Yeah well i think it's likely that when muse tour next they'll play at least 18-20 songs per show. Another album and a different tour should result in longer shows and if they do then i'm sure they'll include a few rarities.
Nah.
Muse's sets have got progressively shorter, on average, at their arena tour/standard tour shows.
Showbiz - 12-15 songs p/n.
Origin Of Symmetry - 14-19 songs p/n.
Absolution - 16-20 songs p/n.
Black Holes & Revelations - 17-19 songs p/n.
The Resistance - 15-18 songs p/n.
Joke.
-
It's the length of the gigs, if anything, that's pissing me off.
If you take this as the 'standard' 15-song set:
Uprising
Map Of The Problematique
New Born
Supermassive Black Hole
Resistance
Hysteria
United States Of Eurasia
Feeling Good
Undisclosed Desires
Starlight
Time Is Running Out
Plug In Baby
-----
Exogenesis, Pt. 1: Overture
Stockholm Syndrome
Knights Of Cydonia
If the length was 19-21 songs, as it should be, you free up four slots for songs like Guiding Light, MK Ultra, I Belong To You, Neutron Star Collision, Take A Bow, Soldier's Poem, Apocalypse Please, Sing For Absolution, Butterflies & Hurricanes, Ruled By Secrecy, Bliss, Citizen Erased, Dead Star and Sunburn - songs Muse have shown they're still able/willing to play.
Muse are a five album, arena band; anything less than 18 songs is simply unacceptable and lazy. Truth. If they're simply not capable of touring to the extent they do without fucking over the fans on certain legs of the tour/at certain shows, tour less. Simple solution.
EDIT: Gawd, look at that set on its own - it looks absolutely pathetic on paper .
-
It definitely is.
-
Even more evidence for the awesomeness of the Absolution Tour setup.
-
I still dream of something like this again:
Citizen Erased
Apocalypse Please
Ruled By Secrecy
United States Of Eurasia
Sunburn
.
-
Simple fact of the matter; Muse have five albums, they charge £40-£50 for an arena gig, inc. fees. They should be playing a minimum of 20 songs, or 20 every night. This builds on the 17-19 song precedents set on the Absolution/BH&R tours.
End of.
Muse are lazy.
-
Why wasn't something like this possible then?
Uprising
Map Of The Problematique
Supermassive Black Hole
Resistance
Hysteria
New Born
MK Ultra
Citizen Erased
United States Of Eurasia
Ruled By Secrecy
Undisclosed Desires
Starlight
Bliss (Ext.)
Time Is Running Out
Plug In Baby
Unnatural Selection
-----
Exogenesis, Pt. 1: Overture
Stockholm Syndrome
Take A Bow
-----
Knights Of Cydonia
If that had been the standard/template for the arena tour, I don't think there would have been any beef at all.
-
I'll tell you what else is such a shame; Muse's refusal to give much stage timd to some of The Resistance's better cuts and by that I mean the whole second half of the album - even Unnatural Selection all but disappeared come the end !
-
Aye, the way they're playing at the moment is poop.
- Matt not playing the intro .
- Using a slow click-track .
- Lack of beefy guitar tone .
- Dull solos (Matt used to alternate tapping, alt. picking, etc, rather than just making random noises).
- Nasally, slurred vocals .
- No huge wailing scream to cap off the final chorus .
- Same outro riffs over and over again .
New Born done properly:
-
Don't worry, I'm sure Matt will have found his pedal in time for the Australian tour.
Ironically, it was in Australia he made that comment originally .
-
I think actually, it's the length of these gigs that's bugging me. Muse have five albums, they're renowned as the best live act on the planet, but they play 15 song arena gigs and 20 song stadium sets? I'm afraid flashing lights, pyros and UFOs don't make up for this.
-
They should just rotate the old songs more. Sunburn, New Born, Plug In Baby, Feeling Good, Time Is Running Out, Hysteria, etc, same old, same old every tour.
How about bringing back Muscle Museum, Bliss, Space Dementia, Apocalypse Please, The Small Print, Assassin, etc, instead of these songs?
-
Undisclosed Desires will go, I'm sure.
It wasn't a chart success, it jarrs horribly with the rest of Muse's set and it doesn't work live very well at all. I can't see it sticking around.
Guiding Light will go too, like Invincible did.
Uprising will most definitely stay as it's monsterous live, one of Muse's best numbers live. Not sure about Resistance, it's a bit middle-of-the-road. I can see United States Of Eurasia staying because like Uprising, it's beefy as a live track and keeps up the piano song quota. As much as I'd love to see Unnatural Selection and MK Ultra stick around, I doubt they will and if one does survive, it'll be Unnatural Selection, for sure.
I Belong To You was barely played on The Resistance tour, it's gone already I'd say.
Exogenesis is a tough one because Overture did work well as a stand-alone piece. I think it'll be shelved until they can do the whole piece justice live.
Order of likeliness in future:
Uprising
United States Of Eurasia
-----
Resistance
Unnatural Selection
-----
Exogenesis
-----
MK Ultra
-----
Undisclosed Desires
Guiding Light
I Belong To You

Would you say if they'd took more time on working on the song and recorded it properly, the song would've gotten better?
I mean the Muse version.
Nope, I really think it's a terrible song for a host of reasons; it sounds choppy/thrown together, even for a demo, the lyrics are painfully corny and it just sounds like a continuation of the path Muse have been veering towards in recent years (which is, frankly, not my cuppa).
They should just bin it, leave it on the shelf.
-
Neither.
It's just plain awful.

So... my "controversial" opinion is that we should just have a sub-forum for games so that the main section of the boards doesn't get "cluttered" and people can still actually have fun around here.
(Again, sorry I'm in on this so late... they just locked my favorite thread on the boards yesterday, so it's a recent loss for me )
We used to have a games section but at the end of the day, thread games are just spam really, and with limited board/server capacity, actual discussion in relevant areas takes precedent over what are, largely, pointless games.
S'not gonna change, I'm afraid. I much prefer not having loads of elimination threads, etc, cluttering each section of the board up and I'd also much prefer getting rid of them to prevent Doris from dying all the time.
-
I can't believe they played Cave the other night. I appreciate that they're playing songs from Showbiz, but why couldn't they have done something more people would have prefered, like Uno, or Muscle Museum?
Wow, generalisation much?
-
Playing to a click track these days really irritates me.
New Born in particular, it's so slow these days . Listen to the KROQ 2004 version, it's x100 more exciting, Earls Court 2004 as well.
-
Apocalypse Please is better than Stockholm Syndrome
Correct.
-
They're using Hysteria to advertise some shitty ITV2 programme about Vampires :'(.
-
Wankdorf is a really bad name.
Yay for linguistic ignorance .
Tit.
-
Reading And Leeds 2006 is better than Glasto 04.
No.
Just no.
-
I think maybe they are a spent force creatively, they simply have no more song ideas so they are just riding the wave of past glories doing jams in silly time signatures while wailing to critical acclaim.
Have you actually listened to any of their music post-1997?
.
Speculation on future gigs/tours

Matt lost his pedal, remember?
