse that well wouldn't know anything other than the singles, plus the band have an album to promote. Besides, the first half was incredible enough, it made up for it!

As for Slipknot, I did notice them getting overplayed, but then they were one of the most anticipated/hyped bands of the weekend, so it makes sense. Plus Download is pretty much their usual demographic. Even in the rain, their set was worth it. If anything, the rain made it even more epic! Although going back to the tent was horrible, but it's one of those experiences I can look back on, and laugh about.

  4. I used to think OoS was nonsense, but since Drones has been out I'm thinking there is a similar, overarching concept between the two albums. One Matt wasn't honest about, because it's quite personal and twisted, though I think a lot of his early lyrics are of this ilk.

I find OoS is about lost love, of the young and highly obsessive variety, which ultimately drives you crazy. New Born sets the stage for this theme, to quote Matt, it's about being born into an alternate reality which is explained in the following songs.

Bliss is about being romantically obsessed with someone. They seem perfect, like the picture of happiness and success - blissful - and so you find yourself wanting to be exactly like them.

Space Dementia is similar. We say someone is "lost in space" when they live in a fantasy land (or an alternate reality), such as worshipping someone who seems perfect. The term "space dementia" refers to the sensation of being in space for so long that looking back upon the Earth (reality) drives you insane.

Hyper Music is where that longing turns into anger. The lyrics here are where the concept begins to solidify for me. "Your golden lies feed my role" - she led him on. "This forgotten space race under my control" - living in his own private reality. Then in Plug In Baby, he turns to music as an outlet for release.

I haven't settled on CE yet. It seems to be about losing your innocence and naïveté to someone, like a romantic partner. I think there is a lyrical connection between this song and The Globalist, just as I suspect Drones overall might be a heavily metaphorical retelling of a relationship. Again, parallels.

"Truth's unwinding, scraping away at my mind." This leads PERFECTLY into Micro Cuts, where the obsession turns into nightmares. The 'nonsense' lyrics, frenetic pace and twisted ambience all reinforce the idea that this song represents a detour into insanity.

The last few songs is where the concept goes a bit haywire, but across those seven songs I think there is a very consistent theme. Again, like Drones.

Holy shit, I never actually thought about it like that before! Mind = blown!!!

  5. Just got back from Download, my god what an incredible weekend it was, and Muse were absolutely phenomenal! I think that'll go down as one of my happiest Download memories. Such an amazing setlist, and everything was spot on. I don't even care that it turned into a typical Muse gig by the end, they'd already dominated by that point!

During the day, the mates I was camping with said they weren't sure about seeing Muse, and they weren't really into them, and had never seen them. I convinced them to go in the end though. By the time it came for Muse to arrive on stage, I was pretty much on my own, but loved every second of it. Afterwards, when I met my mates again, they all said how amazing the gig was and that they "were on another level" (two of my mates even hugged me.) Then after that, it was a night of partying and getting drunk!

All I can say is, I'm so fucking proud of Muse! :D

  6. The weather predictions are getting worse

It keeps changing CONSTANLY, and different sites have different forecasts. It's really starting to annoy me tbh. BBC currently has light rain for the entirety of Saturday. It can't rain all day, surely? :(

  7. hey guys, does anyone know what time muse will be on stage at? i have to get the train from birmingham so i'm wondering if i'd have to stay overnight or if i'd be able to get the train back... :stunned:

They're on at 21:05 according to the official festival page, and they'll probably finish at 11ish at the latest.

  8. Ok, finished listening to it. Absolutely love it, there's not a single track I hate. I do admit, the second half is a bit weird, but I still really like it. Definitely their most coherent album since Absolution, in my opinion. Not exactly the return to form I was expecting, but Muse are definitely back on track!

    So, my ratings:

    Dead Inside 9/10

    Drill Sergeant + Psycho 9.5/10

    Mercy 8/10

    Reapers 10/10

    The Handler 10/10

    JFK + Defector 8/10

    Revolt 7/10

    Aftermath 9/10

    The Globalist + Drones 8.5/10

    And my album rankings:

    OoS > Abosultion > BH&R = Drones > TR > Showbiz > T2L

Also did a "live" reaction to the second half, and it's here for anyone interested:

[JFK] - Nice speech, oooh, the guitar in the background is cool, strings are lovely

Defector - Awww yeah, the riff! :D Oh god, Queen. Haha, this is actually quite brilliant! "SOCIETY!!!!" Ahahahah!!! XD Oh wow, that solo is great! Loving the distorted bass too.

