  1. As for the drones, I'd say they're being used for spotlights/cameras. From that description, I'm guessing people will be getting a bit of a show or something special for their money, but will it be 73 quid's worth, that's the question? And what's the justification for providing it to Portugal for half the price?

Either way, I think I'd rather just pay half the price and see the band without any flashy bells or whistles. Bit like the Electric Ballroom show last week, in fact :awesome:

  2. I'm beginning to believe the reasoning behind packaging the album with the tickets is that they are going to play the whole album live and they want people to be as familiar as possible with it maybe

Nah, it's more likely because nobody buys albums any more, and it's literally the only way they can get people to listen to it!

  3. Yeah, so I did a comparison of prices across Europe:

    i1cn7t.jpg

Venue costs may be lower in Europe, but there is next to no justification for that massive difference in price.

Doing another comparison on the London O2, for standing/floor seating tickets at upcoming events there...

    Imagine Dragons: £35 (standing)

    Simple Minds: £55

    Deep Purple: £45

    Duran Duran: £55

    Mumford & Sons: £38.50 (standing)

    Stereophonics: £39.50 (standing)

    All Time Low: £29.50 (standing)

Even One Direction, who have a long history of ripping off their fans, were selling floor seated tickets for £65.

I know a lot of people who've been priced out of London/Manchester/Glasgow tickets, who would have been able to afford to go if the prices had been in the 'normal' range for standing arena gigs - £30-40.

    Uncool, Muse. Very, very uncool.

  4. and the girl needs to learn to mix in her screaming with some singing or at least vary the intensity of it a bit. Even Cobain didn't scream all the time, and Dave Grohl is a master of the judiciously placed scream.

Oh, I'll take an issue with that - I very, VERY much disagree. No-one needs to 'learn' to mix in their screaming with some singing (tell that to a black metal band). That's simply her vocal style. You can't really say 'uhhhh, if you sung a bit more your songs would sound a lot prettier and more people would like them'... it doesn't really work with those guys.

Personally I love the raw sound to her voice - adore it in fact - and she does sing in a purer way in the choruses, so you can't really accuse her of screaming the whole way through. Unfortunately if you're not a fan of her vocal style, you're probably not destined to be a fan of the band. *shrug*

  5. Marmozets were fucking awesome as per usual. Sound was a bit wank though, Becca's mic was so quiet at times. Heard it was alright for people at the side though.

Huh, odd! Yeah, it was alright where we were at the side... vocals came through loud and clear.

  6. Also, what on earth is with the Marmozets hate? I thought they were phenomenal, and also didn't find any issue with the acoustics (we were stood house left, 10 or so rows from the front). One of the most exciting live bands I've seen for a while and I absolutely love their sound. I thought it was an awesome bonus to have a support band I actually liked

  7. Uprising was most strangely dead song I thought. Almost no reaction at all, which was odd.

Glad I chose that song for a bathroom break, then. What I liked the most was that I was able to go from the pit to the loo to the bar and back to the pit within the space of one song. 'mazing. I've missed that at Muse gigs.

Actually, I've missed the pit full stop. All I've seemed to do at recent Muse gigs is get pissed off at people for not getting involved during the more upbeat songs, but last night was exemplary. And there were even crowdsurfers! Muse crowds: all is forgiven. I'm a bruised, happy mess

  8. So, I blasted an entire Bucket List bullet-point out of the window. Got published AND paid for it. Everything I've been aiming for since I first started shooting gigs 10 years ago.

They're not the very best photos I've ever taken, and getting published by said magazine was a bit of a fluke. I'm the in-house photographer for a gig venue who managed to ensnare a local band for an exclusive gig in support of Independent Venue Week.

That local band just happened to be You Me At Six, who are joint-headlining the O2 Arena in two weeks time. I was the only photographer in the venue.

It was horrible, with a horrible crowd, in a 300-capacity venue with no space in between barrier and stage, but I loved every moment.

Mini-set is here, and the full set is on my Flickr account here.

  9. Download organiser Andy Copping has claimed on Twitter that Muse at Download is a UK festival exclusive, which all but rules out Glastonbury I'm afraid.

I'm with him. I reckon they're a UK exclusive. Especially considering the fact that they're doing a very different festival from their usual thing... yeah. I'd put money on the exclusivity. Glastonbury tends to rotate its headliners quite infrequently, whereas Download and other rock festivals do it a little more often. So yeah, if anyone wants to make a bet, I'd put money on Dowload being Muse's only UK festival appearance next summer!

  10. Zero. It's the Download way.

    Thing is, it's not really.

In 6 years of attending Download, I've never seen anyone bottle anyone. That might just be my decent taste in bands to watch, but I still doubt it would go that far. The people who aren't interested in seeing Muse just won't go watch them rather than bother to go along and toss a bottle at them, and that's fine - all the more space for me!

  11. Also, people are griping about Slipknot (which is not a good omen for the Muse announcement!) because they headlined in 2013 and 2009, but they've got a seriously rotating setlist going on, as well as a new stage show for the first time in 9 years, so I think it's a good call.

Besides, there's a really small pool of heavier bands available who are big enough to headline a festival like Download, so bands are bound to come up every few years. It's probably why they've booked Muse, as well - the organisers are having to branch out a little because they're running out of bands!

  12. God I can't believe I'm in here. I swear this is the first time I've posted in Main Muse for about 6 years

Personally I'm hoping they'll be announced for Download as I'm there pretty much every year and I'm in the fairly small subsection of metal fans who also like Muse. But I think if they do get announced people will kick OFF. Hardcore Download-goers won't be pleased, but I'm sure they'll be a popular booking and will draw in a lot of ticket sales. And they'll fit in well with the Slipknot / KISS combo as well.

Do I think they'll be smart enough to actually play a heavier set? Nahhhhh

  13. Yo, 'Board. Yo, 'tographers. It's been a while since I was last here. Like, a year or so? Eek.

Here's what I've been up to over the last few months....