Revolt - Cheesy, so very cheesy. It's actually quite lovely though, no idea why people are slamming it so much. "YOU CAN GROW!!!!" XD A bit generic, if anything. What year is it?

Aftermath - This start is quite atmospheric. Still, what year is it again? Oh, that guitar is beautiful. Ok, I love this song, it's so pretty. Not Muse sounding, but I like the fact they're using a newer sound (for them), it's fresh for Muse. Actually one of my favourites I think. Ending is slightly OTT, but it works. Why does it work?!

The Globalist - Oh, liking this start, very atmospheric (yes, I know it's a "cover".) Reminds me of an older Muse track. Not sure which one. This is sounding more like KoC II so far, but that's not a bad thing. Still reminding me of an old Muse song... not sure which one. Oh yeah, that riff, amazing! So heavy!!! Piano bit actually blends well in my opinion (and the riff was the perfect length.) Definitely more USoE than anything else. Ok, slightly Explorers, but still A LOT better than that. United States of Cydonia? XD

Drones - Ok, this is actually interesting. Should've been part of The Globalist. A bit of a weird ending, goes on slightly too long.

  9. Was sitting expectantly by my window waiting for the postman. Sadly he has just walked past my house. Monday it is for me then

Edit: He came back! Lol got my deluxe!

    Win! :D

I'm on The Handler now. It's unknown territory for me after this. I'm scared.

  10. Even before reading the above comments I've been blown away by some of the bass work this time around, it's immense and consistent. I imagine he's going to enjoy playing it live quite a bit.

Deluxe Album just turned up (Via Hermes ), seems to be intact. I know what I'm doing this morning.

Damn' it, mine still says "Courier Received", from 8:20 this morning. Arrrgh, I want it now! :(

  11. Just bought tickets for this yesterday. I'm picking them up at the box office on the day, but I just read about the dogtag RFID thing. Apparently the whole festival is cashless and you are supposed to load money onto this chip thing and use your ticket number to register in advance. I don't have my tickets obviously and won't until the day so I can't register this thing. Just wondering if anybody else has thought about this?

Really looking forward to it :D

If you're just doing the one day, then you can link your ticket to your RIFD tag via the app/website on your phone. There's various points at the festival where you can top up too. :)

  12. pre-ordered a couple different editions from the muse/warner webstore. got a shipment confirmation late wednesday night w/ tracking info. tracking info was updated along the way. was shipped via ground transport. arrived 9 a.m. this morning, so door to door shipment took less than 36 hours.

hopefully you and others get yours soon...

Cheers for the info, I hope so too. I'll check later tonight, see if there's anything...

  13. just received the deluxe edition in the mail.

from the outside, it really does look / feel no different from a 180g 2xLP item in terms of either size or weight.

Glad to hear you got yours!

Can I just ask, when did you get the order confirmation, and was the tracking for the order updated regularly on the courier site? Only, I got my confirmation from the Warner Store yesterday afternoon. My order is with Hermes, and the last update I got was at 1:14am this morning saying that it was at the "Hub Trailer Via Sorter". I've got the Deluxe Edition ordered too, along with the CD/DVD edition for my Dad.

I was really hoping to get it tomorrow, as the preparation for Download is going to be hectic, and I may not get a chance to listen to it much after. :/

  14. They said their indoor tour shows will be Drones concept-centric in a recent interview. Odds are they're just going to do it for the whole main tour that doesn't include festivals

Yeah, fair point actually, forgot about that. Should be interesting to experience though!

  15. All depends on what the the plan is after the initial world tour. They may plan an stadium tour again after the initial tour. I think they'll do the festival rounds again next year though. Got the album released at a perfect time.

True that. Considering the concept of the album, I wouldn't be surprised if they follow up with a stadium tour, to play it in full.

  16. Is it just me, or does it sound like this album cycle is going to be pretty short? From what they said during the Jo Whiley interview, after the UK/Europe tour next year, it sounds like they're done. :stunned: Plus, they've already pretty much released most the tracks on YouTube. It's a shame if it turns out that way. :(
